The Last Classic for a Classic Colt
~Ryan~
"The field for the 2030 Breeders' Cup Classic is beginning the walkover to the track. In post 1 is Unagi. In post 2 is Wavebreaker. In post 3 is Chandeler. In post 4 is Share The Ride, a full brother to Shared Belief.
In post 5 is Highflying. In post 6 is Mission Impossible. In post 7 is the filly Just A Thought. In post 8 is this year's Kentucky Derby winner Cee Cee Dee. In post 9 is New Year At Sea. In post 10 is Fiery Halo. In post 11 is Headfirst. In post 12 is Dreaming of Fire. In post 13 is The Real Deal. In post 14 is Shadow Skirter. In post 15 is Outreach. In post 16 is Streets of Rome. In post 17 is this year's Preakness winner Sense of Direction. In post 18 is this year's Belmont winner Wardaddy.
In post 19 is last year's Preakness winner Livingonaprayer.
In post 20 is Triple Crown winner Repossess. And that's the field for the Classic!"
Repo looked really good, but I was still nervous. He was 2 years older than the oldest horses in this field, and there were a lot of 3 and 4 years old who were at their peaks. I began to doubt whether he could beat them all. As soon as Repo had steppes into the track, even before they said his name, my dad gasped and pointed.
"That's our old horse! It has to be!"
"I know, dad, it is Repossess. I bought him a couple months ago."
"And you didn't tell me!"
"I wanted it to be a surprise. I told you if find him again."
Our emeotional moment ended there, though, because the horses were being loaded into the gate.

I knew that this was going to be the hardest race to win that I had ever run in. If I wanted to win, I had to stay near the leaders, but not be too tired at the end. My only worry was that there were a LOT of horses in this race, the same number as there had been in my Kentucky Derby all those years ago. This was it.
"And they're off!"
~Ryan~
Repossess powered to the early lead while cutting in from the outside. He quickly gave it up, which worried me. I knew from watching his past races on YouTube that he never gave up the lead once he had it.
"The early lead goes to Sense of Direction. Share the Ride is lapped right on him, along with The Real Deal. Then it's Mission Impossible, Cee Cee Dee, and the filly Wavebreaker 2 lengths off the lead, followed by Fiery Halo, the filly Just A Thought, and Outreach. The next pack is 3 lengths off them. Unagi, Dreaming of Fire, and New Year at Sea are traveling together. Starting down the backstretch, Sense of Direction and The Real Deal are dueling for the lead with Share The Ride third. Repossess is way back there battling Wardaddy and Highflying. Streets of Rome and Livingonaprayer are dueling it out for last. They're about 22 lengths off the leaders. Headfirst and Chandeler are now running with Warddady, Highflying, and Repossess...is moving up between horses! Repossess has blown past New Year at Sea, and is now searching past Wavebreaker and Mission Inpossible! Wardaddy, Chandeler, and Headfirst are moving up as a pack. As they enter the final turn, Repossess reaches Share the Ride!..."
Repossess was gaining ground, but losing it nearly as fast. He looked abnormally tired to me. As they turned for home, he wasn't passing Share The Ride. I hoped he could at least beat Share the Ride, as I really didn't want to get beat by a brother to Shared Belief.
"Repossess stuck in third as they turn for home. SENSE OF DIRECTION has the lead! Wardaddy is flying up there with Cee Cee Dee! Chandeler has reached Repossess...and there he goes! Repossess gunning down the 6 horses in front of him! Repossess has caught Sense of Direction! They're battling neck and neck...and here comes Cee Cee Dee!..."
Repo wasn't going to get there, I knew it. He was being squeezed on both sides. Cee Cee Dee was too much for him.
"Sense of Direction is giving way to the pressure! Cee Cee Dee is overtaking Repossess, and Wardaddy is coming up on the rail. Repossess is stuck between those 2! Repossess responding to the whip with a final burst as they come to the wire...
