Extended Family Contingency: Hoodlum
Here's the next chapter, enjoy.
Out in the streets, when the signal went out, a young man a few years older than Dick Grayson, he had fair skin, blue eyes, and shoulder-length black hair which is well-groomed and tied back in a low bun at the base of his neck. His facial expression is often one of stoic fatigue. He wears a red and white hoodie over a white shirt, blue jeans, and blue shoes. Suddenly his phone rang, he took it out, and he saw a message from an unknown sender. The message had a simple "Welcome to the Family, [Leon Jenkins]." followed by a string of coordinates. He nodded solemnly, knowing the time had come. Leon began walking down the street, before spotted a bunch of thugs from Bane's group pushing a family into an alley. Leon followed after them, pulling up his hood and face mask.
Meanwhile, back at the Batcave, Tim finally got through Bruce's many firewalls and code barriers to get into the deeper files of the Extended Family members.
Tim: Yes! I'm in! Let's see who's apart of this 'Extended Family' plan.
The Bat-Computer's screens flickered rapidly as Tim and Barbara sifted through the encrypted data, revealing the identities of the Extended Family members. Each face that appeared on the screen was a surprise to the Bat-Family. The first name that came up was, [Leon Jenkins]. As Tim opened his file, the Bat-Computer narrated as we switched back to Leon following the family and thugs.
Thug 1: Alright, buddy, empty your pockets and I won't have to-
Leon suddenly grabs the thug and slugs him in the face. As the other two charged at the young man, one bashed him over the head with a pipe, only for the vibrations from the hit to cause the man to let go because of the pain. Meanwhile Leon seemed unfazed by the hit. The other thug had his arm caught in a vice-like grip trying to choke the young man, but Leon grabbed the man's forearm, and with a grunt and a sickening crunch, the thug's arm snapped and exploded with blood. The thug screamed out in pain, falling to the ground. The family, terrified, took this moment to run away as fast as they could, leaving Leon with the three downed thugs. Leon simply called the police to the location and left the thugs for them to find.
Batman: (Narrating) Leon Jenkins. Age 27. Batman's Log; Leon Jenkins was a boy whom I found being forced to work at illegal child labor sites in Old Gotham. After putting a stop to it, the boy I found kept working even when I told him to stop, by the time police had arrived, the boy finished his job, took the money he was owed and left. This continued as I brought down more sites. The boy had no parents, or at least adults willing to act like parents, he worked illegally to provide for his little brother, Matthew Jenkins. Leon held no vendettas or grudges, he just kept moving forward. As he grew old enough to have a real job, he worked at Wayne Industries as a carter, carrying packages where they needed to go. Lucius stated that Leon's body was strange, as he'd never use equipment provided, opting to carry or drag crates that even I wouldn't try to pick them up around like they were nothing, Leon wouldn't even take breaks and even work overtime.
Leon walked along the street, his stature slumped and slanted, he bumped into a pole and bent it like a plastic straw.
Batman: (Narrating) Then I discovered something during a physical exam that was part of the job. His muscle fibers, bone structure, and bone density were human, yet not human at the same time. It was like Leon forced his body to work endlessly even when his muscles were exhausted and his bones were on the verge of collapse, yet they somehow meticulously and miraculously healed and reformed into something human, yet not human. But that's not what amazed me.
Leon dragged his hand against a wall, his finger tips carving away the brick like it was a sand castle.
Batman: (Narrating) I discovered that Leon broke one of his body's Limiter, four body pieces that are both organ and muscle, which prevents humans from reaching their full potential to avoid self-destructive overuse. Leon had broken through one of them through his excessive training and that's what allowed his muscles and bones to become the way they are. His muscle fibers are now twice as dense and tough as steel wires and can contract at speeds comparable to that of a bullet. His bones are as hard as diamond, tougher than tungsten, yet as light as graphite. He's essentially and unintentionally turned himself into a human weapon. Without Any mutant genes or cybernetic enhancement, I've looked into breaking one of my own Limiters but it seems to be highly inadvisable. My studies into the four limiters of the body has also hinted toward Leon... Being close to breaking his second limiter, but something's in the way.
Leon ripped a chunk of the wall out like he was breaking a cookie, crumbling it like a sand..
Batman: (Narrating) But... Due to an incident, Leon was incarcerated for 5 years until he was released for good behavior. I won't speak the full details of it, but... Leon popped a man's head like a grape in a fit of uncontrollable rage, that was warranted. Until the activation of the plan, Extended Family, Leon remains a homeless young man on the streets of Gotham, waiting for the call. Upon activation, Leon will go under the name, Hoodlum.
Back at the Batcave, the Bat-Family were more or less stunned by the revelation of Leon's abilities. They had known Bruce to be thorough, but the extent of his preparations was something else entirely.
Dick: That's... intense. So, he's like... Superhuman strength, but all natural?
Jason: Very few times does Bruce say something was warranted, wonder what caused this Leon guy to go nuts? Must've been bad.
Barbra: We'll have to dig into his records to find out. But for now, we need to focus on the bigger picture. Tim, keep searching for intel on the other members.
As the Bat-Family continued to dig into records, back with Leon, going by the name Hoodlum, he was following a trail of different signs of something being moved by cartel members. The signs pointed to Gotham's underground railway, Hoodlum saw Bane's men working on carefully carting something in a box, along with a female scientist being held at gun point. Hoodlum followed the men down into the underground railway.
Bane Goon: Alright, Dr. Young, keep it moving and I won't put a bullet in your spine.
Dr. Penelope "Penny" Young looked up at the towering figure of Bane's goon, her eyes filled with fear.
Dr. Young: I'm moving, I'm moving.
Hoodlum silently followed the goons down into the dimly lit tunnels, he didn't even sneak or anything, he just walked. His eyes narrowed as he recognized Dr. Young, a scientist made infamous by her involvement in creating the Titan serum using Venom that was drained from Bane's body against his will.
As the goons turned a corner, Hoodlum followed calmly as he peered around the corner, seeing Bane, or at least someone who dressed like him, the hulking Venom addict supervillain was now just scrawny shell of his former self, the usage of Titan having deflated his body and skin left more wrinkled then an old man's. Bane held Dr. Young's head up to look at him.
Bane: Doctor, how have you been? It's been a long time since the Arkham Asylum days. Do you recall those days? When you drained my veins of Venom, and Joker pumped my body full of your little science project? Titan.
Bane motioned toward his body, how shriveled and frail it had become. His voice, once a powerful roar, was now a gravelly whisper.
Dr. Young: I was tricked by Joker, Bane, I didn't think he'd-
The click of a gun silenced Dr. Young.
Bane: Do not worry Doctor, I am no longer mad about that. I've grown past it, because I've discovered something because of your experiments on me.
Bane motions his goons to open the crate, where syringe guns and vials of an orange-yellow substance were inside. It was neither Venom nor the Titan formula.
Bane: Venom could be altered, my whole life I've never even thought to alter the Venom formula in any way. So, I did what you did, I gathered every drop of Titan and every known piece of Venom in the world, and formed this...
The once bulking super-villain took a syringe gun along with one of the vials of the unknown substance, before loading it into the gun.
Bane: Hercules.
Bane then injected himself with this new substance, Hercules, his vines glowed orange-yellow, as his muscle mass doubled, then tripled. He grew larger and bulkier then he did with either the Venom or Titan Drugs.
Bane: Aaahhh... Pfeeeewww... As you can see, the results speak for themselves Doctor.
Dr. Young's eyes went wide, Bane, even though he was back in his bulking form and even bigger than before, was speaking fluent sentences, when normally, Bane loses his mind when in any form of Venom.
Bane: The new Hercules drug grants me all the strength of the Titan with none of the side effects that came with the Venom. And the best part? I never need more!
Bane: And now, Gotham will tremble once more under my rule. But I'm missing a key component to make more Hercules. I need more Titan, and that's where you come in, Doctor.
Suddenly, a cracking sound caught everyone's attention, Hoodlum was simply stepping out while cracking his knuckles and neck. His calmness was unnerving, almost eerie, as he faced the now-enhanced Bane and his goons. Dr. Young's eyes widened in surprise, hope flickering in them as she recognized the figure.
Bane: I didn't think there were any brave faces other then Batman and his wards. Men! Keep him busy! This way Doctor.
Bane grabbed Dr. Young with his massive hands and the crate of Hercules, and with surprising agility for his size, dashed down the tracks of the Gotham underground railway, loading the crate into a underground railway train. Hoodlum took off after them, his footsteps echoing loudly in the damp tunnel. Bane's goons quickly stepped in his way, armed with knives and guns, two bullets rip through the air and hit Hoodlum, but they bounced off his arms bouncing away like they were rubber balls. The goons were caught off guard by this, but Hoodlum was unfazed.
The goons charged, some still trying to shoot him with their weapons, while others pulled out knives and batons. Hoodlum's eyes never left the retreating Bane and Dr. Young as he took them on with methodical precision. Each bullet that hit him simply flattened against his skin, not even leaving a bruise. He disarmed the first goon with a swift grab of his wrist, twisting it until the bone snapped like a twig and the gun clattered to the ground. The next goon swung his baton wildly, but Hoodlum caught it in his palm, crushing it into a U-shape.
Another goon charged with his knife stabbing through his hoodie, but the blade bent against Hoodlum's body like tinfoil. The goon's shock was brief before Hoodlum's elbow met his face, sending him flying into the side of the tunnel with a crunch. His fists collided with the remaining goons' faces, their skulls cracking like eggshells under his inhuman strength. The air was thick with the smell of fear and sweat as the criminals realized they were outmatched. Yet, Hoodlum felt no anger, no thrill of battle, just a cold determination to protect Gotham and retrieve Dr. Young. Bane smiled as he watched this, a few goons tying down Dr. Young and securing the crate of Hercules.
Bane: It's so refreshing to see someone like you. A stone cold face of justice, no sign of rage or will of vengeance like Batman. I can respect that.
Bane then looked at one of his goons on the train, while Hoodlum tossed aside another good like a broken mannequin.
Bane: Oye, tú estás ahí con una sudadera con capucha, ven aquí.
The goon understood Bane's Spanish words and stepped forward, Bane then took another vial of Hercules and injected the goon, his muscles bulging and veins popping as he grew to be almost as big as Bane. The goon's eyes turned from a dull brown to an orange-yellow.
Herculean Goon: RRAAHHH!! GRACIAS MI AMIGO!!!
Bane: Y gracias, ahora lucha contra este joven fuerte y permítenos escapar.
Herculean Goon: Sí, señor.
The Herculean Goon stepped down from the train as it began to move, he stared down Hoodlum, who simply stared back.
Herculean Goon: You will go no further-
Without a word, Hoodlum kicks a chunk of the railway's concrete ground into the Herculean Goon's face, sending him stumbling back. The goon wipes the dust away, his grin twisted with the thrill of the fight ahead. Meanwhile, the train speeds away, Bane's laughter echoes through the tunnel as he takes Dr. Young with him.
Hoodlum and the Herculean Goon charged at each other and their fists connected, their strength seemingly equal as the underground tunnel cracks around them from the force of their impact. The sound of bone on bone was deafening as they exchanged blows, each trying to outpower the other. The Goon, fueled by the Hercules serum, threw punches that could easily level buildings, but Hoodlum's own inhuman yet natural strength met each blow with a wall of resistance that didn't waver.
The ground above shook like a level 7 earthquake as the two continued to connect punches, the two inhumanly strong fighters matched each other in strength, weight, and toughness of their arms. Hoodlum connected fists with the Herculean Goon, who pulled back to reel back for another punch, but suddenly, three more punches hit him dead in the chest, before he could throw another punch and connecting with Hoodlum again like before.
Herculean Goon: (thinking) Maldición, este mocoso se está volviendo aún más rápido!!
When the goon's fist reels back so he could throw another punch, Hoodlum hits him three times in the chest again. The goon, winded from the six blows he endured, failed to match Hoodlum in strength as he was pushed back and the hooded hero landed several more blows. Hoodlum kept speeding up via rotating his shoulder blade with each punch, like the pistons of a car, his fists becoming a blur as he pummeled the Herculean Goon. The goon tried to counter punch but Hoodlum's punch connected to his face first, and the blows kept raining down on him like a barrage of sledgehammers.
The Herculean Goon stumbled back, his face a pulpy mess, his teeth scattered across the ground. Yet, he kept standing, the serum granting him an incredible tolerance to pain and damage, but it was clear his speed was no match for Hoodlum's acceleration. Hoodlum didn't stop, his fists moving at a speed that defied human capability. Each punch was thrown with the precision of a metronome, never missing it's mark. The goon's body was absorbing the punishment, but his eyes were growing dimmer with each hit.
One blow knocked the goon into the wall, but the blow's didn't stop coming, they kept raining down on his nose and jaw, breaking bones with every hit, blood spurted out of his mouth like a geyser and painted the walls with a crimson mist. Hoodlum's punches grew faster and faster, his arms a blur as he pummeled the Herculean Goon into a pulp. The goon's body was now taking more damage than it could possibly withstand, his ribs snapped like twigs, his eyes were swollen shut, and his nose was flat against his face. However, he remained standing even though he lost consciousness, which was either a testament to the drug or him.
Hoodlum, rolled his shoulders as he looked down the tunnel, Bane's train no longer in view, he sighed solemnly before he could hear police sirens, something he didn't want to deal with. He had to get out before they came down here, he had to get to Dr. Young before Bane did something to her. But he had no clue where they even were, so he took out his phone and resumed following the coordinates that were sent to him earlier by the Bat-Computer. He stepped outside and the police were outside, Hoodlum could see the family talking to them, then the father of the family spotted Hoodlum, the mother hid her kids from his view.
Father: That's him officer, the one who popped that criminal arm like a balloon!
The officer immediately drew his gun, as did the others, all aimed at Hoodlum, but he didn't react, didn't even make a noise. The father was now shaking, his voice trembling.
Officer: Hands where I can see them! Get down on the ground, now!
Hoodlum ignored the officer's orders and looked at his phone, reading the coordinates he received. A bullet ripped through the air as it hit Hoodlum, doing nothing but making his arm flinch as it bounced off his body. The father screamed in terror, dropping to the floor covering his family with his body, as the police officers opened fire on the hooded hero, but he just covered his phone with his hand as bullets ricocheted off him.
Officer: Cease Fire! Cease Fire!
The officer announces as the bullets started ricocheting back at them from Hoodlum's unflinching form. They had never encountered someone so impervious to their firepower. The hooded hero continued down the alleyway, disappearing in the darkness of the night.
