They Applaud

They applaud,
and I stand there.
Frozen.
Shocked.

They applaud,
and I abide.
Dumbfounded.
Astounded.

They applaud,
and I realize.
I take off.
I run.

They applaud,
and I cry.
A tear falls off
my eye.

They applaud,
and I start to sob.
My head commences
to throb.

They applaud,
and I tell myself.
I'm broken.
Distraught.

They applaud,
but I don't feel the
least bit awed.

This poem is inspired by a scene in my book "Insincere Veneer". If you have time, do read it, if you please. Thank you for your dedication to this book! It means the world to me, it really does. xx
