Death

i met death today;
it came in the form of
nothing:
no future,
no past,
no present—
nothing:
no name,
no face,
no foul-smelling breath—
nothing
but death,
quiet, eerie
death.
It came to me in my sleep—
sudden,
unexpected;
the way death always comes
and always is:
a storm on a warm
sunny day;
a pair of loving hands
that crush your heart to
pieces:
death.
It tugged at my soul—
then pulled,
till I sank into a
place
that caused my heart to
race,
and my mind to lose control;
eyes squeezed shut,
yet death forced me to see:
a life where every tomorrow
is the past,
and the present is a nightmare
you can’t wake up from.
Death held me in this state till
my heartbeat turned to shrills,
then. . .
peace,
light—
everything:
life—
a future i could see:
bright enough to light the depths
of the deepest,
darkest
sea.
i saw a present worth waking for;
the past a place of no return,
but one you can appreciate
for from it you have learned.
Death,
in the end,
showed me the light;
the beauty of
every
living moment...
moments too precious to
waste.
