33. Memories Unforgotten
Hi,
I am back after a long time. I don't know where my stories are going. I might as well update this book.
Here's something I happened to write. I was reading a book in my room when I heard an interlude on TV. The tune was stuck in my head the whole day but I couldn't remember the lyrics or which song it was. That was my prompt to write this piece.
I am not sure how to categorise it. It started as a normal thought I share in this book. Soon it turned into a poem. If you indeed classify this as a poem, it's my first.
Please let me know your reactions in the comments.
That rhythmic call.
It is close to the heart,
but the mind works faster
to recall the place it belongs.
The words that accompany it
are suddenly out of the memory.
Till the moment before,
they were at the tip of my tongue.
A word with another enough
to connect with the tune.
The tune that pulls my heart
though I forgot those words.
Is that you saying them?
Or was I going to
speak them to you?
It doesn't matter.
Then why does my heart beat faster
like you are miles away from me?
Then why I feel warmth
of being enclosed in your arms?
That voice is not yours; I know.
Those words are not yours; I know.
Yet the lost melody
brings me closer to you.
Yet the lost melody
pulls your face in my memory.
Now I remember
and it hurts.
The reality of being away
from you is too painful.
The sweet words are but made of letters,
unlike that time when you whispered with love.
The tune pulls the heart strings,
too tight for me to breathe.
When this song plays,
I still think of you.
When this song plays,
you think of a new face.
