Chapter 5

No one entered the contest to create your own gem in the story, so unfortunately there is no winner. I would like to say that the contest is NOW CLOSED, so sorry if you were planning to enter after the submission date. And now, without further delay, chapter 5 of Exposing Reality!

As the Tall Blue gem got to work, I started to think back on my own life. Why was I strapped to a table in the first place? And where even was this place? I had to think about it from a mental standpoint, I decided. Start over from the beginning of the few things I did know, and work my way up from there. So what did I know? The Tall Blue gem called me Rose, so that must be my name, I decided. I knew that I had a gem on my belly, but I didn't know what it did yet. And the Blue gem hated me.

"Aghhhh! Come on, think!" I said to myself. That may have been a mistake. The Tall Blue gem whipped their head around to face me, it's horns glistening in the bright, sterile light of the room.

"Perhaps I didn't give her the correct dosage of medicine..." She pondered for a second. What did she mean by give? Now I was really confused.

"No matter, at least it's still quiet." She shrugged it off and returned to her work. Before I had time to ponder what that meant, she strode over to my side and placed a few things on a wheeling table beside her. She snapped her fingers and a bright light was suddenly shined directly in my face, blinding me temporarily. I looked down at my chest the best I could, in an attempt to avert my eyes from the light. Only then did I realise that i had slight burn marks along my torso and arms, almost in a zigzag like pattern. What was going on? Before I had time to think about it, my head was forced back down to the table. At first I thought that it was because of sheer exhaustion, but looking up I realized that it was a hand that forced me down. Not any hand however, but a cream colored one. And then, like a soda bottle that had just been shaken up and the cap released, the cap was released in this room.

"Holly! You are under STRICT," I flinched as she started yelling, "ORDERS NOT TO HURT ANY PRISONERS. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR. ONE MORE INSTANCE LIKE THIS AND I WILL HAVE YOU DEMOTED!"

"X5, I was only trying to help our investigation! The information I could have gotten from her would have helped the entirety of the Diamond Court! The filthy homeworld traitors could finally be eradicated, and Pink Diamonds reign could live on in our memory, and then-"

"And then what Holly Blue?" Holly. That was her name. Holly. It seemed to ring a bell somewhere deep inside my mind, but I couldn't put a finger on it. I continued to listen to the heated conversation, hoping that I would start regaining some memory as to who I was, and why I was here.

"And then I-" Holly was cut off again by the furious gem.

"You? YOU? It's always about you Holly! Your glory, your honor! And then you get promoted? Not on my watch you won't! As long as you work at this Zoo, I am your superior, and the one thing I hate most is gems disrespecting Diamond Law!" Holly looked defeated when she said this.

"Y-yes X5." Holly moaned, doing some kind of solute on her chest before standing up straighter, awaiting orders from the cream colored gem.

"Now, I want this place cleaned up, and the specimen out of that," She paused, looking at me and sighing, before straightening back up and facing Holly. Was that, compassion, I saw in her eyes? "Thing, and able to move around. From now on, it is under MY care Holly, and mine only. Do NOT disobey me again."

"Yes, right away X5." Holly then started to move around the room, putting away her tools with loud crashes and bangs, until she finally came to my side.

"I'll be back for you Rose, and when i'm through with you, there won't BE an Earth to go save." And with those chilling words, she released me from the metal bars and let me stand up. I was still a bit wobbly and discombobulated from the whole experience, so my first few steps were unsteady and unsure. The cream colored gem took my hand.

"Back to the Kindergarten Holly. Don't make me report you to the Diamond's." Holly registered what she said, did a hasty salute of sorts on her chest, and practically ran down the hallway, with purple gems snickering at her all the way.

"What are you laughing at? Get back to work!" Holly screamed at them.

The cream colored gem turned to look at me. Her soldier eyes melted into compassion, and she picked me up into her arms. I started to feel really fatigued, and slumped into her arms, to tired to care where we were going.

"Rose, what were you thinking?" The gem sighed, walking out of the room. What was I thinking, what did I do?

We walked through a multitude of hallways, stopping occasionally so the gem could re-adjust her grip on my body, before continuing on again. After what felt like 30 minutes of walking, we finally came to a stop at a set of double doors. The cream colored gem took a breath, and stepped in the room.

"Woah..." I stated. Inside the room were objects I had never seen before, technological advancements that are so beyond what is on Earth. The room was quite big in size, with multiple rooms varying off of it. The only odd thing about it, is that most of the objects in the room, where pink for some reason? While I wondered why everything was so pink, the tall gem carried me over to a chair, sat me down, and went over to a table where she prepared a syringe. I started to panic.

"Oh, please no, please I don't want to forget again!" The information that I had gathered from her and Holly's conversation was too important to lose now! "Please, please don't make me forget." I was begging now.

"So that's what Holly did to you. Don't worry little one, this isn't for you." She simply stated, walking over to a small plant and administering the needle. The plant started, whirring? Looking closer, I realised it was a mechanical plant, made up of gears, springs, and coils. The gem looked over at me, smiling out of amusement before stating,

"They don't allow us to have organic life outside the zoo, but this little guy does the same job as any other plant, producing oxygen all the same. This way, no one will know that I need oxygen in here now, since no one knows I have this baby anyway." She smiled, patting the mechanical plant.

"T-thanks for not using the needle on me." I squeaked, not knowing what else to say in the moment.

"You're quite welcome. I'm not as ruthless as Holly." She paused, seemed to consider something, and spoke, "Say, how did you figure out that she erased your memory with a drug?" The gem pressed for information.

How did I know that? Everything else was still a blur to me. "I-I don't know." I responded, questioning how I knew as well.

"Well, my only conclusion is that your memory is coming back. This is good news, since I don't know what Holly used on you to make you forget in the first place, so I can't exactly make an antidote at the moment for you, but I have my ideas." She winked and walked over to an intercom of sorts and began to press some buttons on the console.

"A-are you going to take me somewhere else?" I meekly asked. I didn't want her to, so far she was the only nice person I had met since talking to Holly and loosing my memory, which apparently, is what happened to me.

"No, i'm just making some arrangements for you. With Holly on the loose, well, let's just say she's a loose cannon sometimes." She paused and smiled at me, "Which is why you'll have to stay here, in my laboratory. Luckily, most gems will just think that i'm doing experiments on you, which is great for our cover. The only thing we have to do now, is sell the idea." She turned to the intercom and spoke-

"SG7? Yes, its me X5. I've decided to take over the study of the organic life form found in the Assimilation bay 2 days ago. I will be needing some supplies, get them to me right away. As your superior, I allow you to take time off of your normal routine to do this for me. I will send you a list of the items. Holly Blue does not need to know of this transaction. Yes, very good." And with that she hung up the call.

"I hate calling myself that." She sighed and slumped into a chair.

"Calling yourself what?" I decided to ask. If I was going to stay with her, then I needed some answers.

"Superior. Every gem here should be equal. Pink believed in that, when she was still around."

"Who's Pink? And why is everything in this room that color? And earlier, you sighed at me like I had done something wrong?" I was on a question asking rampage now, and I wasn't going to stop until I got some answers.

"Oh sweetie, I forgot that you don't have your memory right now. Guess i've got some explaining to do huh?" I nodded and she continued. "Pink Diamond was 1 of the 4 Diamonds in the Diamond Authority. Their basicly the leaders of this place." She paused, considered what to say, and continued. "Everything in this room is that color because before she disappeared, I was loyal to her. She was the kindest person I knew. Well, not until I met someone kinder." She smiled and continued on. "And sweetie, your name isn't Rose. It's Steven. Rose was your mother's name."

I was stunned at this new information. All I could do was stare at her, willing her to go on.

"And I should know, because I was your mother's sole adviser."
