chapter nine

"I'm going to a bar with Caspian," I told Levi, who was laying upside down off of the couch, his head almost touching the floor.

"You are?" He asked, his eyes moving towards the carpet to see me better.

"I am. I guess he wants to get to know me more since I'm friends with Liv and all now."

I sat down criss cross in front of Levi's head, studying his upside down face.

"Cool, I'll be home tonight to watch everyone. My girlfriend is coming to spend the night,"
Levi sprung upwards in one movement, leaning back against the couch cushions as the blood rushed back from his head, giving his face a red tint.

"I feel so guilty, I'm not here enough," I looked around at the house, focusing on toys and papers cluttered around in various spots. I knew, however, that wasn't all my fault.

"It's fine, not really your job to be our guardian anyway," Levi rolled his eyes, which he normally does when speaking about Missy.

I just shrugged and looked aimlessly around.

"Crap," I blurted out, remembering I had a job—for money.

I sprung up from the floor and darted into the kitchen, searching the table and counters for a cell phone. I finally found it under some paper plates. I dialed Jose's number and he picked up immediately.

"Fired," He spoke in a heavy accent, hanging up almost within the same second. It's like he was waiting for me to call just so he could do that.

"Fuck, what do I do now?" I collapsed against the counter, my hands swiftly gliding through my hair. This was definitely not my intentions and definitely not what I wanted to happen.

Levi stood at the doorway, looking at me with a small frown of disapproval. He knew exactly what had just happened.

"I'm not mad, I just wish money grew on trees," he said with false hope and a small chuckle.

Upstairs, I fumbled around in my room, looking for a nice shirt to wear out. Most of my clothes were wrinkly and stained. I finally pulled a nice striped v-neck from my closet, slipping it on with my black jeans. I ruffled my hair with my fingers, making sure it looked decent. This bar shouldn't be anything fancy, but I still wanted to look good.

"See you later, Levi," I jumped down the steps, loudly landing in the kitchen. I was lucky I didn't break any bones coming down those narrow steps. Levi acknowledged my departure with a small wave and nod.

It was cold and dark outside, car horns and wind filling my ears from the distance. I walked around to the front of my house, sitting on the same step as this morning. I waited for a while, but heard footsteps finally.

"Hey you," Caspian nodded in my direction as he walked up to my steps from the sidewalk, "ready?"

He threw his cigarette into the lawn. For the first time, he didn't look like he just came out of a homeless shelter. He still wore a black shirt and jeans, but I don't think he owns any other color of clothing.

"I didn't think you would come," I teasingly said, walking out onto the sidewalk where he was now standing.

He didn't answer me, but instead started walking faster and faster.

"Follow me," he said sharply, quickly making a turn into an alley way.

I followed him, remembering the time with Ed, where he told me to do exactly what he did. I didn't know if I should keep walking or jogging, Caspian was moving so fast.

We went through three alley ways before opening an abandoned cellar door. Caspian peered down into the basement with a confused expression, and at this moment I was almost certain he was going to murder me. However, the better part of me knew he wouldn't do that.

As I examined the basement from ground level, I noticed a small light come on. Caspian started going down the steps.

"What the fuck, Al. No lock tonight? You wanna get arrested?" Caspian shouted at the man apparently named Al down the dark, dusty steps.

I didn't know whether to follow him or not, so I did just because he wanted me to follow him during everything else risky.

There was a small, square basement past the steps, which had a door and a large man standing next to it. A lock was in the left corner of the room. Another lock was on the door next to the man, who I assumed was Al. My heart started thumping inside of my ribcage as dust filled my nose, making my breathing stutter between a few coughs.

"Calm down, wise guy. Cops are having a spaghetti dinner tonight. I'll lock it up anyway," Al said calmly.

Caspian shook his head, a nervous look taking over his face.

"Yeah, you better lock it up. This is my guest," Caspian didn't look at me, but Al did.

He smirked and flamboyantly placed his hands on his hips, smacking his lips before speaking, "Well dang, Caspian. This one is hot."

I had to hide my laugh, but ended up coughing again anyway from the basement smell and allergens.

Caspian started to look furious at Al's comment. My face was probably turning red from all the laughing and coughing I had to hide, and I even noticed Al cock his eyebrow upwards, like he was second guessing his previous compliment towards me.

Al opened the door, revealing strobing lights and dance music with a steady beat. I couldn't see much past the fog, though, and for some reason the music couldn't be heard outside of this section of the basement.

This was a bar? Caspian walked inside, and I followed. Al smacked my ass on the way in and laughed flirtatiously, which finally made me realize something.

Caspian took me to a gay bar.

"Wait, why did you bring me here? You're not even gay?" I shouted over the loud music.

Caspian advanced further into the building, and I trailed along, watching all the attractive men dance and drink with eachother.

He ignored me.

"If you're doing this just for me, you didn't have to. A normal bar would have been perfectly fine—" I desperately tried to get across to Caspian, and this time he listened.

He turned around to face me with same annoyed look, cutting off the rest of my sentence.

"Shut up," he shouted back, harshly placing his hand against my neck and jaw. He pulled me in, and within seconds I was kissing him. My eyes stayed closed until I realized what was happening. I pulled away slowly, looking at him with wide eyes.

He looked back and shrugged, like nothing happened, "What? I wanted to kiss you," he shouted a little softer now, leaning in to kiss me again.

Inbacked away even more before he could, confused about what to do.

"So you're gay?" I shouted loudly, looking around at the blinding room with what seemed like hundreds of thousands of strobe lights.

"None of your damn business," he shouted back once again, annoyance hinting in his voice even more than before.

"Kiss me back," he shouted one more time, looking at me with those same sad eyes I recognized from the morning he realized I was gay.

I was confused and annoyed, so I went in to kiss him again.

His lips were soft and warm, but this time our kiss was more passionate. It seemed like it lasted forever, and it felt right.

Our lips molded together perfectly and I was no longer confused or annoyed.
