The brakes, Loki, the brakes.

Loki found himself unbelievably pathetic as he listened to the mortals explain their reasons before giving him his new handcuffs.

"It's not cuffs, Loki!" Romanoff had puffed; "It's... Jewellery."

"Perhaps they are golden, but they are still chains," his reply had been.

These were not meant to restrain his hands however, but his magic capabilities, and suddenly, he was left utterly powerless.

He was an Asgardian, still - well, at least fifty percent Asgardian - but living on earth, he would have to act as a human.

Ew.

So, he started human activities. He consumed himself in reading, which he knew many humans were capable of, even though they didn't actually put the skill to use.

Soon enough though, he began to feel trapped within the tower.

Sure, he was permitted to leave, on his own as well, thanks to his new 'accessories', but without the ability to transport himself through space, he found it taking way too long.

To his luck, Tony had a peasant driving him around in cars, and Loki made good use of that, having the mortal take him around the city.

Until Tony found himself in use of a driver.

"I can't hire someone just to drive you around, Reindeer Games," Tony replied in a hurry; "Just take one of the cars."

"And how do you suppose I control it without my magic, mortal?" Loki snapped, already annoyed at the man, not just for taking his driver, but also for continuing to use the degrading name.

"It's called a steering wheel, Loki!" With those words, Tony had left, and Loki decided to do as suggested, heading to the basement.

The many keys he found hanging right next to the door, completely unprotected, and he picked a random said.

"Work, you useless piece of metal!" he compelled it, shaking it violently.

"Would you like assistance?" a voice sounded, and Loki looked up angrily.

"Please," he hissed.

"Press the button," FRIDAY asked, and Loki did as told. A car blinked, and he quickly went over to it and got in.

"Now, how do I start it?" he muttered to himself, only to be answered by the car doing so itself.

"Ah, the spirit of FRIDAY, you have followed me in here, I see!" he commented.

"I am installed in all of Tony Stark's cars," FRIDAY replied.

"Of course, otherwise he would have to do something himself. That man cannot do a single thing without assistance - how do I get the steel horse to drive?"

"It's an automatic car. Press the side of the gear and pull it to D, then press the speeder."

"The speeder?"

"Pedal on the right," FRIDAY added.

"I knew that," Loki claimed, placing his foot on it, causing the car to crash directly into the wall ahead.

"I FIGURED YOU KNEW HOW TO DRIVE!" Tony had yelled angrily when he got back to a brooding Loki.

"I do! Just not without my magic. Really, this is your fault!"

Steve had entered the kitchen right at that point, and Tony had given up.

"Steve, please teach the other ice cube to drive," he asked before leaving the room.

"You can't drive?" Steve asked surprised.

"Of course I can. It is the... Stopping, that seems to be a problem."

"Tony seemed pretty mad. Did you scratch a car?"

"I... Suppose you could call it that," Loki agreed with a small nod.

"Well, that's what happens. Let's go to the garage and I'll teach you."

After having seen the car, Steve decided it was best to begin with a bit of theory.

"What do you do if you see a sign with an x on it?" Steve quizzed.

"I avoid parking, or even stopping, in the area ahead of that sign."

"Good, now, what if-""Hey guys!" Peter interrupted as he entered, Thor by his side.

"What are you two doing?" Thor asked suspiciously.

"We are learning to drive, so do get off the road. Steve has informed me that standing in the street is unwise. Of course, being unwise is your strong side," Loki added thoughtfully.

"No no, this is great!" Steve exclaimed; "Thor and Peter walk unto the street, what do you hit?"

"Why, Thor, of course," Loki answered without missing a beat; "I would never hurt the Spiderboy."

"The brakes, Loki, you hit the brakes," Steve corrected.

"And if you should hit any of us, it should be me," Peter added; "I would die for Thor!"

"I would never let that happen, young spider!" Thor assured him; "Loki was right to hit me."

"See?" Loki agreed.

"Loki knew I would heal quickly, that is why he picked me. Is that not true, Loki?"

Loki looked at Thor.

For three minutes.

Without saying a word.

A. Single. Word.

"Yes. Yes, that was the reason," he then decided, much to Steve and Peters disbelief.

"See!" Thor exclaimed happily.
