Spider-man vs Spider-man pt 1+2
"I'm gonna need the suit back."
Those six words were the end of it all. And somehow the very start, too.
Peter hated not being Spider-man. He hated being... Peter. The orphan, the bullied, the victim.
He missed being a hero.
He missed Mr Stark and he missed his Avenger friends. And a part of him, the part that made him feel guilty (why didn't he just want them to be happy?! What was wrong with him?!) hoped he missed them too.
But, while he was nothing but an insecure little nerd when he was Peter, his time with the Avengers had left something else in him as well. Maybe, the whole being a hero thing, maybe it didn't all come from the suit. And while there were mixed feelings on the internet and the news, most people missed him. They missed Spider-man, they missed Peter.
That was what kept him going. He'd left an empty spot around the Avengers dining table, and he knew it'd be empty until he'd managed to fight his way back.
And how very sad it was that the thing keeping him up, the very thing keeping him sane... Was a lie.
He'd taken the bus to the tower. Usually, he would have swung by (quite literally), but without his suit, it was too risky, and he was forced to do it a more... Normal way.
"Natasha, hey!" he greeted as he caught up with her.
Was he getting in worse shape?
"Hi, uh," She looked to be searching her mind for the right word.
"Peter," he reminded her, suddenly feeling a lot duller.
"Right!" she agreed; "What are you doing here?"
"Y-You don't remember? Y-You guys invited me over before the whole s-suit thing," he reminded her, feeling a bit silly. And since when did he stutter around his friends?
"Of course," she remembered, even though Peter seriously doubted that she did; "Well, raincheck on that, I have to go for a training session."
"Maybe I could come!" Peter suggested quickly.
"Uh, it's, it's for agents only," she mentioned awkwardly; "Anyway, I'll see you around, Pete."
"It's Peter," he corrected her, but no one heard and his friend was already on her way.
"Friday, take me to Mr Stark," Peter asked quietly.
"Right away, Mr Parker. He's in the gym," FRIDAY added helpfully as she closed the elevator doors.
"Nice to see that someone remembers my name," he muttered, gently kicking the floor.
"I am not sure I understand, Mr Parker."
"It's nothing, FRI," Peter assured her as the doors opened.
"I swear I didn't mean to," a young voice cried. Peter looked around the gym to where he saw Natasha, Steve, Tony and... Spider-man??
"You need to be more responsible with this, Jake," Steve lectured.
"July fourth over there is right," Tony agreed; "With great power comes great responsibility."
Peter had said that to Tony in a fight of theirs...
"I don't understand how you could lose your web shooters," Natasha mentioned. Peter looked down to his wrists where they were still placed. Mr Stark had taken his suit, but rightfully the web shooters were created and made by Peter on his own and thereby belonged to him.
"I don't know, they're probably in my room somewhere," he excused.
What? Peter had been gone for a month and this kid he'd never heard of before had a room instead of him now?
"Hey guys," Peter interrupted, stepping into the gym.
Tony looked to Natasha and mumbled something.
"I ran into him downstairs. I think he's delusional or something," she whispered back - something, Peter could only hear thanks to him being the ACTUAL Spider-man.
"Who's this?" he asked, gesturing to the faker standing between them.
"That's Spider-man. And who are you?" Tony asked, protectively steeping in front of Fakey.
"It's me, Mr Stark, you know me," Peter argued.
"Anyone who knows Tony knows that he hates being called that," Fakey interrupted.
"He's right. How did you get up here?" Tony agreed, looking at Peter.
"With the access card you gave me!" Peter argued, holding it up for proof.
"Let me see that," Tony argued, reaching out for it. Peter confidently handed it to him.
"I recognise that serial number from somewhere..." he muttered; "Friday, who does this card belong to?"
"There seems to be a malfunction in your system, boss. The serial number on that card is on two cards, one belonging to Peter Parker, the other to Jake Saton," Friday informed.
"Great, you just revealed my secret identity!" Jake said out annoyed.
"Why did you give him my suit?" Peter demanded.
"So one of the cards is fake?" Tony continued, ignoring the two.
"That is correct."
"Who are you?" Peter asked, getting slightly angry as he stepped towards Jake.
"I'm a hero, leave me alone!" Jake complained, taking a step forward himself.
"You are not a hero! Spider-man is a hero! I am a hero!" Peter replied, facing the mask on close.
"Then why did you lose?" he whispered, making Peter's cup overflow.
Quickly, a fight broke down. And if it hadn't been for Steve pulling Peter back, he surely would have won. Natasha did pull Jake back as well, but it hardly mattered.
He would have never won.
"I don't know who you are or how you managed to make a fake card, but don't come back!" Steve warned as he finally let go of Peter's arm.
"Steve, I'm telling you, I know you!" Peter argued, pulling his arm back and facing Steve angrily.
"Everybody does. I'm Captain America," he pointed out.
"No, I know you."
"Just like everyone else."
"I know more! I know your real name is Stephen," Peter tried.
"That's on Wikipedia," Steve argued.
"I know about Bucky and you, I know the two of you are toget-""How do you know that?" Steve interrupted; "I only told Jake about that."
"No, you only told me! Peter! I don't know what the hell's going on, but I assure you that that Jake guy doesn't know that, because you told me, not him!" Peter yelled loudly.
"You need help." Steve decided as he shut the door before Peter, leaving him out.
