It was, in fact, not gonna be good
The field trip was gonna be good. Not just for Peter, though. Of course, finally having Tony confirm the internship would probably change his life, but Peter kept telling himself it'd be good for Flash to get a lesson, too.
Therefore, he practically bounced the entire way to the school parking lot wednesday morning.
The tour didn't begin until ten, meaning the bus left at 9:30, meaning the students also got to sleep in.
Not that Peter had, though, he'd been too excited and had instead went out as Spider-man.
"Hey! So you can actually show up on time!" Mr Harrison joked, slapping Peter hardly on the back as he passed him on his way into the bus.
"Pete!" Ned yelled, waving Peter over to the seat he'd saved next to him.
"Dude, look what I already found." Ned held his phone in his lap as they watched a video of Spider-mans appearance at a burning house that very morning.
The video afterwards went on to a lousy quality of a mother holding her small child close while tears of joys ran down her cheeks and she thanked Spider-man for having saved 'little Charlie'.
"This is one of my favourite parts," Peter admitted quietly, making Ned send him a knowing smile as he stuck his phone back in his pocket.
"Hey, it's Penis Parker everybody!" Flash said while smiling brightly. He turned to Ned and Peter.
"So, Penis, this is the last chance to admit you lied," he stated cheerfully.
"Ignore him," Ned advised with a sigh.
"Why?" Peter asked, an actual smile flashing on his lips; "I mean, sure, usually I would, but not this time."
"Laugh all you want, Flash, but when we get there, you'll see. I already texted him to stop by." Flash looked at him with an eyebrow raised.
"You texted Tony Stark?" he asked in disbelief. Peter quickly pulled his phone out and found the texts, flashing them up.
"Right," Flash snickered; "You know Tony Stark and he asked you not to call him 'Mr Stark'."
"Believe what you want, Flash," Peter encouraged, smiling to Ned as Flash finally left them alone.
"How do you know Mr Stark won't decide to mess with you?" he questioned curiously.
Peter realised something and got his phone out again.
"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea," he realised in a tired voice.
The tour went by far too quickly. Much to Peter's pleasure, none of the interns had recognized him - which actually seemed reasonable, since he was rarely even down in their labs, as he spent most of his time with mr Stark.
Who was, to his luck as well, heading to where the group were at that very second.
Lab number 5 - primarily for interns. They were being showed around when Tony Stark himself showed up.
"Hello, small humans," he greeted with a smug smile.
A sudden murmur spread amongst the students, who was deeply fascinated with the man in front of them.
Questions started flowing through the air, and Tony answered most of them with a calm smile.
Until the expected one came.
"Excuse me, mr Stark? Do you know Peter Parker?"
Peter felt his lips twitch into a smile as Tony raised his eyebrows.
"Who?"
Peter's lipped parted slighty as he looked at Tony in shock. He discreetly tried shaking his head, but to no use.
The questions went on until Tony had to leave, sending Peter one last smirk as he passed the group.
"Sooo," Flash began, catching up with Peter after he'd excused himself to the bathroom.
"Don't say a word, Flash," Peter warned, honestly not in the mood for any more joking.
"Maybe you're the one who shouldn't have said a word!" Flash replied, pushing Peter's shoulder in order to force the boy to face him.
"What?"
"You lied," he stated coldly.
"Whatever," Peter scoffed.
"Whatever? That's all you have to say?" Flash asked.
"Yes, whatever, Flash! What if I had lied? Who cares? What difference does it make to you?" Peter challenged, taking a step closer; "The only reason you care, is because you're a bully!"
"You're a bully, Flash, but you know what, maybe that's a good thing. Enjoy your time on top. Because once we finish high school, you'll be lucky if you get a job at McDonalds, or maybe you can be a gym teacher at the school, and you can look back to your time of glory and take your anger and bitterness out on the students there!" Peter yelled. Flash looked at him with open mouth.
"But you know what I'll enjoy the most? The fact that whatever you do in that stupid class, it'll always be worse than what I could do! You can't even throw a proper punch!"
That was when Peter hit the edge.
He wasn't sure if Flash hit him because he was angry, or maybe frustrated, or if it was to prove him wrong.
No matter what, Peter couldn't help but feel like he deserved it. He had been unfair to Flash, and that was probably the biggest reason he didn't fight back.
He just stood back and let Flash beat the living crap out of him.
And he did, he really did, and by the time he was pulled away by security, Peter was close to losing consciousness.
"What's going on?" A voice cut through.
Peter recognised that voice.
"Natasha?" he muttered out, his one eye having a bruise so big it forced it shut and the other one only seeing blurry.
"Peter?" Natasha breathed out, quickly making her way to his side, running a gentle hand over his head.
"What happened?" she asked quietly.
"I haven't seen you in a while," Peter stated, thinking he could divert her attention.
"We have to get you away from here," Natasha realised, looking at the gathering that was slowly closing in on them with curious eyes.
With ease she picked up Peter's light body, and that's when Peter lost consciousness.
But it was okay.
He felt okay.
Peter's eyes (eye) fluttered before opening. He clinched them together because of the light.
"Shoot," he heard a voice say; "Natasha, turn the light down."
He heard a small click and opened his eyes again.
"Bruce?" he muttered surprised.
"We were worried there, kid," Bruce told him in a low voice, clearly trying to take his heightened senses under consideration.
"How do you feel?" he asked.
"I'm okay," Peter said honestly, slowly sitting up.
"What happened?" Natasha cut in, crouching down to get eyelevel with him.
"Nothing I can't handle."
"Clearly something you couldn't handle!" she disagreed loudly, making Peter wince.
"I could handle it, I just... Didn't," Peter admitted, slowly sitting up on the couch; "Someone didn't believe I knew you. Didn't like me lying." It wasn't entirely true. It was mostly about Tony, but Peter didn't wanna hurt their feelings.
"Where are we?" he questioned, looking around.
"Lab three," Bruce replied, making Peter nod.
"Someone from your class?" Natasha asked. Peter nodded.
It was a nice lab, he thought. Not as nice as the ones he was used to, but nice.
"Your teacher is demanding to see you," Bruce informed. Peter nodded.
"I did leave the tour," he muttered.
"We told him that you got injured. He'd really like to come see you. See how you're doing," Bruce continued, making Peter smile.
"I like Mr Harrison," He told them.
"Should I let them in?" Bruce asked quietly. Peter nodded, and Bruce headed to the door.
"Wait," Peter realised; "'Them'?"
The door opened, and in came his entire class. Looking surprised, both to see two avengers, and to see Peter Parker lying beat up on a couch in there.
"Peter!" Mr Harrison greeted; "How are you? What happened to you?"
"We have the situation under control," Natasha interrupted coldly.
"I - I was just asking what happened," Mr Harrison stuttered out, looking at the assassin.
"Someone attacked him," Bruce informed.
"Someone from your class," Natasha added harshly.
"S - Someone from our group? I - I am so sorry, we will definitely handle this situa-""No need," she interrupted.
"Peter's safety is an Avengers matter," she stated, sending Peter a quick smile.
"An - An 'Avengers matter'?" Mr Harrison asked.
"All you need to know is that we, along with the rest of the team, of course, will handle this situation," Bruce interrupted, sending the teacher a calming smile.
"And make sure the proper person learns their lesson," Natasha commented, sending one of her deadly smiles.
"Peter?" A loud voice yelled.
Bruce sighed as Tony Stark pushed his way through the group in order to bend down next to Peter and grab his face in his hands.
"Peter? Oh god, are you okay? What the hell happened?!"
"I'm okay, Mr Stark," Peter promised, trying to push the billionaires worried hands away from his face.
"What the hell happened?!" He repeated, eyeing Peter carefully. When he didn't respond, he instead looked between Bruce and Natasha.
"Some kid," Bruce sighed with a shrug.
"He thought Peter lied about knowing us, and I guess... This was his punishment," Natasha followed up with a tired gesture towards Peter.
"Because of my joke..." he realised as he turned back to Peter.
"I'm fine, Mr Stark. It wasn't your fault," Peter promised and squinched in his seat.
Quickly, Tony stood up and turned gracefully around to face the high school students all staring at him.
"My name is Tony Stark. You probably know me. This is Peter Parker. You probably know that, too," he added, stepping aside so the class could see Peter, who shyly tried hiding behind his hands.
"What you don't know is that he is an employee of mine. Actually, he started as my personal intern and has worked his way up. He's now a part of the Avengers family," he stated seriously. Peter looked at him with surprise in his eyes.
"Peter is like a kid to me, and I will be counting my blessings if he decides to someday accept the job offer he'll get to become CEO of Stark Industries."
A mumble spread amongst the students.
"Mr Stark," Peter began.
"It's Tony, kid. Does your aunt know about this?" Tony asked, gesturing to Peter's bruised face. Peter shook his head slowly.
"I'm guessing you don't want her to?" Peter shook his head again.
"Right. Go up to the penthouse, you're staying here until you're patched up and until we solve whatever caused this," Mr Stark decided.
"It can't be solved that easily, Mr Stark," Peter sighed, forgetting about his class as he stood up to face Tony; "This is what it's like at my school."
"Then you'll go to another school," Tony decided calmly.
"I can't! This school is the best public school when it comes to science and maths," Peter reminded him.
"Then we'll get you into a private school!" Tony argued.
"You know we can't afford that!" Peter replied, crossing his arms above his chest.
"Obviously I'll be paying," Tony scoffed, sounding offended by the mere thought that Peter would find a way to pay himself.
"I don't wanna go to a private school! I like my school!" Peter argued, stomping his foot angrily on the ground like a little angry bunny.
"Okay, you two can argue later," Natasha interrupted; "Pete, penthouse. Now."
"If I leave now you're gonna kill my entire class looking for who did it," Peter stated.
"Would that be so bad?" Tony muttered, glancing over the scared faces.
"Peter, it'll be okay," Bruce promised, sending the kid a reassuring smile.
Peter looked unsurely between Bruce and Tony and Natasha, but ended up nodding.
Bruce could keep them in track.
As he left the lab, his lips turned into a hugh smile.
Maybe he'd been beaten up, maybe Tony had made a bad prank, but... That field trip had been pretty good anyway.
I really wish I could dedicate this to all readers, voters and especially people who comment and follow me. I've literally laughed out loud because of some of your comments, and I really love hearing your thoughts throughout the chapters - also because it makes it so much easier to write ones you'll like.
So this one is to be everyone reading this!
-Tessa (you're all bloody lovely so feel free to call me Tess haha)
