Chapter Seven
AELA POV
"One." I spoke, my voice even.
From what I could hear, there were only two of them, a male and female. It shouldn't be to difficult too take them on if they prove to be a threat, unless they were powerful like us. However three against two were some pretty good odds.
I had met Aki, the tall Asian girl, and Dieter the blonde German boy, shortly after I had awoken, we were all in cages in a white room.
Obviously we managed to escape, but had been put through some hellish situations. It was clearly evident from the beginning that I was differnt, with my cat-like looks and abilities. My sense of smell, along with my sight had both been heightened and I was also gifted with unhumanlike reflexes and an amazing jumping ability.
Before I had been kidnapped, I was not like this. I was normal looking with normal abilities, spending most of my time helping out with my family's zoo, in Lisieux, France.
My mind flashed back to what happened right before I was kidnapped.
It was a clear blue sky, the middle of August. I had just helped finish bathing the elephants when, Blaise, one of the zookeepers, had stumbled onto her knees crying out in pain, before falling flat onto her face.
"Blaise!" I cried out, rushing to her aid. However by the time I got to her, her eyes were closed and she was unresponsive. What just happened?
I looked up outside the enclosure, trying to see if anyone was around to help, but to my shock, people were stumbling to fates similar to Blaise's.
Was there some poisonous gas leaking? Was I hallucinating? What is happening?
And then I was was in pain.
My ears wer changing shape and moving to an entire different part of my head, and it caused a stinging seemingly neverending painful headache, allowing me to lose sense of thought. I could feel my tail bone extend giving me extreme pelvic and lower back burning pain. My canines became sharper and larger, causing my gums to throb, and fingernails grew into sharp points.
Just when I thought this would never end, the pain just vanished, and the world appeared in a whole new light.
I sat up and took in my old surrounding as if this was the first time here.
Everything was sharper, and clearer. A fly ten feet away was the most annoying thing in the world, loud like static on the television. I could read a sign on a food cart displaying menu items.
My muscles were bursting with intense amounts of energy, and some sausage wafting from a food cart was sending my tastebuds into a savory overdrive.
I am a vegetarian.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a hooded figure jump into the enclosure.
My eyes flashed, recognizing it as a potential danger.
I fell naturally into a crouch, and had my claws out, ready to kill.
When did I start calling my nails claws? And since when have I ever considered murder?
What is going on?
The person came closer, and a metallic smell came from the person. It smelled like how steel tasted.
People smelled different than that. Even the dead corpses surrounding me it their stench had sweet scented sweat coated on their bodies.
It turned its head to look directly at me, and my eyesight proved that my intuition had been right, this was no human.
I was dealing with a robot.
I sprang up into the air, and out of the enclosure with cat-like reflexes. The robot took off after me, as I took off, running faster than I could ever imagine.
I banned and weaved over deadbodies scattered all over the place, trying to loose the robot that was hot on my tail.
And then I took a double take that stopped me in my tracks. Dead bodies, people of all ages and sizes, were littered on the ground. I blinked back in shock. What had happened? Did they suffer the same fate Blaise had?
All my questions had stopped me from realizing I had been running away from a potential danger. Before I knew it, a sharp point had been jabbed into my neck and I fell into the ground, my unconsciousness taking over.
When I woke up again, I was in a room, covered in white. I couldn't see a lighthouse but it was so bright it was causing my eyes to sting.
After a few minutes of adjusting, I noticed the thick silver bars holding me captive, and then two other cages holding a blonde haired boy and an Asian girl.
I managed to bend the bars, surprisingly, and let myself out, and without too much hesitation, let the other two out of their cells.
What had happened while I was unconscious?
"Wait! Sorry! Don't hurt us please!" A female voice came from behind the rock, snapp9ng me away from my memory. A very short girl, maybe 5'4", appeared wearing nothing but a gray oversized shirt.
She had long tangled hair, threatening to spill its way out of a ponytail. It was hard to say what color her hair was. Was it brown, blonde, a really darky gray? And her eyes glowed green.
After her appeared the last person I would ever expect.
World famous popstar Jonah Hudson. Even in his horrible state, I would notice the deep blue eyes and curly brown hair of my celebrity crush for the past too years. And he was standing infront of me. Shirtless.
I looked between the two, slightly jealous that the girl was obviously wearing the Jonah Hudson's t-shirt.
It was taking every nerve in my body not to rush towards Jonah Hudson and scream and kiss him like the fangirl that I was.
"Who you?" Aki asked her Japanese accent very thick. Unlike me and Dieter, her English was not entirely great.
"I-I'm Sparaline and thats Jonah." The girl, Sparaline, glanced at me like like I might try to attack them.
"Were you kidnapped?" Dieter asked, his American Accent was way better than both mine and Aki's.
"Yeah, you?" Jonah spoke, his words caressing my entire body. I shivered wanting to hear more of him.
Dieter nodded his head.
Everything was quiet for a moment before the girl spoke.
"Who are you guys?"
"I am, Dieter, her name is Aki, and she is-"
"Aela." I replied, cutting Dieter off to speak for myself.
I had the fangirl in me mostly calmed down.
"Powers. You have them?" Aki asked, getting straight to the point.
"I think so," Sparaline spoke, and then went on to describe how she burned some mannequinns, my baby Jonah's hand, how she froze something she called water-gel, and and then how the water caught her and she could feel things in the water and breath in the water and then how she felt us walking when she touched the earth.
After explaining all of that she looked over to Jonah, who only shrugged his shoulders.
However he had been staring at me, and my ears in disbelief this entire time causing me to look down, shyly.
"He kicked a door across a room, resurrected me from the dead apparently-"
"I did CPR, that's not resurrecting you." Jonah interrupted the girl.
"You have to admitt that were not normal now! I just proved it!"
"You proved nothing!"
I could see the anger flashing behind the girls eyes.
However, where I expected to see anger or even annoyance in Jonah's, it was only a mischievous smirk on his face.
He was enjoying their little arguments.
I felt the jealous fangirl inside me bubble up, trying desperately for a way to break those two apart.
"Seriously. Do you have an ability or not." I asked, letting annoyance in my tone show.
"I don't know. Maybe?" Jonah replied in the same annoyed tone that dabbed right through my heart.
"What about you guys?" Spara asked, her wide eyes all innocent and kind of childish.
I pointed up at me ears with a kind of a 'duh' expression on my face. I knew she didn't really deserve it, but I couldn't help not liking her.
"Shield."Aki spoke.
I had only seen Aki use her ability once. It had been shortly after we escaped the white room with the cages in it.
Huge boulders fell down on us from a ceiling we could not see, about to squish us flat like a pancake. I could detect how big and where they were falling by noise alone, and managed to grab ahold of Dieter and pull him away from a flatened death.
However Aki had been too far back, and the boulder fell right on top of her. A greenish glow formed around her, just before she could be crushed to death, illuminating the dark hall we were in and causing the Boulder to split into hundreds of peices.
She just sat their stupidly as more boulders showered down on her.
Unfortunately for me and Dieter, we didn't have a force field that let us sit there all day long and get hit by rocks.
"Aki! I had yelled at her, snapping her out of whatever trance she had been in and she raced towards us, her shield dissipating.
Jonah rolled his eyes, at the other girls one worded answer. Annoyance rolled off him in waves.
"I can, uh, heal." Dieter spoke up, breaking the awkward silence, and walked right up to Jonah.
He grabbed Jonah's hand, but the popstar yanked it away.
"What are you doing?" Jonah demanded in a condescendingly handsome voice.
"Your burn. Let me see." Dieter requested, ignoring Jonah's hostility.
"No way in-"
"Quite being a prude and give him your hand." Sparaline ordered, glaring at my future husband.
How dare she talk to him like that!
Jonah glared back, but threw his hand out in Dieter's direction.
I was able to glance at the red and blistering burn in all its glory on Jonah's hand.
Dieter gave him a kind smile and started caressing the other boys palm.
"What the actual fu-"Jonah started to say, but had looked down and noticed the blue light emitted over his hand.
I had seen Dieter use his power on multiple occasions. Whenever me or Aki had a scratch, or so much as a bruise. Like me, his ability seemed to come to him naturally.
Like Aki, Jonah and Sparaline didn't seem to have hardly any control at all.
"Woah..." Jonah said. Turning his hand this way and that after Dieter was done. It was unblemished and looked smooth. I wanted to touch it.
"Do me next!" Sparaline squealed. Shoving her hands towards the German. Her hand looked perfectly fine, aside from a few blisters due to climbing
However, Dieter was way more than happy to oblige, and soon she was inspecting her hands in awe.
"What now?" Aki asked. She was always down for business and never liked small talk. Or maybe she just preferred to speak in her own language and there was no one here to understand it.
"We need to get over that wall." Sparaline, stated.
"And just how are we doing that?" I asked, my voice snazzy and cool. Aki and Dieter both raised eyebrows at me, but I ignored them. This girl was my competition for my true loves heart.
I glanced over at Jonah to see his reaction, but the glare he was sending me made me turn away instinctively.
"I-I don't know." She stuttered.
"Let us rest. For now." Aki spoke. The tone of her voice and the way she talked reminded me of a wise old lady and it made me want to laugh.
The sky was turning to a dark blue and taking on some purple hues. Night was not far off.
"Good idea." Dieter nodded. "We should take turns for watch so nothing sneaks up on us."
"I can go first." Sparaline offered.
"I will join you." Dieter responded, earning a sharp look from Jonah.
"I'm sure you will." Jonah spoke, his tone clearly annoyed.
"Calm down. You need some rest. You haven't even got a chance to hardly lay down. You can go on second watch with Aela, if that's okay?" The question was dirrected towards both of us, and I nodded my approval as Jonah rolled his eyes at Sparaline, something he seemed to do a lot and something she seemed to really hate.
I think he done it just for her benefit.
Aki, Jonah, and I all lied down on a soft patch of grass surrounded by a patch of rocks that Dieter and Sparaline perched on top of.
Aki fell asleep almost instantly.
I always wondered how she could do that, just slump down and fall into a deep sleep anywhere, even if danger may be lurking about.
Jonah stayed still, but I knew he was awake, no doubt straining to hear the conversation Sparaline and Dieter were having that caused them to laugh quietly.
I tried my best to zone them out. Dieter was friendly towards everyone and would love to talk your ear off, given the chance. I knew Sparaline was probably the same way.
Good, I thought, drifting to sleep. They can have each other and leave Jonah to me.
