Close Encounters of the turtle kind.
Note: big gap
Like this, means that the POV has changed, because it's easier to push three buttons rather than nine to ten buttons.
"Crystal, I'm not sure about this."
"Oh com'on Shellshock, I think that we'll be able to piece together your past."
"I doubt it, plus it's not fair to the rest of you."
"No, it's not fair to the three turtles that look exactly like you. The rest of us are fine. In fact, most of the clan has moved on from their past life, mainly because; there's nothing left for us."
"True, but stil-"
"No. You still have a family, and they're looking for you."
"Ok ok. I'll meet them. But first I need to try to figure out the basics."
"That's my giant turtle."
-_-
"The biggest basic is to get you to talk English again."
"Shoot. That's also going to be the hardest for me."
"You'll be fine. Com'on! Let's see what we can find at your old place."
"Alright. Just a sec. I want to check out something. You go ahead."
"Well, if you say so Shock."
I smiled as the teen jumped to the rooftops. She shot me one back, and flicked her emerald blue tail. Her spike was the last sign I saw of her. True, I have X-Ray, Infared, and Ultraviolet sight, but I got an odd feeling I needed to check on.
I opened a garbage can, and began my digging.
Com'on. Com'on. There's gotta be one piece of the silver robots in this city.
Halfway down, my claw found some fabric. It smelled like old sawdust.
What on Earth is this?
Looping my claw around a hole, I picked up the green thing.
It was a stuffed iguana in a top hat. It had the saddest monocle on its left eye.
Whoo, this thing REEKS.
I threw the puppet into the dumpster. It hit the lid with a muted thunk, and the second after, I remembered, . . something. A voice, young by the tone, was saying," Hello Mister, How you like my Monacle?"
Another, more to the point," That's monocle, and that things filled with sawdust."
"Eww."
There was a pause, and a third voice with more attitude," Give it up Donnie, that things as useless as a trench coat on a turtle."
That was the only thing I got. I walked over to the green container.
"What makes you so special, little puppet? And how are you connected with this city's lore?"
I picked it up, guarding my nose all the while. Looking it over, all that came out was dust and a canister of ooze.
Raph POV
After leaving the Mighty Mutanimals, I wandered into the street.
What happened to Leo? When and why was there a hidden lab in New York? Actually, take that back.
Ugh. I just want things back the way they were.
I was about to kick a garbage can when I heard clicks and other inhuman noises. I hid by the corner, trying to see what was happening.
A minute passed, and the clicks stopped. However they were soon followed by the sound of rustling garbage. A few seconds, a thunk. Half a minute, a Tink. I looked into the alley. At first it was hard to see, so I moved closer.
It was Leo! And for some reason he was holding a canister of mutagen. I was happy to see him again, despite the extra features.
Wait? Why is it uncapp-
"Leo! What are you doing!?"
Well, you got me a snack.
I uncapped the cylinder, and began to raise it to my jaw.
"Leo! What are you doing!?"
If it weren't for the odd call he would probably be dead by now. Instinctively, I blasted frost-breath at the newcomer. Luckily I only froze him below the knees. I calmed down, and took a good look at the reptile in front of me.
Is that, my b-brother?
I made a mistake yelling. Quicker than I can smack Mikey I was frozen in place. Well, least my legs were. I pulled out my sais, and tried to see my brother. I also began to hack at the ice frozen to my feet. Leo couldn't be seen very well due to the alley being dark.
"Leo? It's alright. It's me, Raph."
I spotted some movement, then Leo came out of the shadows. He no longer held the mutagen.
After stashing the ooze, I stepped out of my hiding place to let him see me. Trying my hardest, I asked him several things.
Am I Leo?
What's a Raph?
What happened here?
Why did you leave?
None of them came through. The look of confusion was enough.
Leo began to growl, hiss, click, whistle, and all sorts of other sounds. I had no idea what he was trying to do. Not knowing what else to do, I shrugged my shoulders. I didn't notice till now, but his ears drooped slightly. "I'm sorry, but I can't understand you."
He stood there for a minute, thinking. Suddenly his ears perked up. Head and ears on a swivel, he looked for something.
"I'm sorry, but I can't understand you." The turtle said. I was about to try again till I heard a can getting kicked on the roof above. I readied for battle. Before jumping up however to confront the intruder, I remembered that I froze the turtle. Starting a light flame, I melted the ice. As it neared the end, I dug out a storage chip. I handed it to him, and jumped to the roof.
Leo's ears came down to a normal level. He turned back towards me, and opened his jaw to the point where I swear it dislocated. The blue stripes that lined Leo's shell barely began to turn a deep yet bright red. A small flame came out of the mutant's maw, and wound around the ice. While it melted, Leo handed me a flash drive. Nodding, he turned on his heel and jumped to the roofs; his stripes back to an azure blue. The flash looked like it was made from Kraang tech, but the color was off and the design was wrong. Instead of being purple, silver, and patterned with lines and circles; this one was made up of only curves and colored bronze.
I tucked it into my bag, and followed him to the roofs. Staying low, I watched what was happening.
I leapt away from the streets, and onto the more open skyline. The concrete below me was hard and was beginning to fail.
My bones and muscles shifted as I got down on all fours. Snout and tail growing longer, I could also smell far better. Taking in a breath, I identified 4 pigeons, with one still on the rooftop. There was another smell here that I couldn't identify. I patrolled some more on the rooftop.
The lone stupid pigeon perched plump on a bar, and I doubt it could fly do its own weight.
My stomach growled.
I haven't eaten meat for a solid two weeks, and my diet of sunlight, moonlight, and vegetation didn't fill the stomach . Crouching to a pounce position, I readied myself. I made my move.
The bird didn't even try to fly.
I tore into it, savoring every bite. All focus on dinner, I didn't care to pay attention to my surroundings. But for the moment, I was hungry.
I watched as Leo changed into a lizard thing. I know I saw it from a weird book on dinosaurs I flipped through. It was a Kap, Kaprosuch-a-what'cha-ma-callits. The tall crocodile lizard.
Anyway, his hind legs bent backwards at the knee, and his feet changed to what looked like talons. His hands widened and lengthened, growing long claws at the now four fingers.
From his head by the ears, grew two curved horns that went behind him. The small, toothy snout also grew longer, and had more teeth.
Along the spine, I could see small spikes emerge from the center of the shell. They looked as sharp as the teeth, and the claws for that matter.
Finally the tail, which grew to take up half of Leo's body length. The tip had three long, sword-looking spikes growing there.
He stretched, and began to sniff the ground much like a hound dog. Looking up, I could see his eyes lock onto something. I heard a growl from an empty stomach.
Finally noticing, I saw ribs pressed firmly against the scaled skin.
How long has he been living like this? As a, a creature with no food? I'm sure in his mind I looked like a buffet.
Heck, I'm sure I would be dinner if he didn't remember me.
Leo pounced, then I heard the crushing of bones.
What did he, catch?
I got brave enough to get onto the rooftop.
My brother had his back towards me, and the position of his ears showed he was entirely focused on the meal. Coming to the right side, I got a better look at 'dinner'.
It was a pigeon, or at least half of one.
Nearly gagging at the goriness of it, I retreated back to my spot. Pulling out my T-phone, I called up Donnie and Mickey, with the intention of getting them here with food.
I ate it all; feathers, muscles, bones, and the works. Once the last solid part was down my throat; I licked up the pool of blood, tasting sweet.
Getting up, I adjusted my spine to unfold my wings. They came out with ease, and one was easily big enough to cover a tarp.
Stretching them out, I began for takeoff. But something didn't seem quite right.
First off, I was tired.
Second, I had trouble finding the fifth smell, or identifying others.
And third, I was just plain tired.
My vision hazed slightly, and my brain was slow to click. Despite the reasons, I started to flap the wings.
The first got me off the ground, the second got me higher than the big board on the building.
And the third.
The third I came crashing back down. During the fall I changed back into my 'normal' self. Only when I came into contact with the concrete did my thoughts click.
Drugged. The fifth smell was a person setting up the pigeon. They knew I was hungry, and they'd guess I'd take the bait.
Vision fading, I rolled over onto my underside. My last conscious act was calling out to the clan, telling them that the Alpha has been caught.
I was about to hang up with the guys when I heard something hit the roof.
"And you better hurry."
"Don't worry Raph, were on our way."
I hung up, and went to check.
It was Leo laying on his back on the hard roof. Jumping up, I dashed to my bro. He struggled to get onto his other side, so I gently helped him over. Once on the preferred side, he gave out the eeriest cry that I've ever heard. Just listening to it chilled me to my bones. I honestly couldn't believe that his vocal chords let him make such a sound. It sounded sad, threatening, and just plain scary.
It's kinda like those weird noises that we heard in the woods at night that give campers the chill, or the background sound in a horror film; only at least fifty times more effective.
The half turtle lowered his head, and slept.
A few minutes later Donnie and Micky showed up.
M: Raph! Did you hear that noise? It gave me the shivers, man!
R: Yes, I heard it, and I happened to find the source.
D: How? Something needed to create that sound would've had to have been at least from the Eastern hemisphere, I believe.
R: Believe it or not, we need to get Leo back to the lair.
By now Mikey had found Leo and was intent on touching all the dangerous parts.
M: Woah. Look at these horns. Awww, and the little tiny ears. Donnie, is it possible for you to make a mutagen thingy to let me have a tail?
D: Eh, let me think really hard on it. How about No. But what's this metal plate at the base of his neck?
M: awe man.
R: No clue, but I know it's not supposed to be there.
D: It looks like a tracker or a support implant. There's not anything here besides the shape and the way it goes int-
New Person: Cut the chatter. I'm here for the experiment and nothing else. So I suggest you step aside, or you'll be next.
M: So your not freaked out by giant turtles?
D: Why won't anyone let me finish?
NP: No. I've seen stranger things in high school.
M: Oh.
R: I don't know where you came from or what you want with our brother, but you can't have him. Micky! Smoke bomb!
M: On it!
Purple smoke covered the area, and all four had disappeared.
NP: Scout 120 to Control: we have a turtle problem. Yes, I'm serious, three humanoid turtles made Ex21-12 escape. But the trap worked.
