Chapter 34: News

3rd POV

The class gathered around anxiously, waiting for the doctor to speak. The man looked distraught and tired. He held a clipboard infront of him, fiddling with the ends of the paper as he looked for the right words. Aizawa and Hizashi recognized the man as Kamane, the doctor that had been helping Izuku from the start. Although the doctor hates to admit it, he has grown attached to the boy, like many others.

"Hello again Aizawa, Hizashi, Bakugo..." He trailed off, his eyes watering slightly. "First, I want to let you all know Izuku is alive." A small sigh of relief went through the room. "I-I don't know how to say any of this easily, so I'm just going to jump into it." He took a deep breath, trying to compose himself. "A-as you three saw, Izuku went into a seizure as he was being transported to the hospital, this was due to the manifestation of another quirk called Blackout. His body has begun to reach it's limit at the number of quirks he can handle. Currently, he has 12. It seems that while he was captured, he went through some gruesome stuff." He paused, wiping away a quick tear. "W-we also ran some tests and scans. He has an ungodly amount of drugs in his system and there are signs of a strong hallucinagen being one of the main drugs used. We have no way of knowing how these drugs affected his mental state."

There was a small pause again. Small sniffles could be heard through the room. "There's something else..." The doctor looked to Aizawa. "Something was done to the boy. Something that makes him heal in the blink of an eye."

Aizawa nodded slowly. "W-we saw a little bit of the quirk in a video the villains sent." Kamane's face dropped slightly at this information.

"Well, that's the thing...." He clenched his clipboard tightly. "It's not a quirk." The class gasped. Bakugo let off small explosions as his emotions began to boil. "Izuku had to be put through horrible testing to get these results. What happened to him has only been talked about as theory. No one has been risky enough to try it on a person as it is considered immoral and taboo in the medical field."

Hizashi was shaking now, not able to handle the information being given to him. Aizawa held him close, helping him to a seat. "Kamane," Aizawa said in a low voice. "Is Izuku going to be ok?"

A grim look crossed the doctors face. "Right now he is stable. We... we lost him twice during the operations, but we have him stable now." Everyone broke with this news.

The sweetest boy they knew had his heart stop. Not once, not twice, but three times, just because of some asshole villains twisted games. Everyone looked at the doctor with sorrowful faces, waiting for more information.

"Although he is stable now, we have no way of telling how his body is going to hold up. Even with this healing enhancement, his body is in really rough shape. His lungs are what's most concerning. Even if he heals up fully, he is going to have major breathing problems. His lung capacity has been reduced greatly. He will likely have to wear a nasal cannula. These are just oxygen tubes that would go in his nose to help him breathe. I have called in Recovery Girl, she should be able to help his lungs. If all goes as planned, he should only need an inhaler after 5 months to a year of healing sessions. As of now, he just needs to rest. He should be out for the next 5 days, so if I were you I'd go get some rest. You will all be the first to know when he wakes up."

The crowd slowly nodded, trying to comprehend the information they were just given. Midnight walked up, placing a caring hand on Hizashi's shoulder.

"I-I'll give you all some space." Kamane said, his voice wavering slightly as he spoke. "Aizawa, Hizashi, you and Bakugo may come see him if you'd like. Once he has healed more, the rest of you should be able to visit."

Aizawa and Nezu got the class to disperse, sending them back to the dorms to rest and wait. The three allowed to see Izuku followed the doctor down the hall.

Aizawa POV

Kamane led us down the halls, Zashi gripping my hand tightly as we walked. I can tell he's really worried. He has stayed almost completely silent the whole time. We got to the door and paused before entering.

We entered the room, it was dim with a light above Izuku's bed. He laid there, his hair was still covered in dirt and blood. His shaved head was wrapped up in a clear wrap, the words tattooed to his skull, easily visible. Izuku's hand laid by his sides, his fists clenching ever so often. I noticed the scars around the base of his fingers and his blackened nails. I shuddered at the thought of the pain. A blanket was laid across his lap, leaving his bandaged chest exposed. There was an orange tinge to his skin peaking out from under the bandages, left over from the surgery.

I watched the shallow rise and fall of his chest. He had a oxygen mask over his nose and mouth. IV's and other cords were attached to him going in every direction. The steady beep of the heart monitor filled the room.

We all sat down next to him, Kamane stood at the base of Izuku's bed. He looked so tired.

"Kamane..." I said softly. "I can never thank you enough for what you've done." He looked at me with teary eyes and nodded. I felt Zashi hug my side, I wrapped my arms around him.

"Thank you Aizawa." He said. "There is one other thing. We think that it would be best to attach Izuku to a feeding tube while he is out. It will help him regain his energy and hopefully stabalize his weight. He lost all of his progress and then some. I'm worried about the negative effects his weight might have while he heals."

I hummed in response. "I wanted to ask you two before continuing. I will leave the decision up to you."

Hizashi and I looked at each other and then Izuku. After a brief moment of silence I spoke up. "You can go ahead. Just, don't push him too much." Kamane nodded.

"We will do that tomorrow. I'll leave you four alone for now." Kamane bowed slightly and left the room.

We sat there for the rest of the day, watching Izuku. Guarding him and making sure nothing happened. Bakugo never took his eyes off Izuku. He looked so pained and worried. He held Izuku's hands, softly rubbing circles on the back of his hand in hopes of bringing Izuku some kind of comfort while he is trapped in his own head.

-------

It's been three days since Izuku has been in the hospital. The feeding tube was attached two days ago and it seems to be going well.

The first night we were here, the nurses tried to tell us visiting hours were over and boy did that end badly. Bakugo and Zashi lost their minds at the thought of leaving Izuku. Needless to say, we haven't been told to leave since then. I urged Bakugo to go home for a day, just to reset and get some fresh air. I think if we had been anywhere else, he would have blown me up. He was gone for a total of two hours, coming back with a bookbag full of stuff so he wouldn't be told to leave again.  Smartass kid.

The only time I left the room was for the quick dash down to the first floor to grab food for the three of us and the occasional coffee. I like to tell myself that the scent of coffee is comforting to Izuku in some way.

------

The next day, we were woken up by a fast beeping. I shot up. Izuku was starting to shake and his heart rate was getting faster and faster. Hizashi ran to the door and screamed down the hall. Nurses and doctors came flooding into the room.

The three of us stood by in shock, not knowing what was happening. The lights in the room started to flicker and green sparks started coming from the bed. I felt my grip on Zashi's hand tighten as my breath caught in my chest.

Tears pricked my eyes as I watched some of the equipment around the bed lift lightly off the ground. The hair of the people around Izuku lifted slightly. Why are so many of his quirks acting up? What is going on? I felt myself beginning to panic. I haven't had a panic attack in so long. I felt a ringing in my ears. I watched as Izuku began glitching slightly in the bed, making it had for the doctors to help him.

A doctor ran from the room, shouting things I couldn't hear. My hands began to shake as I watched my son's face scrunch up in pain.

Hizashi seemed to notice, he stepped infront of my eyes. Tears were streaming down his face. I could see his mouth moving as he tried to bring me back.

"Sho- ear m- can- Sho! Can you hear me?" He was cupping my face. "Breathe with me. Ok? Go in, one, two- and out, one, two. Good. In, one, two- and out, one, two." He repeated this until my breathing returned to normal. My nerves still on fire.

During this, the doctor had rushed back in with two more people and something in their hands. The two new people shouted orders and commands as the other doctor snapped a metal bracelet onto Izuku's wrist before he could glitch again. The glitching stopped and the equipment fell back down to the floor. However, he was still shaking and there were still small sparks coming from him.

"This shouldn't be possible, that is our strongest quirk canceller bracelet!" The doctors kept working, Izuku's heart was beating fast still.

I heard a small noise from the bed and saw Izuku open his eyes, gasping for air. His eye's were fully black, scaring some of the nurses. I felt a hand wrap around my forearm. I looked beside me to see a crying Bakugo. He looked at me. His eyes were full of fear. This wasn't the same loud egotistical Bakugo I knew, this was a boy scared out of his mind that his childhood friend was going to die. I let him be, turning my attention back to the commotion.

Izuku's eyes flashed from black to white. His shaking wasn't stopping. A nurse got out a syringe and quickly injected Izuku with it. His eyes faded back to their original emerald green as his eyes rolled back into his head. His body relaxed and the room fell silent. One of the lights in the corner of the room still flickering.

The doctors looked at my son with such confusion. They waited as his heart rate slowed again, slowly reattaching the cords that had fallen off. I was only snapped out of my daze when Zashi stepped forward.

"Wh-what just happened to my son?" He asked quietly. The doctors whipped their heads around. It doesn't seem like they knew we were still in the room. No one spoke for a second.

"W-well, to be honest, we don't fully know." A woman with red hair tied into a long pony tail spoke up. A few strands of hair framed her face, her cheeks were red from the events that just went down. She tried catching her breath and spoke again. "We p-put a quirk cancelling bracelet on him, but.... but it didn't work."

We looked at her in shock. "What do you mean it didn't work?" Bakugo spoke up this time.

"Well, the bracelet seems to have only cancelled some of his quirks and has only suppressed others." She paused, looking back to the sleeping Izuku. "Honestly, I don't even think that the bracelet is cancelling anything, it might just be suppressing the full extend of his quirks."

"I think we should keep the bracelet on until we have a better understanding of the situation." Another doctor said. This doctor was reattaching Izuku's IV as they spoke. Hizashi and I nodded, understanding that it was probably best.

-a week later-

3rd POV

Through out the week, Aizawa and Hizashi were more on edge, waiting for Izuku to wake up. Recovery girl stopped by a few times, trying to heal the boy's lungs without taking too much out of him. The color was returning to his cheeks and his dark circles began to fade. Aside from the occasional cough, Izuku quietly recovered. Aizawa had forced Bakugo to go get some rest and interact with his friends. He hadn't spoken much since Izuku fell unconscious and it was beginning to worry his teacher. Aizawa had to threaten expulsion just to get him to leave for a few hours a day.

In the mean time, they had run some more tests to try and figure out the mystery of the night from a week ago. Kamane informed the small family that some of the drugs injected into Izuku caused a some of the quirks to inflate in strength. He also stated that the sheer number of quirks Izuku has could also play a part.

"There's something else that's worrying." Kamane continued. "We found traces of the same quirk manifesting drug as before, implying that he was given a second injection. We are going to start him on a medication that is meant to put off quirk manifestation. This is typically used on children with pre-existing health problems that might not be able to handle their quirks yet." The couple nodded. There was tension in the room. Aizawa could feel that there was more the doctor needed to say.

"Just say it. We can handle it." Aizawa said sternly. The doctor looked to Izuku. The boy looked so peaceful. It hurt him to know just how much pain the poor kid was going through. He let out a shaky breath.

"Well, if... if Izuku get's another quirk..." He trailed off. "The backlash on his body could be worse than we though. He could lose one of his senses, or the ability to walk, or worse..." The doctor sat down. "I know it's not very professional of me, but I admit I've grown fond of Izuku. He's like the nephew I never had." Kamane chuckled. "He's a strong kid. He deserves so much better than this."

Hizashi smiled at the doctor. "Thank you Kamane. It's really reassuring to have someone like you looking out for Izuku."

The three chatted until Kamane had to leave for other patients. The couple reflected on their time spent with Izuku. Neither of them could imagine their lives without him. He completed their little family.

------

Back at UA, a retired All Might had become the temporary home room teacher for 1A, and Midnight was covering for Hizashi. Neither was qualified for these new roles.

It was a Friday, so everyone was anxious for the final bell. Bakugo especially.

The bell rang and he practically sprinted out of his seat, only to be stopped by the principal at the door. "Hello students!" He yelled in a chipper voice. "I have news for all of you- Bakugo don't leave yet." Bakugo froze in the doorway, one foot up in the air. He growled, his eye twitching with frustration. "As I was saying. I have news!"

Murmurs filled the room as everyone gathered by the door. "Later today, the hospital has decided that it is ok for you to start visiting Midoriya." The class erupted with excited chatter, everyone ready to see the little cinnamon roll again. "Now, now. Izuku has not yet woken up and is still recovering." The class quieted down as Nezu continued. "You will be allowed in the room four at a time. They don't want you to bring flowers or anything scented." Everyone nodded at the conditions.

"Principal Nezu." Said Todoroki. Everyone's attention turned to him. "If Midoriya isn't fully healed, or even awake, why are we allowed to visit him?"

"Good question young one!" Nezu hopped onto a desk and continued to explain. "The doctors think that it would be a good idea if he heard his friends voices. It could help him wake up faster." Nezu's expression turned dark. "The poor boy is trapped in his own mind right now. We can only imagine what horrors he is suffering through." Everyone's heads drooped, they understood. The group had only seen a sliver of the pain Izuku has suffered.

Nezu hopped off the desk, his expression returning to normal. "Well. Midnight will be escorting who ever would like to go to the hospital today at 6 pm sharp. There will be other days to go, so if you aren't feeling up for it today, you're welcome to go tomorrow." Nezu walked out, leaving the class to think.

Everyone returned to the dorms and began to get ready. They had two hours to wait, so they channeled their nervous energy. Bakugo left early for the hospital. Sato baked some sweets for his teachers. Ururaka, Kirishima, and Tsu began making cards. Jiro started to write a small song with the help of Ashido and Kaminari. Todoroki entered the common room holding a fluffy cat stuffed animal.

"Aweee!" Exclaimed Hagakure. "Is that for Midoriya?"

A light blush coated Todoroki's cheeks. "Y-yes." He said quietly. "Izuku has mentioned how much he adores cats and since they aren't allowed in hospitals, I got this for him. I also got him a book about coffee. I know how much he likes reading and coffee, so I though he might enjoy it once he wakes up." He looked up to see he had the attention of half of the class. His blush grew.

"Wow Todoroki, I think that is the most I've ever heard you speak at once." Jiro said, honestly impressed by how social the two toned boy was being.

In an instant, Kaminari was next to him with a smirk on his face. He leaned over and whispered in Todoroki's ear. The boy went fully red. A small flame lighting on his shoulder from his embarrassment. He looked at Kaminari with wide eyes. The yellow haired boy giggled.

"Don't worry. I won't tell anyone." He said smoothly as he walked away. Earning himself a glare from Todoroki.

The time passed and the class ended up at the hospital. They broke up into small groups of four. The first group consisted of Ururaka, Todoroki, Kirishima, and Kaminari. Four of the five that helped rescue Izuku.

They came up to the door to Izuku's room and knocked. A puffy eyed Bakugo opened the door, quietly letting them inside. The four were a little freaked out by their classmates calm behavior, especially since Bakugo and Todoroki tended to fight more than most.

Aizawa and Hizashi stood up to greet them. "Hey you four." Aizawa started. His hair was tied up into a half bun and his eye bags had grown worse. Hizashi wasn't much better. Their normally boisterous and bright teacher had small dark circles of his own. His hair hung down, draping over his shoulders. The blonde teacher gave the four a small smile and wave. "Hizashi is going to stay in here with you four while you talk. Bakugo and I will wait with the others." Bakugo looked pissed at this information, but didn't protest.

Aizawa leaned in and hugged his husband tight. "I'll be right back. Want a tea?" Hizashi nodded. "Ok." He pecked him on the cheek and dragged Bakugo out of the room.

"Wow, it looks like you guys brought a lot of stuff for Izu." Hizashi said, breaking the silence. The four nodded. "Here, come sit." He directed them to the chairs around Izuku's bed.

They sat down and observed their friend. The cords going in every direction. The scars and bandages. Ururaka and Kirishima teared up a bit, remembering how they found Izuku.

"You know." The teacher started. "I never got to thank you guys for helping save Izuku." The students were taken aback by this. "I was barely able to keep it together while he was taken. I'm truly grateful for your help." He smiled at his students. They smiled back.

They began to chat, explaining to the sleeping Izuku the things that they brought for him and some of the highlights of school. Todoroki leaned forward, placing the stuffed animal in Izuku's arms. As he set it down, Izuku's arm tightened around the object. He let out a small groan, and his arm relaxed again.

A knock at the door signaled that it was time for the next group of four. They said their goodbyes and went to the waiting room.

After everyone had came in to visit, Izuku's room was a bit more bright. The class had brought cards, treats, books, and fake flowers for their friend. The visits continued for the next four days. Everyone came to visit each time. A few Pro's would even pop by every once in awhile. They talked to Izuku, trying to help him in any way they could.

On the fifth day, Izuku woke up.
