Chapter 28: The Forest
3rd POV
The night's antics began. The student's of 1A happily walking into the forest for their 'test of courage'. Bakugo had very strong opinions about being paired with Todoroki, especially since Midoriya didn't get a partner for the activity. After Izuku reassured him that he would be fine, the game started.
Izuku was standing in the open area, talking with Mandalay. He was analyzing her quirk, rambling about it's use and drawbacks when his eyes shifted to the tree line. He stopped mid sentence.
"Someone is here." He said in a stern and serious tone. As he said that, chaos erupted through the camp. Someone with green skin rushed into the clearing thrusting a giant sword forward. Izuku jumped to Mandalay, pushing her to the ground to dodge the attack.
"Who was that?!" She yelled. Tiger rushed over. As he did, another villain emerged from the shadows holding a large magnet.
"Isn't this the kid?" They asked, pointing to Izuku. Izuku looked to the green villain. He saw that the man had a lizard mutation and had a red cloth mask around his eyes.
"Yes Magne. That's the boy, but he's not who we're here for." His dark eyes shifted to Izuku. "Hey there kid, happen to know where Katsuki Bakugo is?" Izuku's eyes widened at the question.
What do they want with Kacchan? Who are these people? How do they know who I am?! Questions flew through Izuku's mind. He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He looked up and saw a light purple fog rising from the trees.
"Mandalay!" He shouted. "You need to call everyone back. They are after Kacchan and I think there are more villains in the forest!" He started rushing into the trees.
"Midoriya what are you doing!?" Tiger yelled after him.
"I need to go help! Please just alert everyone and quick!" With that, he threw himself into the woods.
Mandalay repeated the information. People soon came into the clearing where Mandalay and Tiger were fighting the two villains. The students were rushed inside by Aizawa.
"We are missing way too many students." He said to himself. "No one leaves. If you are attacked, defend yourself, but I repeat. NO ONE LEAVES." He sprinted out, assisting in the fight out front. "Mandalay!" He shouted, erasing the magnetism quirk. "There are too many students still out there. Tell them they can use their quirks to fight." She nodded and relayed the new message.
----
"Shit!" Bakugo yelled. "What's with this toothy freak! He's completely lost it!" He dodged as a sharp metal tooth attacked him. The blade lightly grazing his shoulder. "Fuck." He hissed.
"Bakugo! We need to go!" Todoroki shouted, he was carrying a student from 1B on his back. A wave of ice flew towards the villain.
The villain flung himself over the ice, slicing through it with his metallic teeth. He sent two long daggers flying directly towards the two conscious boys. Bakugo closed his eyes preparing for the pain. It never came. He opened an eye to see the 'tooth' shaking. It slowly started to bend and crumple. The villain let out a scream.
"You damn twerp!" Bakugo snapped his head around to find Izuku, Tokoyami, and Shoji. Izuku waived, as if he hadn't just broke a villain's teeth. The boy's white hair glistened in the moonlight. His smile was just as bright.
A noise brought him back to his senses and he saw Izuku's eyes sharpen. The small boy quickly lifted his hands. The broken pieces of ice melted into one floating pool of water. Izuku swiftly moved his arm in a fluid circular motion. The water swirled around the villain, pinning him to a tree. The water swirled around the trunk and froze. Leaving the villain stuck against the trunk.
Izuku lowered his hands and jogged up to the man who was now struggling in the ice, trying to chip away at his frozen prison. The small boy looked emotionless as he struck the man in the side of the neck, leaving him knocked out. He spun around facing his classmates again. Amazement was spread across their faces. Even Todoroki looked impressed. Up to this point, Izuku had informed everyone of his quirks, but he only ever used telekinesis around his classmates, unless Aizawa specified a quirk to be trained.
"Damn Izuku!" Shouted Bakugo.
"Who knew such a sweet smile could take out a villain with such ease." Said Tokoyami.
"Impressive." Shoji nodded at Midoriya. He gave them all a bashful smile.
"Haha thanks guys. Anyway, we need to get Bakugo to camp. Whoever these guys are, they want Kacchan." Everyone nodded, understanding the severity of the situation.
They were walking back in a tight group. Izuku was tense, glancing into the surrounding trees with his fists clenched. Tiny sparks flew from him every once in a while. Bakugo noticed. He removed his hand from his pocket and grabbed Izuku's. The small boy jumped slightly at the touch, looking at their hands as Bakugo interlocked their fingers. Izuku relaxed some, he no longer had any sparks, but he was still hyperaware of their surroundings.
A loud scream broke the groups silent walk. They all jumped at the sound trying to figure out where it came from. A weaker scream was heard. Izuku snapped his head, locating the sound.
"There." The group ran as Izuku lead them. They entered a small clearing and came to a halt. Tsu was stuck to a tree by her hair trying to kick free and Ururaka was being pinned down by someone sitting on her back. There was a syringe sticking out of her leg, filling with blood. Izuku's heart dropped. "T-t-to-ga?" He stuttered.
The uniformed girl spun around. Her eyes seemed to light up at the sight of Izuku. "Seven!" She screeched. Izuku flinched hard at the name.
"Fuck." Bakugo whispered, getting into a small fighting stance. She glared at the group, a sadistic smile grew across her face. Bringing her attention back to Izuku.
"I like the hair Number seven." She took a step forward. The whole group tensed. She let out a frustrated growl. "There are too many people here now." In an instant, she had plunged a new syringe into Bakugo and Todoroki, their blood trickling into the vials.
"NO!" Screamed Izuku.
"Don't worry Seven. I just want their blood." She said in a low voice. Bakugo ripped out the syringe and charged the blonde girl. She ducked around his attacks, gracefully collecting the syringe from Ururaka and Todoroki's legs. Bakugo let out an explosion at her feet. She jumped up, landing on her hands and pushing off the ground again. She leaned down and picked up her third vial. Smirking at the boy.
"Bakugo look out!" Shoji screamed. Suddenly Bakugo was transformed into a blue marble. As the marble fell, a gloved hand caught it.
"Come Toga. We now have the target." Izuku felt tears start to form in the corners of his eyes.
"No." He whispered. Toga darted into the forest, the magician took of in the same direction above the trees. Tsu had been released from the tree and was holding up Ururaka. Izuku spun around, a plan forming in his head. Todoroki and Shooji. I need you to use Todoroki's ice and follow Toga, fast. Tsu, take Ururarka back to camp. She looks like she might pass out. Tokoyami, you and I will go above the trees. I can manipulate the air to keep up up if you can steer." Everyone nodded.
They split off, following the villains and quickly gaining on them. "There he is!" Tokoyami yelled.
Izuku used a burst of energy to push them into the man who stole their friend, knocking the trio onto the ground with a heavy thud. Just as they landed, Toga entered the clearing. She was skipping forward when her foot got caught in ice. Todoroki and Shoji entered the clearing.
Villains started to surround them. Izuku recognized a few, but didn't know their names aside from Toga and Kurogiri. The marble rolled forward on the ground. Izuku noticed and dove towards it just as a new hand swiped it up. Shigiraki. Izuku thought.
The blue haired man towered over Izuku, laughing at the look on his former experiments face.
"Let him go." He said confidently.
"Ohhhh. Ballsy now aren't we Seven?"
"My name is Izuku!" He spat. The villains smile quickly faded.
"You lost that name when you were sold to us. Don't forget your place brat. Your own flesh and blood didn't want you so what makes you think a bunch of children would treat you any better?" His words stung Izuku. It was the thought he had been pushing down for so long.
"Y-you're wrong!" He shot back. Shigiraki could tell his words were getting to the boy trembling infront of him.
He lifted the marble to his face, gently holding it between two finger tips. "You know Izuku, I plan on making Bakugo my newest experiment." Izuku's tears were falling down his face. Behind him, his classmates tried to get to him. "Don't you move or Bakugo dies." They froze in place as Shigiraki placed another finger on the marble.
"D-d-don't hurt him. P-please!" Shigiraki could now see the boys obvious feelings for his hostage. He had leverage.
"What?" He said mockingly. "Don't tell me you actually care for this oversized Pomeranian!" The villains snickered behind him. Izuku stayed silent, not wanting to give out anymore information. "No. You don't just care for him...." He leaned in close. "You love him, don't you." He said in a low menacing voice.
Izuku was trying to hold back his sobs. His eyes filled with fear for his lover. Shigiraki placed another finger on the marble. "NOOO!" Izuku screamed, green lightning sparking around him.
"Oh, poor Number seven," He taunted, starting to circle the kneeling boy. "Why would anyone want to be with something so broken." He placed a foot on the boys back and shoved him to the ground.
"You bastard! Leave him alone!" Todoroki yelled. Toga had gotten free and was holding the two at knife point. Tokoyami was being held back by a muscular man with one eye. He was straining against the giant mans grip. He let out a grunt as the mans grip tightened against his arm, threatening to break it.
Izuku got up from the ground, trying to steady his shaking legs. Determination flashed in his eyes. "Let them go." He said sternly.
"Not a chance." Just like that, Izuku was charged at by three villains. He lifted the ground around him, causing it to break open and the villains to fall uncomfortably into the cracks. The man that had been holding Tokoymai came at Midoriya, wildly throwing a punch aimed at his head. Midoriya crouched down, as his hand touched the ground, a faint white glow came up from the cracks in the earth, followed by large intertwining vines that now secured the three villains into the earth. He jumped back again and activated Erasure, the mans muscles shooting back into his body. The tall man let out a loud grunt of pain. Izuku sensed someone behind him and quickly ducked a swinging knife.
Toga thrusted a knife forward, jabbing at him continuously. The other man had gained his composure and came rushing at the small boy again. Izuku put out an hand, green bolts running down the length of his arm. He sent a burst of energy towards the man, flying him into a rock on the other side of the clearing rendering him unconscious. Toga slashed at him again, this time lightly grazing his cheek. He shot down, spinning his legs around to knock her from where she stood. She hit the ground as Izuku touched her leg quickly and adjusted her gravity. She let out a small puff of air as the earth around her sunk in a bit. Her hair flattening from the heavy gravity.
Izuku took a step back, panting. Shigiraki was still in the clearing holding Bakugo in his marbled form. Compress stood next to him. He looked around knowing that Kurogiri was still a threat. He frantically looked around, trying to decide what the best move was. His sparks started to grow again. His breath caught and he began to cough. "Shit! No. Not now." He didn't mean to say that out loud, which Shigiraki found very amusing.
"Now." He said. With Izuku distracted by his coughing, he didn't even notice the purple portal opening behind him.
"Izuku look out!" Tokoyami yelled. Izuku's eyes widened and he spun around ending up face to face with Kurogiri. He quickly lifted his sparking hand to push him back, only for a large metal bracelet to get latched onto his wrists, a thick metal chain connected the wrists. The lightning died.
"No." He said. Tears freely falling. He heard distant yelling and noticed the blurry outline of a few people. He quickly turned his attention to Shigiraki who gave him a vicious smirk. Izuku's heart dropped. He lunged forward, trying to get to Bakugo only to feel the chains of his new restraints being pulled. The hard pull knocked him to the ground, hitting his chin on the earth. He looked up and saw Shigiraki place his last finger on the small marble. It fell to pieces and blew away with the breeze.
Izuku knew he was screaming, but he couldn't hear it. His screaming and sobs filled the area. He darted up and charged at Shigiraki before he could be pulled down again. He threw his fists at the man who dodged swiftly, smiling at the sight before him.
The three students charged the two fighting. The crusty blur haired man quickly reacted, pulling Izuku by his chains and wrapping his hand around the boys throat, one finger left lingering above the skin. "One step closer, and you'll be losing more than one student tonight." He said with a vicious sneer. Izuku was sobbing in his captors grip. His mind clouded with pain and sorrow.
"Izu!" The white haired boy looked across the clearing, seeing Aizawa come into the light.
"D-dad!" He yelled, his voice breaking. He reached an arm out towards him. Shirgiraki, unpleased with the sight, tightened his grip on the boys throat and violently grabbed his outstretched arm. Izuku let out a blood curdling scream as the skin on his arm peeled away into the air, leaving the muscle exposed to the brisk night air. It seems the effect was cut short and Izuku pulled his arm back to his chest quickly, he was now struggling to breathe.
"Let him go Shigiraki!" Aizawa shouted. His eyes were glowing red and his hair was floating above him. The villain growled in frustration.
"Kurogiri. It's time we go." Purple warps started opening, grabbing the villains that were stuck in the clearing. A gate opened behind Shigiraki and the magician. "We got what we came here for." He said evilly.
Izuku locked eyes with his father, not knowing what would happen next. "Dad." He choked out. Shigiraki growled again, throwing the boy into the purple mist.
"NO! IZUKU!" Everyone shouted. Compress and Shigiraki started to back into the portal.
"Oh, before we go." Started the magician, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out another marble. Everyone's eyes locked onto it. "You can have this back now. It's served it's purpose." He flicked it into the air. It landed on the ground and with a small puff of smoke, it turned back into Bakugo.
"Bakugo!" Shoji and Aizawa rushed to him as he stood up, grabbing his head in pain. Shigiraki's sickening laugh sent shivers down their spines as the two became engulfed by purple.
"You bastard!" Aizawa shot out his capture weapon in an attempt to grab one of the two escaping villains. It didn't work, the purple smoke vanished as the scarf reached where they once were. Silence filled the area. Tears began to fall from Aizawa's eyes, staring at the spot in the air where his son was just pushed through.
Todoroki fell to the ground, lightly shaking as tears trickled down his face. Tokoyami began to struggle to keep Dark shadow at bay, his emotions boiling to the surface as tears lined his face. Shoji's fists were clenched in rage, the tall boy shaking in frustration, his eyes watering slightly.
Bakugo scanned the reactions of his classmates. "You guys," He said softly. His voice broken ever so slightly. "W-where is Izuku?" A single tear fell down his cheek as he was met with silence.
Izuku was gone.
