Chapter 15: UA

-The next day-

Izuku POV

I woke up to Zashi softly knocking on the door. I looked at my clock and it read 6:00.

"Hey little listener, breakfast is ready." I sat up rubbing the sleep from my eyes. Looking at Zashi with dread in my stomach.

"Zashi, do I have to?" I whine. I go red realizing what I had just done. "Hizashi! Not Zashi! I'm so sorry, I didn't mean t-" He cut me off with a smile.

"Hey, it's ok, you can call me Zashi if you want, I don't mind. And yes, you gotta try for me. Pluuus, if you come down for breakfast you can have some coffeeee." He said the last part in a sing song voice. He knows I have a thing for coffee now, taking after my sleep deprived parent.

I walk down in my pajamas, shyly sitting at the table. Aizawa is there reading some files. He looks up and ruffles my hair. Zashi hands me a plate with toast and an egg, along with a cup of coffee.

"You know Sho. Your coffee addiction is already spreading to poor Izu." He says turning back to the stove. Zawa chuckles.

I look up at Zashi, shocked to hear the name he just used. I was flooded with forgotten memories. Happy ones. Ones of my mother. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. Zashi turns back around to see me silently crying.

"Woah, woah, Izuku what's the matter?" Rushing to my side he gently brushed my hair behind my ear.

"I-it's j-just... m-my mom used to c-call me Izu."

"I'm sorry. I should have asked."

"N-no, it.. it's ok. I like it." I give them a reassuring smile and wipe the tears from my face.

"Alright then, Izu."

------

I run upstairs and begin to change. I throw on a black turtleneck shirt and wear my uniform on top of it. I walk into the bathroom and look in the mirror. The collar of the turtleneck covers most of my neck, leaving only a few of them poking out. I look at my face and sigh, lightly touching the giant scar across my dull green eye. I hope today goes ok.

I fight with my hair for a bit and soon it's time to leave. We are heading to the school early so I can meet with Nezu.

After a short drive, we arrive at the massive school.

"Alright, you ready to meet with Nezu?" I look at Zawa and give him a confident nod.

We enter Nezu's office and I see a small creature sitting in an oversize office chair. He seems to be a small bear of sorts. "Welcome Izuku Midoriya!" The creature says cheerfully. "I'm Nezu, I'm sure your fathers informed you that I'll be giving you a test of sorts this morning before classes."

I nodded. Nezu smiled at me softly. Turing to my parents, the principle said "Ok, well you two must need to prepare for classes. Aizawa, once Izuku and I are done, I'll bring him to your classroom." They gave a small bow and waived goodbye as they exited. I was a little sad to see them leave.

"Well then," Nezu spun of his heel, returning his gaze to me. "Let's get started."

------

For the next hour and a half, Nezu gave me tests on different subjects ranging in difficulty. None of them took longer than 10 minutes and Nezu seemed to be impressed. After that, he tested me on strategy and battle analysis. He looked genuinely shocked at how quickly and easily I was about to come up with strategies. Lastly, he had me demonstrate my quirks for him. I explained the situation on the last quirk and how we don't exactly know what it is yet. He nodded.

I felt calm around Nezu. He explained to me that he had also gone through horrible experimentation. I think knowing that someone kind of understands what I've been through was comforting. With a few minutes before the first bell, Nezu challenged me to a game of chess.

This quickly became my favorite game. Nezu struggled to think around my strategy as I was ablt to quickly adapt to all of his tricks. The game ended. I won. Nezu was visibly frustrated at his loss. I chuckled a little at the sight. He sat up and smiled. "Ok young Midoriya, you ready to meet your classmates?"

I take a deep breath in and nod. We walk down the halls and reach a large door reading 1-A.

Nezu knocks on the door and we hear a voice greet us to enter. I see Zawa standing at a podium in front of his class. "Ah, perfect timing." Zawa has his class talk amongst themselves and he walks over to us. "How did it go?"

"He won our game of chess." Nezu says, still slightly bitter at the loss. I let out a giggle as Zawa looks at me with wide eyes. "Anyway, I feel he will do well in your class. I would also like to request that him and I have regular matches of chess. I need to redeem myself." We both nod and Nezu leaves the room.

I feel my heart begin to race as Zawa walks me towards the podium at the front of the class. I had noticed the other students watching me since I walked in with Nezu. I kept getting a threatening glare from a boy with blonde hair and red eyes. He seemed familiar, but I couldn't figure out why. I tried to shrug it off, telling myself that I was just nervous.

"Listen up." Zawa grabbed the attention of the class, everyone settling down and facing the teacher. "As you can see, we have a new student. Although we are a few weeks into the year, I expect you all to be welcoming. If not, there will be hell to pay." He looked my way. "Go ahead and introduce yourself."

I nodded and took a shaky step forward. "H-hello. Uh, m-my name is Numner Sev-. Sorry, I mean. My name is I-izuku Midoriya. It's n-nice to meet you all." I could feel my heart pounding. All eyes were on me. More specifically, a certain pair of red eyes were staring at me, eyes wide and... watering?

The blonde boy from earlier stood up abruptly. I flinched at the sudden sound,  "DEKU?!" My eyes grew wide. I recognized the nickname. Why do I know that name?

I looked at him, I felt mixed emotions looking at the boy. "D-do I k-know you? You seem familiar." The boy looked a little hurt by my statement. "I-i'm sorry. I didn't m-mean to hurt you."

"You don't remember me? We were friends. We've known each other since we were little kids. Deku, i-it's me. It's Kacchan." I flinched at the name, green sparks dancing across my body in that instant. Kacchan. Memories flooded back to me. Our friendship as children, the bullying in elementary school, the abuse from home, the conflicted feelings I had for the boy.

I felt tears start to fall from my eyes. "K-kacchan. Is it r-really you?" The blonde violently nodded, the tears he was fighting started pouring over.

3rd POV

Backugo stared at his childhood friend, shocked. Tears started felling from his face, but he didn't care. His classmates looked at him completely stunned. Backugo hadn't shown any other emotion than anger in the few weeks that they had known him. Now, this small green haired boy had him crying with just a few words.

A few students in the class noticed small sparks of green lightning emitting from the boy. Aizawa noticed too. He snapped into action, trying to get ahead of the boys panic attack.

"Hey, kid. Breathe. It's alright, ok?" The man shook the boy from his trance and the sparks stopped. "Hey, are you alright?" The boy nodded and composed himself.

Backugo, who was still standing spoke up again. "Deku, what happened to you?" This question got the attention of the already confused class. Izuku felt all eyes on him.

"Uh- well, y-you see, m-my my fath-ther, he s-sent me to l-live with s-some of h-his friends for awhile." They boy lied and put on a fake smile. He wasn't ready to talk about this with people, let alone reveal his backstory to all his new classmates. He hadn't even told his new parents the full story yet. Backugo knew it wasn't the whole truth, but decided not to pry. Not yet.

"O-ok then. Uh, well today we have quirk training, I want everyone to go change and meet at the training grounds."

With that, one by one each student walked out, Backugo paused by the door and decided to talk to the greenette.

"H-hey." He was looking down at his shoes. "I just wanted to tell you... I-i'm really happy you're back. I've... I've missed you." He tilts his head up, looking Izuku in the eyes. The red eyed boy had light blush growing on his cheeks. He walked off before Izuku could respond.

Aizawa looked at his son. "Hey, kid. You sure you're going to be ok?"

Izuku looked at his dad with a bright hopefull smile. "I'll be ok." Aizawa smiled his son. Proud of the strength he had.

"Ok then. Go get changed. I'll show you where the locker rooms are." He handed Izuku a gym uniform and his athletic turtleneck as they walked down the hall.

-----

Izuku POV

We arrive at the lockers rooms and go our separate ways. As I walk in I see most of the boys already changing. I walk past them looking for somewhere to change. I don't want them to see my collar or my scars. I quickly walk into a stall at the back of the locker room and change as quickly as I can.

As I exit the stall, I get some weird looks from a few of my classmates. My face heats up as I try to ignore their stares. I place my folded clothes on a bench realizing I don't have a locker yet. I sense someone approaching me in my blind spot and move my arm away before they can touch me.

"H-hey, what are you doing?" I ask, trying not to let my voice shake. I see a boy with two toned hair looking at me plainly.

"The scars on your hands. They're pretty interesting. What are they from?"

A red head with spiky hair speaks up before I can answer. "Hey Todoroki! That's not very manly of you. You can't just ask people stuff like that." The boy's multicolored eyes look unfazed, waiting for a response.

"Th-th-they are f-from my quirk." I say, now holding my hands to my chest, trying to hide them in my sleeves. The Todoroki boy looks down at my hands again. Satisfied with my answer, he walks out of the room.

"Hey, nerd." Kacchan says. He was standing close by. "I thought you were quirkless."

I feel my breath catch. Everyone is looking at me now. I start to get angry. I didn't survive that hell just to be called quirkless again. My expression changes and I feel my eyes grow cold.

"Well things have changed, Kacchan."
