Indian Society

The newspaper today brought in a shock- a girl committed suicide because her marks went down. The pathetic state of Indian Society! Parents pressurise them so much that at one point of time they feel quitting the world forever as the only option! Seriously!

Mounting pressure, excruciating agony
A time when numbers on paper define us
When less, cast away like a waste of space
When high, crowned like a deserving princess

Laurels, medals pictures position in society
All she wants is a little love, a listening ear
Someone to pull her into a hug, hold her close
Someone to say "All is well" and wipe her tear

So she works, night and day, not complaining
Equations and solutions haunted her dreams
Secretly she craved, crying silently
Hoping her pillow would muffle her screams.

Loneliness grapples and fear rules
She wears a mask pretending to be okay
While she longs for someone to understand
Someone to pat her, to keep her fears at bay.

A little more love we need, a little more heart
Someone, may be just one, to push us with genuine care
But only when she has decided to bid her final farewell
Do we realize the world is cruel and unfair.

Wake up, oh dear parents, wake up
Figures on her paper may exalt you in the society
Yet, when she chooses to breathe her last
For you, only then it shall be a brutal reality.

Give her the love she yearns for,
Lend her your listening ear, your gentleness
Envelope her in your loving arms
See her flying high with success, you with happiness.
