Chaper 4
RNC was known for its punctuality so anyone that was found coming late to school would be severely punished.
Now the punishment in RNC was like a correction because really most people didn't see it as a punishment. Instead of cutting grasses or getting lashes of the cain like other schools, RNC's punishment was simply to go into the coffee shop which was owned by the school to volunteer there as a coffee maker during the two breaks.
The fun part about the work was, if you were a good coffee maker, you could be given tips (little money) by customers who comes from outside to have some coffee.
Most people usually looked forward to walking in this shop and sometimes intentionally comes late.
The thing about it was that, this idea was suggested by the previous head girl so the school was looking forward to continuing it even in the regime of the new head girl.
Jane made her way towards where the latecomers were situated.
Getting there, she found smiles on their faces as they already knew what punishment they were going to be given but as soon as the smiles came, it disappeared when Jane told the labour prefects to write down all their names and take them to the large football field to begin work.
It was like a blow to their expectations and Jane had to speak up.
"What were you all expecting, why are your mouths hanging open? Do you really think I will ask you to go to work in the coffee shop like Judith the previous head girl had done? Well sorry to bust your bubbles o, may I remind you that Judith isn't the head girl any longer and I Jane Akintade is now the one in charge?
Do not be surprise. Now each and everyone of you, put down your names and follow the labour prefects to the field to work.
Mind you, if I hear from them that one of you dares runs to your class or didn't comply especially you this ss1 and 2, I will see to it that I punish you myself.
Before I go, where is Chika Somto the labour prefect junior," she asked looking around.
"I am here senior Jane," chika replied.
"Okay so, I need you to follow the senior labour prefect Sonia to conduct their punishments."
"Yes senior Jane," replied chika.
"Everybody let's get moving right now," Sonia had ordered.
"Anyone I see backing out will be dealt with and would be giving double portion.
Now all boys are to go and meet the labour prefect boy, Ekene Matthew as he would be the one to conduct your punishment and all the girls are to follow me, I'm I understood?" Shouted Sonia.
"Yes senior Sonia," they all replied.
After Jane had made sure that the latecomers were taking care of already, she made her wat to go to class.
She had intentionally passed by the ss2 block and was surprise to see that they were all gathered watching something.
Immediately she entered ss2 B class, they all hurried to their seats pretending to be doing nothing. They had heard what happened earlier to the latecomers from one of their classmate and due to that, they pretended to have actually been doing nothing.
"Why were you all gathered in that part of the classroom?" Jane asked looking at them suspiciously.
Ade one of the class girls decided to answer.
"Jane we weren't doing anything o, we were just gisting."
"Eh Ade what did you just call me?" Jane asked.
"I said Jane." Ade replied.
Gbam! "Jane slapped her face.
How dare you call me your head girl by name without putting senior beside it," she asked the already sobbing girl.
"B...but that is wh...what we normally call you, and you use to answer." Ade replied.
" well that was then when I was still in ss2 like you are now, but now I am in ss3, you have no right to call me by my name and by the way that phone you all were stirring at, hand it over to me right now." She ordered.
One of the class boys who was Bamidele by name stood up to speak this time around.
"Eh why did you now have to slap her na. If it was the phone you wanted, you should have just asked for it and we would have given it to you not you slapping her," he said.
" who asked for your opinion on this matter? Are you out of you mind or something? Se o ponu ni? ( Are you mad) in your life, I repeat in your life don't ever pur your dirty mouth in what does not concern you. Now hand that phone over to me," she finally said.
As soon as she got the phone, she put it inside her pocket and left the class.
Every member of that class were just looking at each other wondering what was up with their once friendly senior who changed over night.
