Existentialism: The Car
There’s something distinctly relaxing about riding in a car on a rainy day. Maybe it’s the repetitive rhythm of the wipers flinging miniscule water droplets from view, or possibly the spray if mist kicked up by passing vehicles. Could it be the accumulation of the rain on a window, slowly being pushed away from view by the heavy gusts of wind, or the flashing lights of lamps and houses, watching from the distance? The forces of nature and technology in a constant battle for supreme reign. It’s almost soothing, to observe such an icredible battle from the safety of a car, comforting, if you will. Each car has its own story, same goes for each passenger, a mutually beneficial relationship. Will the humans of the future learn to value these small gifts like we have before them? I imagine the rain as a constant reminder of what we as a species take for granted. All these opportunities at our fingertips, but we still leave the important things to be discovered by someone more “qualified” or intelligent than ourselves. Such an idealism crates a chain, or loop, where the human race continually belittles these important problems and concerns in our society has and leaves said problems to be solved by someone else, when truly they could fix that problem, but are too lazy to do so. It seems as if we use the excuse of technology as an insulator, or protector, from the truth of the matter, like we take the protection of a car in the rain for granted, completely disrrgarding the ongoing struggles raging just outside our grasp, beyond what we chose to see in life. The moral of the lesson is thus, chose to acknowledge those little raindrops, never forget their memories, pay close attention to the world around you and expose yourself to it’s unconditional chaotic nature. Rely on yourself, and trust in those small happenings in life. Help change the conditions of the world, to better the chosen path of humanity. Perhaps it may only take a single person to defy the loop, and to forever change the cycle of the demise of humankind.
