002: sweet ice cream and bitter arguments
Calum and Core walked hand in hand as they stepped away from the ice cream shop.
A few fans cooed from a distance, waving their hands at the smaller boy, to which he waved his ice cream cone shyly back at them.
Calum chuckled and shook his head, lightly squeezing his son's hand. "You're ready for Hollywood, bub." He said as Core looked up at him. The little one giggled, sticking his tongue out and taking a lick of his ice cream.
They arrived to the Jeep, quickly getting inside since a crowd of fans were forming around the parlor. When he strapped in the man dialed up his personal guard, who was parked a car down from him and told him to keep close as he drove home.
Well, to Astrid's place.
The two agreed whenever he came to LA for a break or whatever the case may be, that he could stay in her place.
It made his visitation easier for them as a family and it helped her out personally because she could work or go out and Calum was right there to watch Core.
Also, she said she didn't want Core knowing that anything is wrong between them.
So, even though it annoyed her and many people called her dumb for it, she allowed him open access to her apartment.
Though it was small and less extravegant than his own, he didn't mind.
One, he was able to be with Core whenever he had the chance to.
Two, he was able to be with the one girl who had his heart, Astrid Marie Davidson.
Calum smiled from just the thought of the woman. But then it faltered shortly after.
He felt terrible for how he treated the girl while she was pregnant.
Given, he didn't know she was carrying his child at the moment. Neither did she, that's why she wasn't extremely affected by what Calum did to her. She figured he was creeping around because he's in a pretty big band.
So, she knew the groupies would come sooner or later.
But then, while she was two months pregnant, barely showing, and decided to take a trip to the doctors for a check-up, she decided she was going to be both angry and bitter.
But she had every right too, even Calum agreed, considering the situation.
See, Astrid asked Calum, during the beginning of the ROWYSO tour, if he was messing around with their support band's drummer, Nia Lovelis.
He was quick to deny it and the girl ran with it though she felt he wasn't telling the whole truth.
Come to find out, he wasn't telling the truth at all!
Not only was he messing around with her but he had the nerve to be taking pictures with the broad, basically throwing it in Astrid's face.
A few weeks later, after her check up, everything started to run through the girl's mind. And she became mad when the thought of Calum and Nia hooking up crossed her mind.
So, she did what every angry woman would do...
Expose him on social media and then tell him about himself by blowing his phone up.
Then to top it off with a cherry, she ended her elongated texts with 'oh and guess what? I'm pregnant!'.
Calum remembered that day crystal clear. He had ignored her texts that day, annoyed by the ongoing dings. But for some reason he decided to check his phone and when he did, that last text was the first thing he saw.
His heart dropped and knees buckled, causing him to stumble into the couch. He sat in complete shock, not even able to voice what was wrong when he was asked.
That was the day he'll never forget but it made him a better man.
Calum shook the thought from his head when he heard the voice of his son.
"Mumma 'ome!" The toddler nearly jumped from his seat, pointing out the window. Calum smiled, turning down the familiar street. He gave a quick wave to the guard following him and parallel parked near the apartment building.
He jumped out, noticing Astrid's car parked infront of his. The man sighed, remembering what he had to tell her.
"Come on, bub." Calum said, motioning for the boy to unstrap himself from his carseat. The little one did and held his arms open for Calum to pick him up.
The maori man held the boy on his side and toted his Spiderman backpack on the opposite shoulder. Core nuzzled his face into his father's neck as they got to the door and entered the apartment.
The soft sounds of Anita Baker took over the space and danced to his ears. He closed the door behind them and dropped the colorful backpack to the ground.
"Mommy, daddy's home!" Calum smirked, calling out to the girl. His son giggled and made a funny face his way.
"Mumma no your mumma." Core said, gaining a chuckle from Calum.
Before he could reply, a door opened and the music quietened. He glanced up and his brown eyes widened slightly at the sight.
Astrid was sporting nothing but a towel and dripping wet hair, obviously just coming out of the shower.
She had her head down, re-tying her towel on her chest. "Boy, you know better than to--" Her head picked up from the fabric around her to her ex and the small boy on his side.
Astrid smiled then furrowed her brows. "Core, baby, what are you doing home so early?" She gave Calum a look then approached them, reaching a hand up to her son's cheek.
"Did daddy get you out early?" She asked the boy sweetly, giggling when he made grabby hands at her. Calum's face dropped a bit as he handed the boy over to Astrid.
"Uh, yeah. I got him out early and we got some ice cream." Calum carefully explained. Astrid furrowed her brows, eyes moving up to Calum.
The man noticed and motioned for Core. She passed him over and he gently let him down. He then bent at his knees to come into eye level with the small boy.
"Mumma and daddy are gonna talk big people stuff so go play in your room, okay bub?" Calum asked, smiling down at his son. The little one nodded and kissed his father's cheek. Before walking away he kissed his mum's leg then ran off into his room.
The two giggled and Calum slowly stood to his full height. "Man, I love that kid so much."
Astrid frowned at his voice and folded her arms over her chest. "Why did you get him out early and why was he given ice cream before noon?" She questioned and Calum rolled his eyes.
He couldn't stand how strict Astrid was when it came to Core.
She literally made a list of things he wasn't allowed to do when he was around Core. Along with a list of rules she set for the boy.
One of those rules Calum usually ignored.
The one about no sweets before noon.
"Astrid, he's three years old and he's a healthy kid with strong teeth, thanks to me, so a little sugar wouldn't hurt 'em." Calum shrugged as if it was that simple. He knew very well that that wasn't it.
And in fact he knew the girl was going to let him have it.
Not like he wasn't used to it anyway.
Astrid dropped her arms and narrowed her eyes up at him, taking a step closer as she spoke.
"First of all, you dont get a say-so, because guess what? When you were out there selling out shows, I was busy taking care of my son." Astrid spat, gaining a snort from Calum as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Second of all, we've had this discussion tume and time again--"
"And just like every other time it's a complete waste." Calum intercepted, rolling his eyes and heading for the kitchen. Astrid followed behind, moving faster to stop him in his tracks. She got in front of him and pointed a finger.
"I'm not done talking to you!"
"But I'm done with this conversation, Marie."
"Ain't that too bad because last time I checked you were just now stepping up when it comes to Core yet you feel you're done with this conversation?"
"Astrid, stop making it seem like I purposely left you with Core! You didn't even tell me you were pregnant until after the tour started so save that 'you're a bad father' act. I love my son." He opened the fridge once he got passed the girl. She felt like she was on fire, nothing but the usual whenever she talked to Calum.
It's like that bitterness she felt while she was pregnant always resurfaced as soon as he opens his mouth.
She closed the fridge door and stood in front of it. "I know you love Core, Calum! That's why you're not getting robbed a couple thousand dollars for child support. But my point is you weren't there from jump really, though I know you didn't want it to be that way." Astrid explained, watching as he took a sip from the water bottle he was able to get before she closed the fridge.
She licked her lips and continued. "So, with that being said, I have rules set up for my child's safety, whether physically, emotionally, medically, etc. And it'd be a lot smoother if you'd just comply instead of go against." Astrid said, her voice a lot quieter as she calmed down.
Calum nodded as he placed the bottle down on the counter. "Alright. M'sorry, babe." He let the word that made Astrid roll her eyes slip out of his flirtacious mouth.
"Stop calling me that." Astrid groaned, holding the towel up more on her body.
Calum smirked and sized her up and down, causing her to roll her browns yet again. "Why I can't call you that?...With y'fine self." He winked, stepping closer to the girl.
Astrid made a 'tuh' noise and put a hand up to his face, making him bump into it.
"Boy, please, goodbye." Astrid turned on her heel, walking over to Core's room. Calum watched her walk away, biting at his fist because man did that girl have a body on her.
"Core, put those toys down. Mumma's gotta take 'em for a day." Astrid said once she opened his door. Calum could hear the little boy whine and he knotted his bushy pair together.
"What? Why?" He asked, stepping out of the kitchen. The girl snorted and raised a brow at the brown man.
"Mama Dean told me everything before I got into the shower," She turned to make sure the toddler was gathering his toys, which he was, sadly. Calum's mouth dropped and he had to blink just to make sure this was real life.
"So, I knew why he was released early. I just wanted to see if you'd lie, since you have a history of doing that, but surprisingly you didn't." She finished, sarcastically clapping and throwing on a fake smile.
Calum chuckled dryly, regretting making a deal with Gladys when he knew all she'd do is open her gossiping mouth. But once the joke cleared the air, the brown boy felt he had to get something off his chest.
"Astrid, you know I'm sorr--"
"Sorry?" The girl interrupted, seeming completely amused by his words. "For the lying or the cheating?" She asked, raising both of her sculpted brows. Just when he was going to answer, Core appeared next to his mom.
"I clean, mumma. No more Spiderman." He said with a frown. Astrid looked away from her ex and chuckled lightly down at the boy.
"Okay, let's go take you a bath so you can have lunch." She said and the little one nodded, taking her hand and walking to the stairs.
Calum sighed, feeling deflated but not defeated.
If it was the last thing he did, he will get Astrid to forgive him.
He had to right his wrongs because this is where he truly belonged.
With her...and his son.
He glanced up at the two climbing up the stairs and smiled.
Yeah, he needed to get his girl back and by all means, that was exactly what he was going to do.
This ending was kind of...messy idk i hope it wasn't too bad! Lol
