"We should head up and see what it is"!
"No we can't"!
Dara pouted mockingly and folded her arms, though Kiet remained firm with his own argument. It wasn't that he didn't agree with his sister's plan, but the situation was way out of their league at the moment and so they had to stay out of it, which Dara was not agreeing with.
The Chaos Insurgency had chosen a particularly bad time to raid Site-19, what with nearly three quarters of the staff-guards included-on leave for the summer. It was only thanks to the SCPs on site that luck was on their side at the moment, but given the nature of the Chaos Insurgency, no one was sure if they could hold them off long enough.
The twins were currently in one of the many bunkers underneath the facility, hiding out the chaos above with a few other members of personnel and D-Class who had been fortunate enough to escape when the jail bars had been broken during the raid, the latter surprisingly cooperative at the moment. Kiet had grabbed most of their things to occupy themselves in the bunker, while Dara had just about managed to lug down some snacks from the pan-dimensional vending machine and was now munching on the ones that remained after distributing the rest to the scared personnel in the bunker with them.
"Squid and shacha sauce"? Kiet mused as he read the chips packet that Dara was carefully tearing open.
"Its pretty good once you get used to it", the girl purred, then handed a crumby chip to her brother. "Try it"!
Reluctantly, Kiet popped the chip into his mouth and chewed on it twice before swallowing. A strong taste of roasted squid lingered down his throat, coupled with the sourish hint from the chilli powder that the chips had been mixed with. It was hard to guess that it tasted like squid, though he supposed that squid could roasted in other ways as well.
"Should we probably head up"? Dara asked, glancing at the ceiling of the bunker as she wolfed down the chips. "Mom might need our help".
"I say its best if we left her to handle it herself for now", Kiet assured his sister. "She's capable of handling these jokers herself. A team helping her wouldn't make much difference".
"Man, I wish I could be an MTF guard one day", Dara murmured dreamily.
"Given your eagerness to charge into a fight every so often, I'm not surprised", Kiet commented, though his tone remained stern. "But you'll have to get used to carrying out orders to the T, and that's not always pleasant".
"Hey, so long as its reasonable, right"? Dara added with a pleading look.
Images flooded Kiet's mind at that statement. Memories of when she had broken protocol many times for the good of others. To save him from being eaten by the Aristocrats, to haul his frozen ass out of an icy cave, to keep him from turning into a zombie, to ensure he had a supply of food and water when they had been stranded one time.
"I suppose that depends on the rules themselves", he finally said at length. "But at the same time, you still have to follow through with them if you're not sure about the mission".
"Sure", Dara purred, then abandoned her chip packet to snuggle up with her brother.
