would you get upset?

" I'VE BEEN SLEEPING WITH
YOUR BEST FRIEND, "

"are you okay?"
midoriya didn't look up at todoroki as he scrolled through something on his phone, "you keep asking me that," he mumbled, frowning slightly. midoriya tugged on his curls gently, "it's been like, four days of you asking."
todoroki shrugged, "you look a bit restless." he said carefully. "and, you seem... like something's on your mind."
midoriya sighed, not saying anything and keeping his eyes on his device.
todoroki bit his lip. midoriya's mood had been getting progressively worse throughout the week. and because of that, he had to be more careful with y/n in the dorms, until eventually, they just stopped hooking up because they couldn't risk it.
midoriya wasn't giving anything away that pointed to him knowing about y/n and todoroki, other than his behaviour so he had no idea what to do. and with the conversation he and bakugou a few days prior, he was more paranoid than ever.
it was a guessing game and he despised guessing.
"i for one have something on my mind!" iida said, across from todoroki, raising his glasses. "cereal prices. why is cereal so expensive? it isn't good for you and they aren't even deluxe boxes! what makes it cost so much?"
"i quite like cereal, i'd pay the money," todoroki said quietly, taking a small handful of dry cereal from his bowl. "i'm not sure, though."
"maybe it's because they can get away with it. raising the prices," midoriya offered with a shrug.
iida shifted interested, gesturing for his friend to continue, which midoriya happily did so.
"sometimes the prices go up because of grain and agricultural policies and the increase of fiscal varietes. but- they raise the price, consumers keep buying, so they keep going. i think it's unwise to push how far they can go, though. eventually, people will catch on to what they're doing and boycott." midoriya turned his friend to todoroki, "right, shouto? would you get upset if you found out what cereal companies were doing?"
why did that sound so condescending? especially since it was coming from midoriya- who todoroki believed wasn't even capable of being such. was he expecting todoroki to get what he was trying to say under the cover of cereal?
or was todoroki just looking into it too much. he tensed, taking another hand full of cereal, "sure." he said simply. "i would boycott."
it was quiet for a moment, "okay," midoriya said softly before he midoriya pushed away from the table and grabbed his bag, "i'm going to class."
"that's an interesting way to look at things," iida furrowed his brows in thought. "i do believe that explains melon prices- especially when they're in season!"
"did izuku seem tense, to you?" todoroki couldn't help but suddenly ask, pulling at his sleeve. "did something happen?"
iida tilted his head, "perhaps. he's acting similar to... when he feels overhwhemed about something! or when he has no control over the current events in his life. he's overthinking things, you should talk to him!" iida began waving his hands around in stiff chopping motions, "midoriya sometimes gets anxious about situations and i believe his closest friend would be the most beneficial to him at this time to help him through it!"
unless said closest friend was the cause of the problem- is what he didn't say out loud.
"todoroki," todoroki turned around at the use of his name to see you making your way over to him, rubbing one of your brows stressfully, "walk to class with me?"
with the way midoriya was acting and the current state of things... todoroki shook his head, "i don't think that's-"
"i said walk to class with me," you grabbed his arm and snatched him up from where he sat. todoroki made a panicked noise before pulling his arm away and walking on his own. when the both of you stepped out of the building, you sighed, "have you talked to izuku?"
todoroki pursed his lips, but nodded. "yes. uhm. i tried." he pulled on the fabric of his uniform. "he was acting strange. i think he knows something's up. or, he probably definitely knows."
discussion whatever was happening between the three of you became normal. not a normal that todoroki liked at all, but necessary. and the final conclusion was midoriya most likely knew something was up and todoroki figured the best bet would just be to give it up and tell him the truth.
you, however, pulled on your lip, turning to the peppermint teen, "you need to let him know nothing's going on. like, reassure him or something,"
todoroki's eyes widened before he shook his head, "no. i'm not doing that. if we're going to tell him anything, we'll tell him the truth. it's izuku. the longer we wait and the more dishonest we are to him..."
"you're telling me you'll be able to deal with the aftermath that comes with telling him?" you countered with a huff. "he's gonna be mad. have you ever experienced izuku being mad at you? it means you really fucked up. not a good experience, two out of ten would not recommend, todoroki-"
"so what? we just keep lying?" todoroki rubbed his hand against his face stressfully. "l/n i don't... i don't want to. we can't." and they really couldn't - or at least todoroki couldn't.
he wasn't good at these things. he felt like he might explode with the guilt bubbling inside him or perhaps cry. he rolled his eyes at himself. maybe he was a little dramatic with that thought.
"how are we even gonna bring it up to him?" you threw your head back. "hey, izuku! it's me, your ex girlfriend who you're apparently still in love with. i've been sleeping with your best friend behind your back since the break up! forgive us?"
when you put it like that, it made the situation sound horrible.
todoroki adjusted his bag, "we'll just talk about this later," he muttered, speeding ahead to get to homeroom.
