Epilogue Part Two

"We're getting married!" Red squealed with delight, wiggling her ring finger adorned with a beautiful rock.

Hera's mouth was hanging open as she turned on Theo. You knew! He raised his hands, pleading innocence with his eyes when she joined the hysterics.

"Oh my god, I'm so happy for you. Tell me everything right now. Jean! Why didn't you tell me? Ahhh!"

Jean was bright red, clearly embarrassed by all the attention.

"A toast?" Joseph raised a glass for the pair and everyone joined in. "Congratulations, Jean and Astred on your engagement."

Each person toasted their congratulations, and Hera was so excited for the two women. She was especially happy for Jean, who looked like she wanted to sink into the carpet and disappear.

"Hey, you found her. Now you get to keep her forever." Hera whispered into her friend's ear. Jean met her gaze with a brilliant smile.

"Thank you." She whispered back. "For everything." They embraced, and it shocked both of them when tears spilt down their cheeks. On pulling back, both women exclaimed, "Why are you crying!"

Jean laughed and wiped the tears away, still not used to sharing such emotion, while Hera just squeezed Jean's flushed face in her hands. "You will be a stunning bride."

"Too many compliments, Hera." Jean choked out.

"When's the wedding?" Joseph asked with a smile. He never imagined the children he trained would grow up so fast.

"In the summer!" Red sang out, bubbling with excitement.

Hera's eyes widened in shock."That's four months away, you better get started planning!"

"Already halfway there." Red was so proud and excited it almost made Hera jealous. Excitement overrode everything else as they finished their celebratory dinner.

Four months later.

The gentle afternoon sun-blessed Jean and Red's wedding day. The four months prior had been insanely busy with planning and decision-making, but it only seemed to make the women closer than ever.

Red took over most of the organizing and Jean was happily along for the ride, pitching in whenever she was needed. An Evolved who had escaped from Azrail, Amara, was very quickly recruited to help with the preparations. She was able to 'jump' from any location and managed to bring back every item the fiancée's needed.

While both were perfectly fine using unsavoury means, Hera asked that Amara use her money to purchase the items rather than steal. Luckily for them, Jackie had invested a lot of money. A lot.

Enough for Hera to be comfortable for the rest of her life, truthfully.

The dresses were stunning. Jean chose a gorgeous two-piece pantsuit adorned with light lace around the bust. Red chose a tightly fitted mermaid flare dress and had the longest veil Hera had ever seen. They were smoking hot. They had decided on having the ceremony in the meadow near their settlement and everyone helped set up the seating, arch, and aisle. Zeke stood under the arch as officiant and waited for the brides.

Hera flitted between the two bridal tents to talk to each woman and she was quickly in tears seeing Jean. The soon-to-be bride was beaming.

"How do you feel?" Hera asked her, desperately trying to catch all her traitorous tears with a tissue.

"Like I'm in a dream," Jean replied, wiping away tears of her own.

A tall shadow passed the wall of the tent and a hand brushed on the tent's door. "May I come in?" It was Theo.

"Yes Teddy, come in!" Hera's breath caught in her throat seeing Theo in his wedding attire.

The suit was such a deep blue it reminded Hera of the night sky and matched her floor-length gown. His hair was combed back slightly, already half mussed by nervous hands. He was gorgeous. Her thought roused a glorious smile from his lips as he briefly met her eyes before landing on Jean.

"You look like..." Theo paused with a glint in his eye before shaking his head, "You look beautiful Jean."

Jean knew better than that, "What were you gonna say, Theo? Huh?" She jutted her chin out in defiance but her lips were already quirking up into a smile.

"I was gonna say you look like a lady for once." A laugh burst from both their lips. Hera loved watching their relationship and was so grateful they had each other while growing up.

"I feel too pretty. I need to roll in the dirt or something." Jean wiped tears from her eyes.

"Don't you dare," Hera said, squeezing her shoulders? Ocean started playing a soft love song on his keyboard outside and Jean squealed in a mixture of fright and excitement.

All three of them chuckled at her uncharacteristic exclamation before Theo took Jean's arm. "Time to go." They walked out of the tent and Theo's gaze lingered appreciatively on Hera as she rushed over to Red's tent. Stop staring at my ass, she thought with a smirk as she retreated.

Never, he replied instantly.

Red's tent had a few stressed voices coming from it to Hera's confusion. "Are you ready?" she asked as she parted the tent's opening. Hera was shocked to stillness by Red's panic. There were three other figures in the tent, all older men standing frozen before a scrutinizing Red.

"Which one should I go with?" Red asked like it was the most normal question in the world. The inside of the tent was a mess. Makeup, clothes, and her dress bag were strewn from end to end. A muddy strip of dirt had appeared where Red had been pacing.

Hera's confusion was evident on her face. "What are you talking about? Who are these people?"

Red groaned, throwing her head back in exasperation. "I needed someone to walk me down the aisle. I thought I would be fine to go alone, but I'm not, so I made these guys..."

Understanding bloomed in Hera's mind. "Oh."

Suddenly all the middle-aged men disappeared and Red's pleading face was shoved in Hera's. "Will you please walk me? You're probably the person I know the best here. Please, please please."

Hera placed a calm hand over Reds and smiled warmly. "I would be honoured Red. Please, for god's sake, take some deep breaths and we will go when you're ready."

Her breathing slowly calmed and she looked down at Hera's dress, "Oh my god girl, you would look good in a paper bag." Rippling laughter filled the tent as she looked at her body in a standing mirror. The dress had thin straps and an A-line across her chest but plunged her back showing off her toned body. A generous slit to mid-thigh exposed her legs and the uncomfortably high navy pumps.

"You have a good eye, Red." The bride before her blushed at the compliment and bit her lip. She had chosen Hera's gown before she had picked her wedding gown, or done much else of the planning.  Red had told her when it arrived, she was the easiest to pick for and forced her to not try it on until the wedding day.

"I think I'm ready now," Red said with a small squeal. They were definitely made for each other, Hera thought as she looped their arms together, and walked out of the tent. The women had to round a small path before they saw all of their loved ones smiling faces. Everyone was already standing from Jean's entrance and beamed seeing her fiancee. Both women, however, only had eyes for their partners, that stood at the end of the aisle, as they walked to the sound of Oceans playing.

You are beautiful. Hera flushed under her lover's gaze and returned the compliment.

Can't wait to see what's under that suit.

Her laughter nearly burst out as she saw a blush creep up Theo's neck. She had seen every part of him but he still blushed from her directness. As they finished their walk Hera gave Red a squeeze before she took her place next to Theo on the left.

Zeke's smile was brilliant as he talked through the ceremony. By the time the women started their vows, everyone was tearing up, but the words Jean spoke made them bawl.

"As soon as I heard of Evolved soulmates I couldn't stop thinking about who it would be. Would they love me for who I am, would they care about the things I do and love the people I do?" She looked at Zeke and the pair across from her with a smile.

"I have waited all my life for you but I never thought I would be lucky enough to find you. The first moment I saw you, I knew you were made for me. Even though you were unconscious."

Red giggled, squeezing Jeans' hands tightly.

"You saved me and you don't even know how much. All of us have struggled this year. We lost people." Hera's eyes watered and Theo's warm hand wrapped around her waist. She snuggled closer as Jean continued. "You are the reason I am here."

Hera gulped at the deeper meaning. Jean never talked about Joel after he died. She had no idea how much Jean had suffered from his loss.

"I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Astred. I love you."

Hera watched as tissues were passed around the pews. Red cleared her throat and let out a huge breath.

"I have lived what feels like a hundred lives. I've seen life through others' eyes and I have never seen anything as beautiful as you. You saved my life, my soul, and my heart. I am not proud of the things I have done but you forgave everything the first moment you saw me, and you helped me forgive myself. I am so proud of you and you make me proud of me too. I'm so excited to be your wife. I love you."

The vows were simple but both women knew the depth behind them. Their eyes were full of tears and Zeke concluded the ceremony with a very excited, resounding, "I now pronounce you, Wife and Wife!"

...

The reception was phenomenal, everyone danced, sang karaoke, except for Jean, and ate delicious food. Amara sat exhausted picking from the buffet. She had been busy for the last four months. She deserved a rest. Sage went and started a conversation with her with a blush coating his cheeks. It was the first time he had made an effort to speak to anyone since his brother's death. Hera was glad to see him talking to her, despite his attempts at flirting falling flat.

Despite the wedding party staying outside for most of the night, no one's mood soured. In fact, the giant bonfire Hera made only increased everyone's joy.

"May I have this dance?" Theo held out his hand to Hera. He had removed his suit jacket and tie and his sleeves were rolled up his forearms. His hair was thoroughly tousled and Hera swooned. She placed her hand in his and they slow danced to Ocean's next melody. Hera couldn't place it initially until she remembered her drunken karaoke and rolled her eyes at him. "The cranberries," Theo smirked against her cheek and whispered in her ear.

"This was the moment that made me realize I was in love with you." Hera's face pulled back as if slapped.

"What? You weren't even there."

"I came back from talking to your father and I saw it all my love." His grin was captivating as he spun her, her back now pressing on his chest. "You looked adorable up there and your voice...Well, Jean doesn't hold a candle to you." She scoffed as his hands slid down her torso to rest on her hips. She swayed against him and felt his desire easily. "You got me wrapped around your finger," She lilted softly along with the music. He kissed the top of her ear and she felt his heartbeat speed up against her shoulder. She turned to see if he was okay when he whispered two words she never thought she would hear.

"Marry me."
