Chapter 8: Flick
Evo and Ralph stared at each other long and hard as they waited for Judy to come back.
Evo studied Ralph for a bit. The way he panted, and left his long slobbery tongue dangling from his mouth.
What does it want, Evo wondered.
He remembered what Judy told him to do. The belly rub. Maybe Ralph wanted more of that?
Evo reached over to the Ralph's belly, and started rubbing it like before.
Ralph wagged his tail and smiled brightly as Evo rubbed his belly.
"You're... odd," Evo said as he finished, and looked around outside of the car.
Outside was the town. Men, women, and children walked on the sidewalks. Tons of stores surrounded them, and they either passed or entered them. A few exited and followed the rest of the movement. Though small, it was an active town.
Evo darted his eyes towards the people, and there were two that stood out to him the most. A woman and a young child. The woman held the child's small hand as they walked closely together. The boy laughed while the mother smiled at him.
Why are they doing that, he wondered. Why was the child letting the woman keep him in her possession?
While Evo wondered that, he quickly realized that the same tactic was being pulled on him by the woman with the dog.
Is this a trap, he asked himself. What if she went to the police?
No. Evo couldn't let that happen.
Evo turned around, and looked at the door next to him. He reached for the door handle, but stopped before he could pull the handle, and looked at the dog.
"Don't worry. I'll free us." Evo told Ralph as he pulled the handle and pushed the door outwards.
Ralph tilted his head as he watched Evo hop out of the car, and remained seated.
Evo turned around, and looked at Ralph curiously.
"Come." Evo waved at the dog to approach him.
Ralph licked his mouth and stood up. With no hesitation, he walked towards Evo, and joined him outside of the car.
Evo closed the door, and embraced the beating sun rays. The humidity was unlike anything he'd ever experienced. His pale skin couldn't take the powerful sun.
He tried to look up at the sky, but there was no sign of clouds. Just the clear blue sky and the bright sun that almost blinded him.
So bright and hot, he thought, must move.
It was hard for him to do so. The longer he stood out, the more he could feel his skin boil.
Evo got onto the sidewalk, and walked straight, his feet pressing down on the burning concrete. The burning sensation in his feet was nothing compared to what he had experienced.
As Evo and Ralph went down the sidewalk, they passed several people, mostly over the age of fifty. They looked at Evo and Ralph strangely, but particularly towards Evo. He didn't exactly have the same sort of clothing as the rest of the people around him.
Evo grew uneasy of his surrounding. Everyone looked at him. He stood out from the whole town. He couldn't have that. He had to blend in.
Evo stopped and turned around. He looked back at the truck he arrived in that was a few buildings down.
Maybe I should return, he thought to himself, The lady is right. I need clothes.
"Mutt, let's go back," Evo said as he walked back to the truck he came in. After a few steps, he looked down and saw Ralph up against the glass to the front of a store.
Evo raised an eyebrow and stood in front of the glass with Ralph. When he looked at the other side of the glass, his eyes widened.
Old TV's that were stacked on one another all played the same footage.
The footage was an aerial view of a crop field, full of large white trucks with men in white hazmat suits walking around. The trucks and men surrounded a large crater that had a long trench that connected to it. The crater was mostly covered in a tent, which covered whatever caused it.
But Evo knew what it was.
The Pod, he thought to himself, they found it.
Evo then froze entirely when the footage zoomed in on a man. A man he knew terribly well.
The mean man in the suit, Evo called him. He recognized the man instantaneously. His large physique and veiny white hands. Oh Evo knew. His whole body reacted just from the sight of him, with intense chills that went down his spine. He even started to feel the cloth he was wearing begin to soak.
Suddenly, everything changed for Evo. His mission had become several times more impossible with the mean man now in the picture. It was only a matter of time before he would be found. He had to run now. There was no hiding anymore.
"Yo guys! Look at this kid!" He heard a boy yell next to him.
Evo turned, fear still on his face as he saw a tall, chubby boy with a baseball hat, followed by two smaller kids, both as skinny as Evo, all standing in front of him. They looked a little older than Evo, most likely in their early teens.
The chubby boy, with a grin on his face, stepped up to Evo, looking at him from head to toe.
Evo noticed that in the chubby's boy smile, he was missing one of his front teeth.
"What's up with the diaps, twerp?" The chubby boy asked.
The two boys behind him laughed as they looked at Evo.
"Twerp?" Evo tilted his head, not understanding the boy's slang.
The chubby boy looked back at his friends and pointed at Evo ridiculously, and shook his head.
"What? You don't know English?" The chubby boy spat in his face, which caused Evo to flinch in disgust.
The chubby boy looked down at Evo's diaper, and pointed at it with a smile.
"Guys, I just made him pee himself!" He laughed hysterically.
The two boys looked, saw how soaked Evo's diaper was, and laughed with the chubby boy.
"How embarrassing!" One of them said.
"You're the man, Brad!" The other shouted.
Evo looked down at his diaper, and saw what they were laughing at. Was that what happened when he saw the man on the TV? He peed himself?
Ralph ran next to Evo and barked at Brad.
Brad glanced at the dog, but ignored him, turning his attention towards Evo.
"Look at you..." Brad said as his friends laughed, "you're the most disgusting thing I've ever seen, and I've seen my parents do... things."
"Watch what you say..." Evo warned him, as flames sparked in his eyes.
"Or what? You think your bony arms can do something to me?" Brad yelled in his face.
"I don't want to hurt you..." Evo tried to take a step back, but Brad pushed him.
Evo took several steps back, slightly stunned by Brad's push. His friends shouted entertainingly.
"Oooh!"
"Dang!"
"Bony arms thinks he can fight back!" Brad laughed with his friends.
"Stop calling me that..." Evo warned Brad as he gritted his teeth.
Brad stepped forward, and spoke in a mocking tone.
"Stop calling me that - Why don't you make me, diaps?" Brad then reached for Evo's chest, launching another push.
Fine, Evo thought to himself, and then, everything went slow.
He raised both his hands, and grabbed Brad's instantly with strong grip. For a split second, Evo saw his eyes widen, in shock and in fear. Evo pushed them apart, leaving his chest open. And then, with his right hand, he flicked his finger at him.
Brad was launched and sent flying back in the air to his two friends. He landed hard on the concrete, and tumbled in front of his friends. He stopped with his face up, eyes closed as he winced in pain. His shirt was rolled up, which revealed his large belly.
His two friends looked at each other puzzled, and crouched down beside Brad. One of them poked him.
"Brad, you okay?" He asked.
Brad opened his eyes, and saw his two friends looking down at him. He tried to wipe off the pain on his face, and stood back up. He looked at Evo, unsure of what had just happened. It all happened so fast for him.
"Hey!" Evo heard a woman behind him shout.
He turned around, and saw Judy jogging towards him with clothes on her arms.
"C'mon guys..." Brad said as he stepped back, and told his friends, "let's get out of here."
His friends saw the adult approaching, and knew they had to leave.
Brad and his friends quickly ran away before Judy made it to the scene.
Judy stopped next to Evo, and watched as they ran.
"Aww, I didn't get to meet your friends," She sighed, completely clueless of what had just happened.
Evo looked at Judy and shook his head.
"Not friends." He told her.
"Oh," she shrugged, and looked at Evo and Ralph, "I thought I told you two to stay in the truck?"
Evo looked at the tv, and saw the same footage still being shown.
"I saw something..." He said as he focused on the people walking around the tent.
Judy looked at Evo oddly, and then to the tv. She stepped closer to the TV's and looked at them carefully.
"Hey..." she said as she pointed at the field surrounding the tent, "that's Mr. and Mrs. Brady's land. They live really close to me."
Evo's eyes widened as he turned to Judy.
"What?"
"Yeah!" She told him, and looked nervous, "oh man, I hope they don't film my crops. They're not exactly healthy."
Oh no, Evo thought as he started to panic, how could I involve her in this? She is clearly oblivious to all of this.
Evo couldn't stay with her anymore. He had to part ways, or else bad things would happen to her.
As he turned to Judy, ready to thank her for her help, and tell her that he'd be going his own way, a low thrumming sound blared in the blue sky above.
Evo and Judy both looked up, and saw three military helicopters soaring above them. The sounds blasted throughout the whole town, which caught everyone's attention. They then heard the sounds of several powerful engines, and when they looked down the street, they saw several of the white trucks from the TV rolling through the town. Behind the trucks, were military trucks with soldiers arming the turrets.
In a matter of seconds, Evo and Judy were surrounded by the military.
