summer passed in a heady rush of manic energy. a door had opened, a door whose key had been stolen by someone else a long time ago. i'd never expected to let someone through again.

i underestimated your strength. or maybe it was your sheer bulk, splintering the wood as you shouldered your way in. nothing could have stopped you.

and suddenly there you stood in my home, your hulking frame in the doorway. i didn't see then how it wasn't big enough for the both of us. i only saw how you filled the empty space.
