"Do you think we're ready for a baby?" The question came out of no where. Jack had been sitting on the counter, watching Mark prepare their dinner for the night.
Mark was startled for a second, not expecting those words to come out of his long-time best friend and boyfriend's mouth. "I...I really don't know," he replied softly, returning to the food, which seemed to be sticking to the pan.
Jack swung his legs slowly, looking down at the slippers that adorned his feet. "I mean, are we emotionally ready to handle caring for another human life?"
He turned off the burners and turned to face Jack, wrapping his arms around the smaller male. "We're not even married Jack," Mark said. "And we can barely handle holding a stuffed animal without dropping it, let alone a baby." He paused for a few seconds, looking into Jack's eyes. "I don't think we're ready. Maybe in a few years, but not now."
Jack closed his eyes and sighed, looking back at Mark and reaching his hand into his hoodie pocket. He pulled out a small plastic stick and set it on the counter next to him.
Mark glanced down at the object, his eyes glazing over in confusion for a few moments. When he realized what the object was, he pulled himself away from Jack. He quickly snatched the pregnancy test off the counter.
"Jack..." he whispered softly. "You're pregnant?" Mark's voice was a whisper, hardly audible.
Jack nodded silently. Within seconds he was being lifted off the counter and swung around the kitchen. "M-Mark! Be careful!" He exclaimed, a smile gracing his face.
The half-Korean man apologized and set Jack down gently. "I can't believe it! You're pregnant. I'm going to be a dad!"
"I...I thought you said we weren't ready." Jack said, looking up at Mark.
"Maybe we're not, but that doesn't mean we can't be the most amazing parents in the world." Mark smiled widely. "I love you two so much." He said, addressing both Jack and the baby growing inside of him.
"We love you too, you big doof."
