{ Chapter 29 } : The kind of night that comes with a bang
Jealous and intense Sam was the hottest – downright sexiest. Drunk Sam was hands down the cutest.
"Shh," I whispered, suppressing my laughter. "You need to be quiet."
Getting Sam into the car from Hunter's house was a feat itself. He stumbled beside me, singing me his favorite song – our song – 'Not A Bad Thing' by Justin Timberlake in his gravelly drunken-slur. It wasn't long until he exclaimed he had to pee. Poor Mrs. Warren's hedges for "watered" by Sam shortly after. Getting back to my house before midnight in one piece with a very drunk Sam constantly pecking kisses on my right hand knuckles and trying to unbuckle his seat belt was even harder.
The bigger ordeal was getting us safely into the house, especially since Sam had made it a point to mold himself behind me as I fumbled with the lock and key.
He nuzzled the back of my head, acting like an affectionate monster. He made funny noises as he kissed the back of my head, his arms tightening around me.
"Almost there." I unlocked the door and spun around in his arms. "Remember our promise? We stay quiet until we make it to your room."
He blinked and nodded adorably. "M-My room. Where we bang." He brought a finger to his mouth, shushing, and whispered, "I'll be so good and quiet, baby."
I rolled my lips into my mouth to stop the stream of laughter on the verge of exploding. We're not actually going to bang. I let him go through with it so he would actually get into the car.
God, I'm a horrible person.
We stumbled into the house because Sam propelled us inside with force. I whirled around, my glower ready. Instead I found myself flat against the closed door with Sam's soft and unyielding mouth about to descend.
I dodged his mouth last second with every ounce of willpower. "S-Sam." I jerked my face away, but that didn't detonate Sam's desire. He went on to rain kisses down my neck. Oh, Lord. That felt incredible. My head fell back and the sound of desire that ripped out of me encouraged his ministrations further. "Michael...My mom...They're all home. Sleeping. Not here."
He tugged his face away and his dirty blond head was a mess of dishelved strands. He pouted. Actually. Fucking. Pouted.
I walked him backwards until he plopped his ass down on the settee in the entrance hallway. I bent down and started untying his laces. "Take your shoes off, Sam."
No. Samuel had other plans as he busied himself with ripping off his leather jacket. Much to my horror (and delight), he whipped off his crewneck and graced me with the beautiful sight of his bare masculine chest. Those lick-able muscles flexing and dipping deliciously under that bronzed Italian skin.
"I'm nakxd," he grinned dashingly, then fumbled for a second, glancing down pointedly at his denim-covered crotch. "...almost."
I shook my head. "You need to take off your shoes, Sam."
His chest rose and fell on the large gulp of air he inhaled. "Why?"
I was going straight to hell. "I can't bang you in your bed if you have your shoes on."
His mouth formed a soft 'o' shape. "Ohhhhhh." The shoes were kicked off his feet in record time. "You're right. Should I take my jeans off, too?"
I reacted quickly and covered his mouth with my hand when his voice raised an octave. Lord have mercy, if my mom (or worse Michael) woke up, it me would be the end of me. "Quiet, Beer Boy."
"Sorry, baby."
It was dark in the hallway, so I tried my best to take off my thigh-highs while keeping Sam's mouth shut with my hand. He kept humming our song.
"I'm really hard for you, Anna," he confessed huskily out of the blue. I choked on my saliva. "You're going to have to work on your gag reflexes. I haven't even shown you my c*ck yet and you're already choking. I'm really b-"
"Samuel Rafael Adams," I hissed, blushing from the roots of my hair, down to my toes. "You kiss your mother with that dirty mouth?"
He leaned his head back and the move caused his muscular torso to expand with his next breath. His next words slapped on a shxt-eating grin on his face. Even drunk, the guy could tease. "I kiss you with that mouth."
"Oh, God," I murmured dryly, picking up his discarded clothing so no one had surprises in the morning. "I'm going to die."
"No, you won't." His voice dropped to a low pitch, a rich and throaty sound. It resonated a lot closer. I felt the back of Sam's hand brush away my hunk of hair so he could curl his hand around the side of my neck. He veered me closer, his hot breath raising goosebumps on my skin. "I'm going to be so good to you, baby. So slow and gentle. Promise. Going to lay you down. Fxst your hair softly. Going to splxt your knees even slower and-"
"He dirty talks," I cursed to myself, my breath leaving my trapped lungs with difficulty as I pulled away from him. I was shell-shocked. "Fvck me."
The dark did nothing to conceal the lu$ty expression on his face. He licked his bottom lip. "That's the plan, sweetheart."
I could feel him getting up from the settee with determination. I rushed, my senses going headfirst into panic. "Sam-"
Two warm hands branded the back of my legs and lifted me up until my legs were forcedly vined around his hips.
He was about to take me upstairs.
And in three seconds I was about to break his heart when I told him we weren't going to fvck.
My fingers sifted in his mane. "Baby, how much did you drink?"
Green eyes moved oved my face. "A couple of glasses of vodka and a funnnnny looking pill that Joshua gave me," he slurred.
That explained the crazy red eyes he was sporting. Dammit, he mixed drugs with alcohol. He was more fvcked up because of the combination.
"Next time you miss me, Sam, or are mad at me, you call me, okay?" I asked. "Don't go drinking and taking funny looking pills because of me."
He pressed his forward to mine. "Sorry, baby," he said for what felt like the millionth time. The term of endearment continued to make me feel giddy on the inside. "Okay."
I took a deep breath. "Now you're going to be really quiet as you go up the staircase, all right? Not one sound, okay?"
He nodded adorably and knocked my chin with his by accident. "Promise." His fingers tightened on my bvtt and he pulled me closer, letting me feel the full depth of his arovsal. Oh, God.
Shirtless and barefoot, he carried me up the staircase with ease. Didn't even break a sweat, but with his physique, that was to be expected. We reached the second level and darkness bathed the hallway.
Just as we were about to creep into his bedroom, I felt the daredevil of a grin curl over his lips as he opened his big, fat mouth. "Bet you've got the txghtest pvssy on the planet."
* * *
He threw us on the bed, leaving me no time to ponder over the fact that someone may have heard his words.
Sam wasted no time in strxpping me of my jacket. His mouth remained occupied with my neck and his knuckles dragged underxeath my top.
"Beer Boy," I whispered frantically, "Slow down."
His body grew taut on top of mine and he raised his head, his eyes looking even worse. "Why?"
I grazed his stubby cheek with my palm. "Because you're drunk out of your mind and won't remember anything tomorrow. We're not having sxx."
My word were like a bucket of ice cold water being poured over his raging libido. One beat. Two beat. I inhaled. He exhaled. Sam's face quickly sunk as disappointment cemented over his expression.
I wanted to take things to the next step with him, but sxx was a while new ball in the park. We had intimacy, Sam and I, so I wanted to slowly build our relationship upon that. Slowly. This was too fast for me. I wanted late night conversations. I wanted heart-thudding moments. I wanted memorable dates. I wanted everything I never had with the others.
Moreover, there was a little voice in my head chanting, "Do you even remember how to svck d!ck, Anna?"
Good Lord, I can't even remember the last time I'd given head. I used to be so good at bl*wj*bs. I used to love giving them. Well, damn.
Sam collapsed on top of me, his voice muffled by my shoulder. "Y-You're...right. I need to be sober the first time I l*ck your little pvssy."
I gasped. "Samuel-"
He yawned and rolled over. "I'm fuuucked in the head right now," he whispered. "I want to make love to you properly. You deserve that. To be loved properly and thoroughly."
That's all it took to melt my heart. Not fvck me, but make love to me. Because I deserved it. The heart in question pounded a rough rhythm. I'd never been made love to before...
I pushed myself off the bed. If I didn't then he and I would sure as hell be making love right now. He was getting harder to resist. For a guy who claimed he was bad with words, Sam always, always uttered words that tugged at my heartstrings.
"Sweetheart, I'm going to go change, and get you a glass of water and an aspirin. I'll be back soon. Okay?"
He folded his hands over the square of his abs and peered at me through half-mast eyes. "Can you wear my jersey to bed, baby?"
The tone of his voice and the boyish quality of his expression was what had me nodding eagerly.
I realized quickly there wasn't anything I wouldn't do for this guy. All he had to do was ask me nicely and I'd oblige.
I rushed through my night time routine, taking my makeup off and vigorously brushing my teeth. Even though sxx was off the table, I was excited to just lay next to him and unwind the stress of the day. I grabbed him a bottle of water as well as aspirin and tip-toed back to his room.
Only to find him sound asleep.
I smiled at the sight. He look so rumpled and adorable, snoring lightly through his mouth.
His clean black jersey was resting on the back of the beige recliner. I changed out of my shorts and tank top, getting rid of my bra and letting it fall on his floor. Wearing nothing but my matching cheeky pxnties and the number twenty-eight on my back, I climbed in bed with him.
* * *
A hand drifted over my hip and clutched my waist tightly. A hot breath at my ear whispered, "Anna."
The sound was so inviting and throaty.
I roused awake from sleep, my eyes slowly adjusting to the light around us. I was still in Sam's bed, our limbs tangled and his warm body plastered to my back.
I glimpsed at him over my shoulder through a bleary gaze. "Hm?"
"It's five thirty am," he said. "You're mom..."
"Won't be awake for another two hours. Go back to sleep, hon."
I felt him crush me beneath him as he kissed my cheek. "I'm going to go brush my teeth." There was gravel in his voice. "You left that water and aspirin out for me?"
He must have been talking about the ones I left on the nightstand for him. Drowsily, I nodded.
After another kiss on the cheek, he was clambering out of bed. The sun was rising dimly, if the light glare peaking through his blinds like pinstripes was any indication. I only fell asleep five hours ago and I could go for more.
Sam came back to bed shortly, and I noticed that his eyes weren't as red, but he had dark circles marring his under eyes. There was a day's worth of growth on his jaw and he looked completely morning-mussed. He caught my sleepy gaze and still managed a wink. I lazily watched him throw on a light grey hoodie and shed his jeans – leaving on his CK briefs and giving me an eyeful of that deliciously sculpted derriere – before slipping on a pair of matching grey sweats.
His sheepish gaze slowly inched my way. "I don't know why I'm cold." He mildly grabbed his forehead. "And my head is throbbing."
"It might have something to do with all those drinks you had, and the drugs you took," I murmured.
"You're right."
I didn't say anything. The sleep cobwebs slowly dispersed and gave way to better vision and understanding. My eyes roamed his body as I watched him take a painkiller. Relief punched through me once he'd finished downing it with some water.
"It won't happen again. Sorry, babe." A wry twist curved his mouth. "I usually know my limits."
"S'okay, I trust you."
I rolled over and gave him space to climb in. He settled his head on the same pillow as mine and twisted his body so we lay side-by-side. He grasped my waist, veered me closer, and lifted my leg until it curled around his thigh. "Are you going back to sleep?" he hushed, a fresh minty breath splaying my face.
I crooked a smile at him and tugged one of the strings in his hoodie. "Do you really think I can go back to sleep now that you're awake?"
He looked guilty. Sam's lashes lowered and pink tinged those strong cheekbones. "I can let you go back to sleep for a bit if you want."
I palmed his chest. "Do you really want me to go back to bed?"
He bit his lip and shook his head mischievously. "No. I want you awake. I want to talk to you."
"I figured just as much," My laugh was raspy. "Last night you were pretty fvcked up."
"I know," he said regretfully. "Wish I could remember it."
I laughed some more. "You really don't."
"Fvck, did I say some embarrassing shit?" He closed his eyes and cursed. "Nate's right. I've lost my manhood card."
My giggle was muffled by his shoulder. "I think it was cute."
"Spare me the details." His voice was laced with torture. "I don't want to know. Let's talk about something else."
"Okay." I snuggled closer to him and fit my head in the crook of his neck. "What do you want to talk about?"
"For one, the fact that you're wearing my jersey..."
"Don't complain, Beer Boy. You asked me to slip it on."
"Mm. Not complaining at all. You in my clothes is the best damn sight I've ever seen. Did I also ask you to leave your bra on my floor or was that done voluntarily?"
My face flamed and my heart sped up. "Voluntarily."
His hand raced a path over the back of my thigh until the caught the hem of his jersey. The pads of his fingertips grazed the lacy edge of my underxwear. He hissed breath. "Oh, fvck. Yeah? Did that for me, did you?"
Of course, I did that for him. "Maybe."
He jerked my chin up and teasingly bit the underside of my jaw. "My baby's such a bad girl, huh?"
With a wicked smirk, I tightened my hooked leg around his waist. I reversed our positions so he landed flat on his back with me on top of him. If we weren't against a wall, then this was our position. "I'm not a bad girl," I whispered coyly, canting my head so all my hair cascaded on one side.
Sam's eyes darkened and I saw the exact moment that rogue glint entered his gaze. "Mmm." He palms, a hint rougher than mine, skidded over my thighs. "Yeah. Fvcking. Right. You little tease."
Leaning forward, I braced my forearms on either side of his face, bringing our bodies even closer. I bit his lip and tugged. He grxaned, a sharp sound that caused a simmering ache to settle within me.
"You know what I do to bad girls like you who pretend they're good?" Sam's hand came around to cup my a$s, holding me firmly against him.
"Enlighten me." I kissed his mouth quick and hard. He made a sound that was reflective to my own needs and caused heat to pool in my stomach.
"What do you do to 'bad girls' again?"
A challenging glimmer came into his eyes, tossing aside the teasing one that resided there a mere flutter again. He jerked up in one fluid movement, his hands clawing at my hips for purchase. The front of his thighs shielded my back.
I expected a naughty threat. Maybe even a bit of filthy talk. No. Sam took me by complete surprise as he began tickling me. A jolt travelled through my body and I jerked a couple of times, fits of laughter bubbling in the pit of my stomach. I cried and laughed and begged for him to stop. He threw me onto my back and covered my shaking frame with his. My shirt was askew and I'd pulled the strings in his hoodie by the end of it all.
Sam chuckled too, his sound more boyish, mixing with my girlish one and creating a soft melody as he regarded me beneath him. There was a moment where all laughter died. He watched me quietly, the strong dentation of his dimple greeting me. His gaze grazed over my face like a slow, burning caress.
"You're so beautiful," Sam said. "Couldn't have imagined a better you."
He's so unreal, I thought. There can't be a guy so perfect as the ones I'm holding in my arms right now. My hands molded to the slopes of his cheeks and I held his green stare. "Thank you."
"I want to kiss you now," he admitted softly. "That okay with you, Barbie?"
My greedy hands clawed at his hoodie hungrily and pulled his mouth down on top of mine. Words were no longer needed. At the first touch, I sighed and allowed my mouth to enjoy his ministration. Sam liked the act of kissing, I picked up quickly.
The way he kissed me so completely and thoroughly. He was the ocean and I'd been depraved for too long. Oxygen could not sustain me. Only his kiss, the feel of his hot mouth brushing over mine continuously. He sipped at my bottom lip, his throaty sxxy sounds lingering in the back of our kisses. Our chests glided with our rapid inhales and exhales. Sam delved his tongue into my mouth, prying my lips open with his. His taste and texture was drugging, and sent me into a wild frenzy.
Samuel withdrew until our mouths hovered a hairsbreadth away. He was gazing at me like I was beautiful and completely his, panting. In this moment, he owned me. His hooded eyes were running over my face like he was memorizing the details of my face in his mind.
"Talk to me." His thumb swiped over my swollen, glistening mouth.
"About what?" My erratic breathing finally rolled back to a regular pace.
"Anything and everything," he hushed, rolling over to his back and pulling me with him. "Ask me whatever you'd like."
Joy flittered through the cracks and broke out like the rise of dawn. This was Samuel giving me the leeway I'd wanted for so long. He told me. One kiss and I'd have it all. He had so much to tell me and I had so much to learn. I wanted to know what made him smile and laugh. I wanted to know all the things that made him Samuel Rafael Adams.
"Anything?"
"Anything, babe."
I laid my head back against his shoulder, wanting to start off with something simple and easy. "When is...your birthday?"
I felt his smirk before I saw it. "October 28th. I turn nineteen. You?"
"That's soon," I mumbled. "August 2nd."
"Happy belated birthday," he grinned devilishly. "Sorry I missed it."
I jokingly punched him. "You weren't invited at the club anyways." It's a shame I didn't even know you back then.
"I'm wounded," he said drily. "Really, baby."
I went for another surface question. I wanted to peel his layers softly. "Sam...who's Kate? Uh, Nate, he wanted advice, but, didn't properly tell me who she was."
Sam's eyes flickered ceilingward. "Not sure if it's my place to say anything, but I'll say it anyway," he sighed. "Kate is Nate's first love, if you want to call it. First girl he ever kissed and all. They're childhood neighbors. She lives next to him. He's spent so much time pinning after her and I don't think she's ever really noticed, you know?"
"Do you know her?"
He shrugged a shoulder. "Sure. She's Italian, so my mom knows her parents. I've seen her at some family gatherings. She's a decent girl."
"Is she...pretty?"
"Baby," Sam voice was taunting. I looked up at him while feigning nonchalance. "Shut up. You're the only one I find pretty. Next question, please."
I couldn't even be offended since he said I was the only one he found pretty. I still kicked him for good measure and he retaliated by slapping my a$s. I whistled a breath through clenched teeth, completely miffed. "That was unnecessary, Beer Boy."
"No it wasn't. You're beautiful. You're in my bed. You're half nakxd. You're teasing me. You deserved to get that perfect a$s reddened."
Oh, God. I blushed. "So romantic."
He touched my waist softly. "Okay. You got more questions for me, baby?"
"Tell me about the fighting," I whispered, scared he'd pull back now.
Just like I thought, his chiseled body turned to stone in my arms. I smoothed my hands down his sides to get him to relax under my touch. "Please, I want to know."
I was so grateful that he was giving me this opportunity – that he was letting me in. I couldn't let it escape.
The tension lines in his body slowly eased with every delicate stroke of my hand. "What would you like to know?"
I kissed his cheek and rubbed his cheek with my hand, loving the feel of his prickly stubble underneath my soft palms. Anything to give him affection. Anything for him to feel that I was here in this moment with him and nothing could snatch me away from him. "How it all started."
The next breath he took was a deal breaker. He pondered my words, I could tell, as his gaze flitted anywhere but my face.
"Sam." I lightly angled his face my way. "I'm here."
He pressed his forehead to mine and hushed his words against my hovering lips. "It's because of Nate. We first met when I was fifteen."
I stayed quiet and patient, giving him what he needed.
"I've always been a little bit rebellious, you know?" he said. "My mom always said she couldn't keep up with me – a trait I'd inherited from my Italian side, she'd say. I've always sought trouble without even trying."
I skimmed over the fading bruise on his face, telling him with actions that I knew what he meant.
"I was fifteen and I'd snuck into Danny's Grill one night. I was having a hard time, a lot of heaviness on my mind that I just couldn't erase, I guess. Thinking back to it now, I'm sure Daniel knew I'd snuck in. He's always watched out for me in a way my own father never did. He understood my need to be numb. He let me get drunk under his supervision and when no one was watching me, I left. I just wanted the pain in my mind to be gone. I didn't want to remember much. I think I stumbled to the alleyway in the back of Danny's and leaned against the wall. Just breathing and breathing. Not thinking. But the alcohol couldn't dull what I was feeling."
"What were you feeling?"
His mouth brushed my eyelids. "Guilt and a lot of pain."
I swallowed. "If this is too hard for you –"
He kissed my temple now. "No. I'm good. I want to tell you this."
"Okay," I whispered.
"I just wanted to be numb for awhile. It didn't really work. Right there, in the alley, in the dark, I saw a girl, she was probably a few years younger than me, barely of age, getting harassed. Don't know what she was doing out so late at night, but she had these, I don't know, thugs maybe, surrounding her. It was obvious. They weren't just teasing her. They wanted something from her." He looked me deep in the eyes and it was something unsettling. I sucked a breath as I understood. "Something I couldn't let them take. No matter how fvcked up and drunk I was. I thought I was strong and brave. Thought I was invincible." A choked laugh stuttered in his throat. "I fucking wasn't. I was outnumbered and her clothes were ripped. I fought with everything I had. It was a bloody mess. Fists flew everywhere. I managed to get the girl out of harm's way. She ran away. But I was left on the ground, drunk and bleeding. It hurt so much, Anna. I thought they had killed me. I thought I'd died. Back then, I hoped I'd die. I thought to myself, why didn't I run away and save myself? Why did I even bother? One look in that little girl's face told me I did the right thing."
"Oh, Sam. You're so brave, baby." I lifted myself on one elbow, fighting the feeling of my heart climbing in my throat. My eyes stung. "You did do the right thing. You stopped a girl from getting rxped."
This boy right here. He was so unexpected. I didn't expect him. I thought back to how I first met him. How I thought he was nothing more than a guy looking for a good lay. A heartbreaker and a player. I couldn't have been more wrong.
"Nate found me that night." The broken quality of his rasp ate at me. "He found me in the alleyway, battered and bruised. Those guys were relentless but Nate managed to put up a good fight. Don't know how, but they finally left us. I remember seeing his face looking down at mine with terror. I wasn't numb. I felt everything. Powerlessness. Despair. If Nate wasn't there, I probably would have died. He was a stranger who found me out of luck, and helped me out instead of being a coward and running away. No questions asked. I owe him everything, Anna. I'd never forget that night. It broke something inside of me, but it rebuilt me in ways I can't explain. It defined me. It drove me and it gave me purpose. I wasn't able to stand my ground but I fought with everything inside of me and that feeling... Baby, it was exhilarating for me."
"I can't imagine, but I can understand what it must have felt like," I said fiercely. "Lord knows I know what powerlessness and despair feels like."
He smiled at me. It was sad. I didn't like it. "Nate became my best friend that night, above all. He said I'd done the right thing. That was it. A few weeks later, Nate introduced me to Richie and the rest of the underground fighters. When I asked him why, he said he saw something in me that night. Said I looked determined and grounded. Told me that this could be my outlet for everything I was feeling. The guys in the circuit took me in like I was family and Richie began training me. Four years later, I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't been beat up. That night made me into the person I am today."
My heart broke as I imagined a fifteen-year-old Sam. Bloody. Hurting. In pain. No one to take it away from my Beer Boy. "I stand by what I said. You're so brave, Sam. The most courageous guy I've ever met. The one with the sweetest heart." I planted a kiss over where his heart was. "Invincible."
He cradled my head and another choked sound escaped his mouth. He tried to muffle it in my hair. "I've never said that to anyone."
My vision blurred a little and my throat tightened as I tried to speak around the vice gripping it tightly. "Thank you for trusting me enough," I said shakily. "Baby, what outlet are you talking about? Why were you in so much pain? Why did you want to be numb?"
He trembled. Sam head tucked in the crook of my neck and he breathed in my scent. I felt him gulping calming breaths to ease up his nerves. "My older sister died when I was thirteen."
Oh, my God.
I froze in our embrace and sat up completely, my back against the headboard. I couldn't contain my expression. "Sam...I had no idea."
"No one really knows the story besides Nate."
The jagged pieces of puzzle finally fell into place. "That's who you were visiting that night in the cemetery."
He snuggled his head in my lap, his arms wrapping around my waist. "Yes."
My hands sifted in the strands of his dirty blond hair. "I'm listening, Sam. Always."
He inhaled a shuddering breath and I didn't think it was possible, but my heart broke some more. "She was eighteen when she died. We were close. She got gang-rxped by a couple of guys in the wood during a party. Fvck, my sister was traumatized after everything. I was too young to really understand the depth of her situation. No one listened to her story. My parents didn't know how to get her the proper help she needed, and she refused to talk. Everyone shunned my family. Her friends turned on her. Everyone at school called her a wh*re and a slvt. She killed herself a few months later."
I had tears streaming down my cheek. One of it fell and splattered over Sam's cheek. He glanced up at me through sincere eyes, his Adam's apple bobbing with a difficult swallow. He reached up to swipe my tears with his thumb. "Anna, don't cry."
"I-I can't h-help it." I couldn't help it because I understood. After Joey had his way with me, everyone called me a wh*re and slvt. I was a social pariah. No one wanted anything to do with me. My father died because of my selfish actions and I didn't have the guts to talk to anyone. People only forgot about me after I became old news. I was no longer Jodanna, the Party Girl...I was just Anna, the nobody. I'd never been more content to be out of the spotlight. I had wanted to kill myself back then. I couldn't imagine what it felt like to have everyone turn on you. I still had Gabby and Layla. I still had my family. "B-Because I hurt for you."
"You're something else, Anna," he whispered.
I got my tears under control and wiped them away. "What was her name?"
As if a distant memory plagued him, he smiled again, this time for real. "Samantha. My mom called her Raven – short for Ravenna, her Italian middle name. My parents had a thing for names that start with S and R, I guess."
"I'm guessing they weren't history or alcohol fanatics," I teased to lighten the mood.
Sam smirked. "Nah, baby. Not at all."
"That's why you saved that little girl, right? Because it reminded you of your sister's situation." That's why you saved me that night in the alleyway.
Keeping his eyes on mine, he nodded. I noticed there was a glassy quality to his eyes that I couldn't overlook. He wanted to be kissed, my Beer Boy. He raised himself and tipped his head forward. I took his mouth in another kiss and he grxaned.
"Fvck, your mouth drives me insane," he hushed in a growly voice. "I can keep kissing you all day. You make everything better, baby."
I smiled, dodging his mouth, and placing open-mouthed kisses down his neck. He growled some more.
"You need to stop. I can't resist you. You know that," he pleaded on pants. "I swear I'll have you flat on your back and then we won't be doing much talking."
I grinned playfully and pushed him until he fell on his back, and I was once again on top of him. He continued laughing and pretending to object as I peppered kisses all over his face.
"I wasn't expecting you," I admitted softly. "I couldn't imagine a better you, either, Sam."
The lone dimple I loved so much rose to prominence and the grin he gave me was so heart-thudding. I had it all right here. The conversations and heart-thudding moments I'd always wanted, with an invincible boy who claimed I made everything better – who made me feel like I wasn't broken anymore.
The best things in life were always unexpected.
