Chapter 11: Kidnapping
Mia
"you ready?"
"Ready."
"Matty you ready?"
"Ready."
"Dolce?"
"Do I have to say I'm ready? Is sitting in the driver seat since half an hour aren't enough for you?" Dolce sarcastically remarked.
"We just need to be sure you're here with us not flying down to your own dreamland." I narrowed my eyes and retorted.
"I just touched down to Tahiti and decided that my desperate friends need my help so I got back. Peep peep. I'm here! Is that enough?" He blew up.
"Well enough." I mindlessly replied and shifted my focus to how we are going to do it. Dolce had sarcasm embedded in his DNA so there was no point of throwing fits of sarcasm at Dolce because he would fire back with twice the strength and there were more important matters at hand that we had to deal with.
We had decided on call that I will take Josh's Bmw bike and Josh and Matty will do the kidnapping and Dolce will drive them out without bringing our van to anyone's attention. I will stand away from them keep an eye on everything, from the cars parked to cameras, to people and also signal to them when they're supposed to enter. And if they were facing problems while abducting him, I'll go give them a helping hand. Our plan was perfect.
Flashback
"Tomorrow is sunday so Noah allows his guards to take a day off. Ashton goes to church at 10 so he submits his weapons into his office between 8 and 9 before heading off to the cathedral. That's the best time to kidnap, he'll be without weapons and he goes to church so no one will suspect if we make him disappear for a few hours." Matty explained the plan.
Flashback ends
We drove out of the office, Josh and Matty spreaded themselves inside the Van while I followed them driving Josh's bike. Josh's greyish black Bmw was brilliant except for the hard leather seat which was made for the male butt and not my butt. The seat poked my butt bone and caused an ache whenever it jumped on the bumper.
I slowed down the speed and drove it smoothly so that it wouldn't prick my ass.
Although we left at the same time, I took a separate route so that it doesn't comes to anyone attention. I reached earlier than them, I flashed my reporter card at the gateway.
"I need a bodyguard, some terrorists have been threatening me." I talked to the watchman. He eyed me from head to toe.
"You're a reporter?" His eyes scanned my clothes and darted to the bike.
I hestitantly answered." Yeah?"
He chuckled." You..."he drawled."-don't look like one."
I snapped," If I don't wear tee and an ID is not dangling around my neck doesn't mean that I'm not a reporter."
He showed his palm in defense." I didn't mean that young lady. It's that I have never seen a female reporter move around..err..in a bike." He pressed his lips and raised his eye brows in awe.
"Thanks for that." I coyly smiled.
He scoffed eyeing the bike. "But I'll have to verify your ID."
"Okay! do your job."
I handed him the card and he dialled the number given on the card. The number was Vogue's official number, but Matty had hacked the line and redirected the calls to the his number for thirty minutes. I glanced at my watch.
Twenty minutes had passed till now, and I had assumed that the he will get over with the verification process quickly seeing a hot girl in front of him. But he was honest with his work to have not slipped away seeing a girl in front of him. I wanted to commend him for that.
He dialled the number while his eyes fixated on me. I tapped the fuel cylinder with my knuckles anxiously waiting for the verification to get over.
"Hello this is Mesocorp. We need to verify the ID of one of your employees, who is here to get our services. The number is..."
I eyed his features. He wore a suit with a white shirt and black tie. He was lean, had average height, his face spoke of his youth, I guessed he was not more than twenty two. Maybe he was an intern. His jaw was elongated and he had sparkling hazel eyes.
"-hmm. Okay. Okay." He hung up the call. His beautiful hazel eyes darted to me." you're good to go."
He handed me over the hard, I pocketed it, while he pressed the button for the long bar to rise and give a way to me.
I drove into the parking lot. It was an underground parking lot, well lit, ventilated, and clean. I sniffed as I drove in checking for any odour wafting in the air.
The parking lot had several sections, bikes parked onto one side, cars onto the other there was a huge division in the middle with a round wall that encased the lift.
I drove slowly towards the open space and parked myself.
A few meteres to the left behind me were the emergency stairs, so I thought this place would be the best, because in this way I would be able to keep an eye on each entrance.
I stepped down from the bike and traversed in the parking lot, secretly eyeing the cars parked in it, cameras, looked around if there was anyone while I pretended that I was texting. I also looked around for Ashton's bike to make sure that he wouldn't exit through the building's exit.
My eyes wandered in the parking lot till it locked onto the black bike with a blue bird sticker on it, which was parked approx ten meteres away from my bike. I was sure now that he would be coming in my direction to fetch his bike.
I smoothly dialled a number and pressed the phone to my ear.
"Hello? Yeah love. No. No. I don't think that would be a good choice for you. I think that purple suits you best. And if its not your favorite then, I think you can go with yellow. Yeah blue is here too. You want it?...Okay!"
I hung up the call and scrolled the app drawer on my phone left to right using my thumb. I wasn't about to open any app, I just had made it look like I was doing something whereas in real, all my senses were fixated.
A black van smoothly wheeled into the parking lot and parked into the line of cars that were near the lift.
Now we had got it all covered.
I kept pretending that I was preoccupied on phone traversing in the parking lot while Matty and Josh waited for Ashton to come. It was time.
Josh
Mia signalled us to come into the parking lot. We had decided that we'll take separate routes and she'll go first so that no one suspects us. Matty played well when the gate guard verified Mia's ID. Matty deepened his voice and talked to him on phone that gave the perfect impression that guard was actually talking to the CEO of Vogue. Matty had made a fake identity of me and him being guards of other agency and we told him that we were sent to have a chat about the services they provided because our company actually thought their services were better than us and we would like to offer a deal. Pfft.
We rolled our black van silently into the parking lot.
I slid the door open and stepped out of the van. I stretched out my arms to release muscle tension and called Matty out.
He refused my offer.
I inserted my hands into my jeans pockets and began kicking the broken pieces of concrete that was under my feet.
The broken piece flung straight, bumped into the wall and got crushed into powder. I knew Mia was standing at the left, behind us but I didn't look into her direction. I kicked some more pieces of concrete whistling my favourite tune.
We were playing as safe as possible but, I just wanted to talk to her.
Seeing her standing meters away from me and not talking to each other was drearily painful, it bred an unsettling sensation in my heart which made me crack my fingers and fidget. I pulled out my phone to text her.
Mia
All good?
My phone beeped.
All good. Never been better.
Keep your eyes open, its time.
The unsettling sensation eased a little, it also generated an urge to walk up to her.
I wriggled my toes under my shoes chewing my lower lip and crushed all the urges for our plan to work.
We had mapped out the whole parking lot. There were two ways to either exit from the building or enter into the building. One, through the elevators, the other through the emergency stairs. The main building entrance was not of our concern because Ashton had parked his bike in here and he was going to fetch it. How will someone leave their bike stranded and go. I wouldn't.
Mia was standing near the emergency stairs and we were parked near the most used way of entering into the building--the elevators. I pulled out a thin rubberband out of my pocket and began playing with it.
The elevator door pinged.
I slowly turned around like I was humming a song in my mind. I didn't wanted to prance on him because in this way he'll be prepared for counter attack.
There was an old lady who appeared fragile--like she would stagger and fall anytime and crack her bones. She was wearing a knee length pink coat, a loosely hanging flowery dress, and pearl necklace and earrings that looked like it costed a fortune. She had short grey curly hairs. Wrinkles crowded her face which made me guess quick that she was in her eighties. She opened her bag with her shaky hands and took out a cigarette and lighter.
Not good for you grandma.
She stepped out and a tall black man well suited up with earpiece on his ear stepped out along with her. He guided her and watched her steps as she put the cigarette onto her lips and tried to ignite it as she scuffed.
Not our man.
I hummed Rise by Jonas Blue and fidgeted with the rubber band. The whole parking lot was swallowed by silence. Soothing LED lights ignited the whole parking lot. I turned my neck to look at Matty.
He was playing candy crush on his phone. A piece of Cloth and chloroform was kept ready beside him. The smell didn't had an affected until you have inhaled much. The bottle we had wasn't a leaking bottle so we were not going to blackout. The elevator went back after dropping the lady, I glanced at my watch.
It was 8.20.
Anytime now.
I took out my phone and opened the gallery for time pass, while eyes at the back of my head were pinned on the elevator, my eyes were pricked, any scuffing noise will alert me if someone was approaching me from behind. I opened Mia's picture on the phone and I don't know why I couldn't stop my eyes from lingering on her photograph.
The elevator door pinged and somebody stepped out. My eyes darted up, I took a deep breath in, quickly pocketed my phone, then I turned around.
Ashton.
I let him walk past me and gestured Matty to get the cloth ready. Matty's mouth dropped open. He mouthed back to me.
"Are you nuts! You do it."
I pursed my lips, pointed at Ashton, then mouthed back" He's going to get away, now go."
Matty rolled his eyes in response and slid open the van's door without making a sound. I walked briskly behind Ashton to catch up and called out to him.
"Hey!"
Ashton turned back.
"Buddy you dropped this dollar bill."
"Sorry bro its not mine." Ashton pushed the dollar bill away.
Matty went around the cars carefully not to sound off any car's alarm. Then he walked back from behind while I engrossed him in a conversation with me.
"Ah sorry, I thought it was yours because I didn't see anyone passing by."
"It's okay bro." He smiled. My eyes darted to Matty who was tiptoeing towards him.
"Ah- do you know any Joel Moreen?" I interrupted as he turned to walk away." He's my friend he works here."
"Ah dude I'm sorry I don't know him. I've not been here long." He shrugged.
"Oh-I thought..."my eyes darted to Matty who was almost there."-I thought they make you go through bone cracking trainings and then place you in field work."
"No no we give exams first, then they take our aptitude test and then we have to pass the final physical tes-" Matty jumped on his back and pressed the cloth into his nose. He swirled to trying to get rid of Matty's grip but Matty didn't let go, he hung onto his back while his feet were dangling freely in air. He was too short for Ashton.
I clamped my mouth to supress my laughter, yet a short smile formed on my lips no matter how hard I tried. I felt bad for him that he had to do all the struggle alone. I lanced forward to help him.
I pressed the cloth into his nostrils from the front that finally made him inhale the smell of chloroform as he gasped for breath.
He rolled his eyes and plonked on the floor. We quietly picked him up and hurried to the van and shut the door. I knew through my instincts that Mia was keeping an eye on us, so we drove out without her. We went through the security without a problem and headed towards Matty's apartment.
Mia
Matty and Josh had done an excellent job although it was foolish of Josh to assign Matty the task. I knew he did it for fun but this could have jeopardized the whole mission. I sighed peacefully that our task was finally over, it was time to go.
I extended my hand for the bike helmet that I had slid onto the rearview mirror of the bike.
Somebody wrapped his arm around my neck and began strangling it with his arm. I choked and gasped for air, muffled screams of struggle gushed out of my throat.
I slid my fingers around his arm, gripped his arm using both of my hands and tried to free my neck of his grip.
While doing so, I got a glimpse of his arm that was strangling my neck. It was donned in something black and he had an infinity tattoo on his wrist.
Black coat? A bodyguard?
I brought my elbows down with full force and hit his ribs.
He groaned but didn't let go off my neck. My eyesight was slowly blurring away.
"Quick!" He called out to somebody.
A man wearing a black suit jogged to the cloth fallen on the floor near the elevator.
It was the same cloth Matty had used. I widened my eyes in shock and wriggled even harder, jumped, tried to hit his nose with my head, he was too strong for me. I began kicking my legs and he lifted me up.
"Take it."
He loosened his grip for a split second and tightened again. I felt a plush fabric on my nose that gave out a foul smell.
The stench smell of chloroform travelled into my nose despite how much I tried to hold my breath. I was too exhausted with the struggle, I inhaled some more of the smell repelling the force of his arm that was around my shoulder and he was pressing it down making it hard to breathe.
Fuck! I'm being kidnapped.
My eyesight started to dwindle and accepted the blurring. I no longer protested, my mind swirled like I had just stepped down from a mary-go- round and everything- the poles, white ceiling lights, cars, the number plate, the grey walls faded into darkness.
The life force in me abated, petered out and I, fell freely into his arms.
