Shut Up

I never thought I'd be in some American themed diner with my English teacher after crying my eyes out for a pair of glasses I almost didn't get. I don't think this is real. Am I dead? Finally.

"You see something you'd want to eat?" Mic is looking at the selection of drinks they have on his menu. I don't really care what I eat. If it's edible it's going in my stomach.

"Oh I'll just get a cheese burger." I just picked what looked the cheapest without making it seem like I'm eating nothing. If my assumptions are correct then Yamada Sensei is like a mother hen. Wonder how Shinsou lives with it.

"And what about you guys? You're awfully quiet." Mic places his menu down to look at the kids. Haru isn't even looking at the menus, he's just staring at the coloring book placed in front of him. Toshi is pointing out the colors of the crayons that they were given to Haru as if he was colorblind. Sumie and Kai are sharing a menu, but they're on the side which only shows desserts. Koji seems to be the only one actually trying to figure out what he's looking at, which makes me thankful that he's the oldest. Soon he tugs on the sleeve of my jacket, so naturally I go down to his height.

"I don't know what these are." He points to the menu's choices even though they have pictures right next to them. The other kids turn to Koji before looking at me. I know they can all read even Sumie and the twins, but that's not what they're asking exactly. I think they're trying to ask which one tastes good.

"Can I see your menu, Koji?" He hands over his menu and I look at the choices. Why is broccoli an option? Who abuses their children that much to get them broccoli and why is it so damn expensive? The cheapest option is chicken tenders and french fries.

So chicken and fries it is.

"They'll just get the chicken tenders." I give Koji back his menu so he can color it like the rest of them.

The amount of purple Sumie is using on one bunny is concerning....

"Good choice!" Mic collects my menu and stacks them on the side of the table. As soon as he does that one of the waitresses makes her way over to us. Maybe that's a way to signal them that we've finished deciding.

"Have you gentlemen figured out your meal?" She picks up the two menus and places two tall glasses of water in front of both Mic and I. Then she grabs five disposable cups with straws from another table and puts it in front of the kids. They look at me before I nod my head so they can drink. Toshi helps Kai hold his drink with his two hands before picking up his own. I'm glad they don't fight or hate each other like other brothers might.

"Yeah I'll get three bacon burgers with a coke soda and some fries on the side." The waiter scribbles something down in her notepad before looking at me.

"Okay. And for you?" Her hand is right above her notepad waiting for me so she can write down my order and get on with her day. She looks tired.

"I'll just get a cheeseburger, and they'll have two chicken tender and fries meal." I say with a smile.

"Will that be all?" She raises her eyebrow. Clearly she's judging my order cause what teenager doesn't abuse the power to get anything they want especially when it involves food? Me. I'm that teenager.

"For now, yes." Mic replies for me. I'm actually surprised no one has recognized him by now. Either that or everyone is just amazing at keeping their cool. If that's the case then hats off to them cause I could never.

"Your orders will be out soon." She walks back to the kitchen that's behind the counter where you could see a man flipping burgers. Well, isn't that just cool.

"Only two orders? You sure you guys won't get hungry?" Mic frowns at me before taking a sip of his cold water.

"They're small. They don't each much anyway and I ate before I came." I in fact did not eat beforehand, but does he really need to know that? No. The answer is no. He doesn't.

"Ah okay. We'll let me introduce myself to these little rascals! Hi little listeners! I'm Denki's teacher!" He exclaims. His arms are flying everywhere which I guess means he's excited? "And also Pro Hero Present Mic." he moves a bit closer to the kids to whisper. At the word Pro Hero they lose their tension and immediately look at me. I know what they want to do, I know what they want to ask, but as usual the answer is no. I can never let them do that again, not after last time. Silently without catching Yamada Sensei's attention I shake my head no. To that they just turn their focus back to him.

It's a good awkward minute before Koji decides to break it, "Do you know Fatgum?"

Mic beams at the question. He's probably happy that they decided not to keep their silence. Especially since he's a chatty type of guy. Someone who Kaminari would really get along with.

"Of course! He's my buddy! Reminds of you a bit with your hair!" He's not wrong, their hair is very similar. That's probably why Koji likes him so much. He makes Koji feel like he fits in with this whole Japan lifestyle.

Koji's eyes light up and Mic wears the same facial expression. I tap on Koji's shoulder and he calms down from excitement. Fat Gum is his favorite pro hero, I was even planning on getting him an action figure as well as the glasses.

"The one with the bunny ears too?" Sumie imitates bunny ears by putting her pointer fingers above her head and bending them. She's too cute honestly.

"Miruko? A bold gal she is, I know she'd love you!" Sumie smiles before picking up her purple crayon again.

"The laughing one too?" Toshi asks for his brother and him.

"Ms. Joke? Oh we're VERY close." They probably are from how much obsessing she does over Aizawa. I'm glad the twins find her entertaining though, they don't get happy much.

There's another pause in the conversation and I'm guessing Mic is waiting for Haru to ask about a hero he likes as well, but all he does is silently stare back at him. It's not like I was expecting Haru to talk anyway. He rarely does.

"What about you little listener?"

...

For a second Haru looks as if he's about to reply before giving up and turning to me. He looks as if he wants help. For a translation? Maybe Mic talks too fast for him to try to understand.

"He doesn't talk." Koji tells him. Koji always acted like their older brother, which in some way he is, so he usually speaks up for Haru when the situation needs it.

"Oh."

The twins go back to coloring some bird purple with Sumie. Why were they given so many purple crayons?

"He can speak, he just chooses not to. What he can't do is hear." I correct Koji, but he's already lost interest in the conversation. Right now he's trying to get Haru to smile without using his quirk which on most days is hard.

"He's deaf?" Mic looks back at me in concern. I remember him talking about it to us the first day of class. About how he has hearing aids and being a pro hero with a disability. He's the reason why we had a bakusquad cuddle moment with Bakugou after he explained that sometimes he couldn't hear things well. Kirishima is supposed to talk with him privately on letting Mic know so he could help him, but I haven't heard any updates on that.

"Yeah, he can barely hear loud sounds, not even screaming works no matter how close to him we are. He gets by with just guessing with vibrations, facial expressions, and lip reading." I glance back at Haru only to see Koji poking his face. Again.

"Was he born with it?" Mic pulls me back to the conversation at hand.

"Hm? No, it's cause of his quirk. When he first manifested it, it went haywire and it caused him to lose his hearing. Before that he was able to hear perfectly fine, though he's okay with the events that occurred. He's doing a lot better and he was fast to grasp sign language." Which is true, but whether it's because his parents practically beaten it into him or because of Mr. Eto, I don't know.

"Did you ever think about getting him hearing aids?" Excuse my language, but do I look like I'm made out of fucking money?! Of course I've thought about it, almost every day. Every day I see him practicing sign language with Koji, since he's the best at it besides me or Haru, or sometimes I see him having to write on paper so Toshi can understand so he can explain to his brother and sign back his answer for him since Kai isn't able to. It pains me to see him struggling everyday because of something I couldn't stop.

"Well I did in the beginning, but he told me to stop trying because he doesn't want them. Once we get his quirk figured out and in control then we can get his hearing back. He'd rather wait until then" He deserves more. They all deserve so much more.

"If you don't mind me asking, what's his quirk?"

"His quirk? It has to do with his nerves and vibrations. We never tested it out again because we didn't want him to possibly get injured again, so I can't say for certain." I don't even know if what his files say is true or not. I just had to believe it since Haru never wants to talk about that day.

"Do they all have quirks that hurt them?" He frowns at the kids. They're all just coloring now. Koji seemed to have given up on making Haru laugh, but seeing the small smile on Haru's face and the concentrated face on Koji's I think he did it.

"I never really thought about it, but no it's only the twins and Haru that have quirks that seriously harm them."

"What about the other two?"

"Sumie has some sort of a variation of a healing quirk and Koji is allowed to twist people's emotions." Sumie and Koji look up at us. They're both giving goofy smiles as if they've done something stupid and bad and they know it. I don't see any crayon markings on anyone's faces and no penises drawn on the sheet of paper, so I'll just assume they did nothing wrong.

"Would you care to elaborate?"

I feel like we're playing twenty questions here and somehow someway I'm losing.

"Koji has the ability to make other people's emotions the same as his. Before when he'd cry, everyone in the house would cry as well, but he's gotten better at it now. And Sumie basically uses thread like material so sew things together. It's pretty cool since she used a flower to sew a dress she had back together again, but also scary since she could accidently use her skin as thread to sew something." I remember when Koji first came he didn't know how to control his quirk and when I first met him he made me face a whole lot of fear. It didn't bother me much and I didn't think much of it either, but now I wonder why I haven't said anything to the people who dropped him off at Mr. Akagi's house.

"Those are some pretty strong quirks there! Recovery Girl would love having Sumie around." The waitress comes back with our food and Mic grabs the plates and passes them to the kids before taking his. She silently walks away and I almost bring up the fact that she forgot Mic's drink, but I see him happily sipping at it.

"Yeah, she would." I mumble before taking a bite out of my sandwich. I peek at the kids to make sure they're eating, which thankfully they all are. Even Kai, though Toshi is the one that's feeding him.

"You said something about the twins? The have a quirk that hurts them?" Mic is already done with one of his sandwiches which is inspiring honestly.

You ask a lot of questions

"In short they can't be separated for long." Why does he want to know so much about them anyway?

"Why's that?"

All Might, am I talking to Midoriya here?

"They have a joint quirk, kind of. Kai basically has a quirk that causes chaos as I'd like to say, but in reality his also focuses on vibrations, except it's both internal and external. He releases these violent tremors and it starts internal then external. So it causes him to feel those tremors first which he usually can't control. Which is where Toshi comes in. His quirk basically nullifies it. He makes everything calm, a little too calm. Sometimes when they're separated long enough Toshi can stop his heart and Kai can cause a stroke, but they rarely leave each other's side anyway. Toshi also has to concentrate on always keeping his quirk on when Kai is around since without it Kai faces his tremors." Which sometimes Toshi can't do because he has some sort of ADHD. Which reminds me, I have to buy us a refill of that medication.

"That is dangerous! Have you found someone who can nullify both?"

Yes, but their parents are pieces of shits who don't allow their kids to be happy.

"Ah no, not yet, but hopefully one day I will find someone." I watch the "twins" color the bird right next to a very purple bunny. Sumie is making smiley faces in the ketchup before taking a bite of the fry, only to do it again. And Koji is sounding out words to Haru from all over the diner.

Change the topic Denki

"So you said you wanted to talk to me about something?" I take the last bite of the burger before realizing I ate it all. I kind of want more, but I'd rather not throw it up later. The less I eat, the less comes back up.

"Ah yes, I almost forgot! It's about your grades." Oh well that's not a fun topic. I already know how this conversation is gonna go, I've had one with Mr. Aizawa before.

"I know they're not the best, but I'm trying I swear." I try pleading with him because I actually am trying. I know everyone thinks I just slack off, but right after work I study and get all my work done. Even if it's at the expense of my sleep, I'll do it. I'm basically made up of energy anyway, I don't need to sleep anymore, no matter how much I want to.

"Oh no it's nothing like that. Though Mr. Aizawa is the person to talk to if you do want to talk about that. What I wanted to discuss in particular is your English grade." My English grade? I actually don't know what that one looks like. No one knows until Mic tells us because all he does is puts either a smiley face or a frowny face on top of our papers. He leaves marks showing what we got wrong, but he says he wont tell us our grade because he'd rather us not stress. I don't even think he gives frowny faces just because you failed too, I've seen Bakugou get a frowny face on his test but only 3 marks on his paper. When he went to check why he got it wrong Mic said he's seen Bakugou do better so that's why he got a frowny face. And that's why he's my favorite teacher.

"Is it bad?"

"Bad?! If you call being top of the class bad then sure!" I must be hearing things.

"I-I'm top of the class? How?!"

"Denki your English skills are amazing, I'm impressed! Soon there will be nothing I can teach you." He exclaims before taking another sip of his drink that's basically gone.

"Tha-that's impossible." There's Momo, Todoroki, Bakugou, Midoriya, and Iida in my class. There's no way in hell that I'm top. This must be a joke somehow.

"But it isn't. Your essays are my favorite to read, don't tell the others I said that. You always talk about something your passionate about, even if you talk about something "silly" you still give it your all. Your last one was about how you liked American food, so that's why I brought you here."

"Oh." That makes sense, I think?

"How'd you learn English, if you don't mind me asking?" He dips his fries in the ketchup before swirling it around a bit. Weird, but okay.

"I- Uh read a lot. I spent hours at the library when I was younger, so after reading above my grade level I decided to do something challenging. So I took up English and the librarian helped me." Though I'm glad I did that because it made me able to understand Koji when he came from America and it made it a lot easier to teach him Japanese, which I'm surprised he learned so quickly.

"Your parents must be proud." No, not exactly. I'm pretty sure my "dad" didn't even know I was born and my mother sure enough didn't care. They don't know a single thing about me. Not even my name. Mr. Akagi is the one who gave it to me.

"Yeah, they sure are." I chuckle. Liar.

"Have you ever thought about tutoring?"

"Yeah Momo helps me with some classes though for math I usually go to Bakugou. He's a bit scary, but I finish all my work with him." I remembered last time I studied with him I didn't knock on his door before opening it and I may or may not have seen him straddling Kirishima's hips. But I vowed not to tell a soul, I'd probably die if I did anyway.

"No I meant as in you tutoring. I know you'll be able to help others with your skill level." Yeah sure, and then I'd get made fun of in the process because dunce Kaminari shouldn't know anything about English. He's already struggling with Japanese when he goes into his stupid mode, so why struggle more?

"I don't know. I don't think I'll have time." That's actually true. I can't tutor if I have to work at the restaurant and the grocery store. It'd be perfect if I charged, but Momo and Bakugou don't charge so I shouldn't either. Not like I'm gonna actually do it anyway.

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I have a job that I go to frequently. Plus my dad works often so I watch over the kids as well." Remember what you told Aizawa. Don't mix anything up.

"Well they can always come to the dorms if needed! There's no policy against it!"

"Yeah, Mr. Aizawa mentioned it." I just didn't think he was serious. I thought he was just trying to find a way to get me to shut up, which worked either way.

"If you want you can bring them over next week as a test run. They'll get to meet Class 1-A and some of the teachers so if they do stay they'll already be comfortable with the situation."

"I'll think about it, thank you." I take the last final sips of my not so cold water. I wonder if the kids finished already? I take one look at them to confirm that yes they did, and they are bored.

The kids are basically poking the food at this point. They don't eat much when I make them food too, so I guess their stomachs just aren't used to it. But they did eat one serving of the food, so the leftovers will be their dinner for a while.

"I also wanted to mention something about a pro hero who wanted to help you gain more control over your quirk. We looked into it and though you don't have similar quirks, with your similar personalities I think it'll be a good match! He'll be able to teach you things that will help you in the long run. We'll talk about this more with Mr. Aizawa of course because he's still hesitant about it. He's just a protective dad, don't mind him! The pro hero is very experienced, you'll love him! I'm pretty sure you already kn-."

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but do you know what time it is?" My phone is dead. Again. I can't charge it like I might "usually" do, since I need it to stay awake later. It's a weekend so I'll need my energy. I can't go passing out on him again. He didn't like that very much. Ha. He doesn't like a lot of things about me.

"It's a quarter till 8. Is there somewhere you needed to be?" Yamada Sensei checks the watch on his wrist before raising an eyebrow at me. Shit.

Come back by 8. He said to be home by 8. It's almost 8 and I need to take the bus home, but I'm basically across town and I NEED to hurry.

"I- uh yes! I'm sorry to cut this short, but I need to go back home! Come on kids, we're leaving." I wave my hand towards the waiter and she makes her way over to us. "Excuse me but is there a to go plate I could possibly get?"

"Of course, I'll bring one right away." She walks back into the kitchen before coming back out with a plate and a bag.

"Thank you!" I take the kids' food and hurriedly put it in the bag. "Let's go." Mic gets out of the booth to allow the kids to shimmy their way out too. I hand Koji the bag with the food inside and he holds it close to his chest as if he's protecting it. Cute, but now's not the time to be gushing.

"Did you need a ride back home?" Mic drops a couple of bills down on the table, probably paying more than what he should've before walking us to the door.

"Oh no, we'll just take the bus." I adjust my bag on my shoulder and double check to make sure everything is still inside.

"You seem to be in a hurry." He points out.

"It's not that far, we'll be fine!" It is actually quite the distance before we even take the bus. It might even take a bit longer since they kids look a little tired. I never planned on staying out this late especially when I have them with me.

"If you say so."

"Thank you for all you've done today, Yamada-Sensei!" I bow to him and the kids smile even Haru gives him a soft smile.

"No problem at all!" He gives me his signature smile before readjusting his glasses.

I usher the kids out the door before walking back to where Present Mic is standing. I pull him into a hug. He returns it and honestly it's one of the best feelings I've ever had. I don't want it to end. I want him to keep being proud of me. I grip harder on his cat cardigan.

"Don't let me go back." I whisper to him. It's barely audible but I knew he heard it. He had to. I feel him hold me a bit closer than before, but it all ends too soon when I pull away and rub at my eyes.

"Good bye, Yamada-Sensei!" I wave back him without looking before walking out and taking Kai's hand. I didn't look back. I couldn't see his face, but I already knew what it looked like.

I fucked up. Big time.
