Seriously
"Denki are you okay?!" My teacher rushes up to come to my aid, but I don't need him to.
My eyes flicker away from him and onto Mr. Akagi. His eyes are staring right back at me with his lips pressed.
Don't say a word
"Yeah I'm fine, just fell down the stairs earlier today." My right hand is barely able to hold up the cup, so it's spilling everything everywhere. Mr. Akagi is shuffling in his seat, as if he was unable to sit still. He wants to do something, but he can't. My teacher is here and he wouldn't dare do anything in front of a Pro Hero.
"Oh uh, here's your water! I'm gonna go get something to clean that up." I shove the water into his chest and wait till he finally grasps it. I give him another reassuring smile and try my best at not limping away. Though my back and well something else is aching, but it can't stop the burning questions going through my mind.
Why did Mr. Aizawa come here?! Is it my grades? Did he find out something?! God Denki you idiot!
Once I make it in the kitchen I try to find anything that resembles a paper towel. Which reminds me I need to buy paper towels. I can see that there's one of my old shirts in the corner of the sink. I must've left it there when I was cleaning last time. Deciding that it's a good enough rag I take it and hobble back to them, but when I come back I can see Mr. Aizawa looking suspiciously at the cup of water I gave him earlier and Mr. Akagi talking to the kids. What's worse is that they look absolutely frightened.
"S- sorry, I'll bring them back upstairs. They should've known better to not be here when adults are talking." I give my teacher a soft chuckle and try my best not to look back at Mr. Akagi who is definitely scowling. "C'mon kids let's go." I usher them up the stairs and into the boys' room.
"Denki, who is that?" Toshi asks while holding his shivering brother up.
"It's just my teach-."
"Will he take you away?" He quickly adds.
"N-no."
I'm not entirely sure actually
"He's just going to talk to Mr. Akagi, okay?" I lift Kai up and away from his brother even though my wrist hurts like hell. I'll have to hurry up and calm him down.
"But the other teacher took you away!"
Ah yes, I remember. My teacher saw my bruises one day and didn't allow me to stay at my house for a week. She assumed the injuries came from home, which is true, but I couldn't let her know that. So I got in fights so it'd make it seem like I was bullied. She changed my classrooms, so I never had her as a teacher again and she didn't have to worry about some random foster kid. To the kids it must've been scary since I was gone for so long. Plus they were younger and more gullible to believe Mr. Akagi was sweet, but now they know.
I wish they didn't
"I'll be okay, promise." I set Kai down to let Toshi's quirk work. His breathing is still shaky and I'm now realizing this kid might have asthma. That definitely isn't something you'd want with his quirk. I'll have to schedule a doctor's appointment.
Don't forget
"Stay safe." I close the door behind me and I could hear the rustling inside soon followed by a click. They'll be fine.
"So you're here for Denki?" I can hear Mr. Akagi ask the question, but it looks as if Mr. Aizawa is distracted. He's looking up at me from where I stand which is in front of the boys' room. Not wanting to draw anymore attention towards me I quickly walk down the stairs. Soon Mr. Aizawa realizes that he was asked a question. I see him trying to figure out what he just heard.
"Oh um." He clears his throat. "Yes, I wanted to state that everything involving the kidnapping has been cleared up. Bakugou is safely back with his parents."
That statement is probably the best news I've heard all week. I want to scream, jump up and down. Hell, I'd even kiss Bakugou! But I can't. Cause Mr. Akagi hates loud noises, but Mr. Aizawa knows I'm always loud. Being conflicted I just go back to cleaning up the water mess on the floor.
"Really? That's fantastic." It's the best I can come up with to please at least one of them though that leaves me with Mr. Aizawa looking at me as if I have two heads. Which at this point, do I?
"So, what does that have to do with Denki? What was the purpose for coming to my house for?" Mr. Akagi isn't happy. And when he's not happy things can get messy. Like really messy, and they never go back to normal after that because even though you said no he won't stop.
He never stops
"Well since we noticed that the League of Villains have been targeting the school, Denki's class to be exact, we thought the students could use some more protection. Something to put both parents and students at ease. So we decided to have dorms at the school. Ones where the students can live in, they'll be there the whole week, so you don't have to worry about transportation and they can visit on weekends or after school hours. What I'm saying is we wanted to get your permission to allow Kaminari to stay there before they moved in."
That. Sounds. AMAZING.
"Take him, but I want him back every weekend." Mr. Akagi gives me that same crooked smile.
"Well it's settled. Denki, You'll be staying at UA for school now."
I can't wait to tell Mr. Eto and the kids!
Shit.
The kids
"No I can't." I look at Mr. Akagi. "D- da-." I hesitate to say it, remembering previous moments when I was forced to say it. "Mr. Akagi please."
"Is there a problem?" My teacher looks between us.
"Uh yeah. My-." I look at Mr. Akagi and he's smiling. He wants me to say it. I shut my eyes. "Dad goes to work during the afternoon, so I usually watch the kids."
Mr. Aizawa can clearly see the tension between us. He's not dumb, he knows something's up. "If you want I'll let you figure out something and if that doesn't work then they can stay at U.A., but you'll be the one responsible for them."
I feel as if I could cry
"Really?"
"Yeah I could talk it over with Principal Nezu, but at the moment I don't see why not. Do you have any other concerns?" I could see the tiredness in his eyes. He's probably been staying up more than usual because of Bakugou. Hopefully he'll get more sleep now since he's been rescued.
Did Kirishima's plan work?
"No." Mr. Akagi is pleased with the outcome, I know he is, but I'm not.
"Yes." I look at Mr. Aizawa.
"What is it now?" I can tell he's fed up with my shit right now, but I actually do have some problems with moving into this dorm.
"I have a job, and I would like to not be fired." I'll admit I've seen my teacher look at me surprisingly when I've done something that has slightly impressed him, but I wouldn't have though that having a job would be one of those moments.
"Anything you do outside of school does not concern me. You'll be able to keep your job if the hours don't interfere with school hours, but judging by how you want to keep the job I'm assuming you've had this job for quite some time?" I nod my head in agreement. Seven years has been quite some time. "If need be our cameras will pick up anything funny"
"Of course." Did he honestly think I was lying about this? Like come on, it's not like I was some school traitor. Jeez, can't a guy just have money problems? We've all been there before, right? No? Okay I'll stop talking to myself.
"Well then, that concludes my stay. I'll be heading out now, thank you for your time Mr. Kaminari. Denki, could you show me out?" The door is right there, why does he need help walking two steps?
Just leave already, dammit
"Yeah sure." I start the very brief walk to the door with him, still holding the wet clothes rag thingy.
I'm making myself seem like Cinderella, if I'm being honest here.
Where's my Prince Charming?
"You know, it was very difficult to find where you lived Kaminari." He silently informs me once we reach the door.
"Uh- um really?" I know what he's talking about, but I'd rather not admit to myself that a year ago Denki was dumb. Like dumb dumb.
"Yeah, got sent to some library." Well.
"Oh really?! I remember spending a lot of time there to cram, so I filled out my form in the library. Must've written down the library's address, sorry about that." I grin sheepishly. Yeah I'd rather not tell him that I didn't consider my house a home to put the address. Next time.
Hopefully
"Then how'd you get your acceptance letter and everything else that was sent to the house?"
"I spent a lot of time there."
"Then what about those children?"
"They came with me."
"But that doesn't make sense as to why you didn't realize the mistake and correct it."
Well when you realize your guardian threw away your package with medicine used for burn cream since you kept shocking yourself in and out of school then everything comes together.
So yeah it does make sense
"Why did you spend so much time there?" Didn't I already tell you? I'm spending too much time talking to him actually. Mr. Akagi already left his seat and I don't know where he went after that.
Let's hope it's the bathroom
"To study." He raises his eyebrow as if he doesn't believe my statement. "I didn't just get into the school with pure luck!"
"You're right, sorry." He pinches the bridge of his nose in aggravation. "Can we have this talk outside, maybe you wouldn't be so tensed with some fresh air."
Normally I'd say yes to avoid suspicion, but he's been suspicious since the beginning. Saying yes just might confirm something he's trying to prove, and it's already been awhile since I've checked up on the kids.
"I'm fine. Nothing you can tell me will be that bad right?" I try to brush it off, but my mistake was looking at his expression.
It's that bad
"Let's go outside." He opens the door and signals for me to follow him, but I don't
"I don't want to be rude Teach, but I gotta go make breakfast soon." Excuses, excuses. Little lies to cover my weaknesses. It's harmless really, but I wish I didn't need them.
"Will those kids be fine without you?" His eyes look past me and up at the boys' room. I know he knows something's up with the door and the way the kids acted around Mr. Akagi, but I need him to forget about all of that and if I have to go outside to do that then dammit I'm going outside.
"Yeah, they'll be just fine!" I take his wrist and basically drag him out the door. If anyone asks I guided him out. I shut the door behind me, careful to not make any loud noises as if the squeakiness from it being so fricking old isn't enough. "Soooo what's the tea?"
Just smile and say something random, it always works.
"Kaminari this is a very serious situation and I'm pretty sure you realized that."
Usually.
"I don't understand?" Panic begins to rise and I'm already thinking of multiple possibilities as to why he needed to talk to me privately. They're all negative which is no surprise there. "Am I being expelled?" Please say no.
I deserve to be
"No, nothing like that." He immediately shuts down the question. That makes me happy, I think.
Do I like attending U-
Yeah okay those thoughts have got to stop
"Oh, okay. Is that it?" I'm trying to make my little get away now, but as usual it's never that easy.
"No."
"Oh." I guess staying outside longer than expected won't kill me.
Yet
"Listen Kaminari, there's something going on in that house that I know you wouldn't like to discuss, but we have to. On your documents you crossed out father and put guardian. There is nothing filled in for mother, and now you apparently have five siblings about the age of 5 or 6 and they look nothing alike to you, that man inside, or each other except for those twins. I know this would be a sensitive topic, but you seem to have no problem showing it in your documents. So please when I ask this question please answer honestly. Are you an orphan?"
An orphan?
"An orphan?" My brows bunched and I know he knows I'm seriously thinking about this, but there's no way I can be an orphan.
I think
"I'm sorry if this is a sensitive-"
"I'm not an orphan."
"Oh, then your parents are both alive?"
"Yes."
I hope
"Are you staying with them?"
I hesitate to answer the question. I don't live with my parents, that part is obvious. I haven't even met or seen them, hell I don't even know if my mom has blonde hair or not. All I know is that they're alive, most likely.
"I'll take that as a no then."
"No!" I stop him. "Sorry, I meant yes I do live my parent. My dad. The guy you met inside, not the one at the library." Cracking jokes. Seriously, Denki?
"Kaminari, you and I both know that isn't your father."
"I've been with him since birth. He's taken care of me and the kids since they've gotten here. Yeah maybe he's not the biological father to any of them, but he's mine. I would know if he wasn't, right?"
"Jesus Kaminari, you flinched when you said his name. You know you can talk to me if anything's wrong. I know I seem like I don't care, but trust me I do. I want to help you with whatever is going on, but if you don't tell me then I can't help you."
"Thank you for the support, but I'm doing just fi-."
BANG
There's banging that could be heard from inside. I know that sound.
Don't tell me he's-
"Did that noise come from insi-."
"Well I gotta go now, but I'll see you soon, ya?!" I rush inside without giving him a second to stop me. I look up at the stairs to see what's happening. I've never ran up stairs faster than I am now, but dammit these kids need my help.
Please don't get yourself into this.
