Not enough
I'll admit, yesterday was fun except the whole I'm basically homeless fiasco. I know Shinsou won't keep the secret forever, but if he could give me time to think of something, literally anything, then everything will be okay. I just need to find a better place for the kids like an apartment for all of us, but then I won't be able to watch over them if I need to work and go- this won't work will it? Get you're shit together Denki, come on.
"You okay there kid?" Mr. Sho rests his hand on my shoulder and I remove my hands from my hair, which I just noticed were there.
"Yeah I'm fine, just worried." I let out a shaky breath. I don't know how he does it, but somehow every time I talk with him I always tell the truth. As if he'll know if I'm lying or not.
"Last minute jitters?" He questions though he knows the exact answer. "Listen Denki, I know you hate going back there and I hate seeing you go back too, but you can't stay with us forever. You and I, we're different from each other. You have hope in this world, same with Ethan. One day you will adopt him, I just know it. You would adopt all those kids if you were allowed to. Denki I see something in you that I don't even see in that hero, Hell Might."
"All Might."
"Unimportant. You don't have to be the number 1 hero, but I know you'd be the hero that would look out for us guys back here. You're the one that not only civilians, but villains would see the happiness you give. I have never seen Ethan this happy and jumpy till you came. I was always afraid of him running away when he got the chance, but now with you here I know he never will." He starts to tear up, which rarely happens so I'm gonna enjoy this moment.
"Denki I'll miss you, but just know that even if it's not from being kicked out, you can still come back here. Even if you just want to talk."
"T- thank you Mr. Sho."
"God, these adults are putting too much stress on you kids. I want you to enjoy your youth not shutter from it."
"I'm fine, it's nothing I can't handle."
"That's the worrying part." He wipes his tears with his gloves even though they're dirty. I've never seen him cry this much about me, maybe when I was little, but I barely remember anything that was pleasant in my past.
"Why you cry?" Ethan tugs on Mr. Sho's pant leg.
"Because this damn kid reeks." He quickly comes up with an excuse meaning Ethan has never seen him cry before.
"Don't mind him, Ethan. He's just like a grumpy bear." I wave off the situation before bending down to eye level with Ethan.
"Bear?"
"You know RAWR?" I bring my arms out to imitate a bear's. Ethan looks at me as if it was the best thing he's ever seen, so he does the same only to Mr. Sho this time.
"RAWR!" he tries to intimidate the old man.
"I love this kid."
"He better not turn into you. Cute as a kid, but a pain in the ass now." Mr. Sho grumbles.
"HEY, I'm a wonderful person!" I stand up only to watch him walk away.
"Okay let's not get ahead of ourselves now." He waves as a way of saying goodbye without crying. I know he'll miss me.
"Well anyway." I turn back to Ethan. "Bye Ethan, I'll be back soon."
"NOT TOO SOON!" Mr. Sho calls from the alleyway.
"Where are you going?" Ethan looks visibly upset now and I wasn't expecting it.
"I'm going home now." I take his hand to walk closer towards the exit.
"Denki. What's a home?" He stops halfway.
"I don't really know."
"Then how are you going there."
"It's a little different, but I promise I'll find us a home soon, okay?"
"Okay."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I miss Ethan. I can't get him off of my mind and the more I think about it the more I know I'll find a way to adopt him and Haru. I'll find homes for the other kids as well, but for now I'll focus on picking them up.
"Thank you Mr. Eto for watching them." I have what feels like 12 bags on my back and 5 kids sitting on the sidewalk.
"How was your trip?" He asks instead of accepting my thank you.
"It was something that's for sure."
"They work you kids too hard."
"I want to become a hero, so a little work won't kill me."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Perfect timing. I've managed to walk back here, get the kids, and make it to the house at 9 o'clock in the morning. Denki you are amazing.
Ok I'll shut up now
I'm just barely putting the key in the lock before it swings open and I'm being pulled inside. I was taken off guard that I didn't even realize what was happening until I felt a tingling sensation on my cheek. Did he just?
"So you decide to leave for days, not gonna tell me where you go and now you just want to stroll up in the house as if nothing happened?!" He's mad. Once again. I know he won't kick me out again, but it looks like he might do something crazy like hit the kids.
"Go upstairs!"
"But Den Den...." Sumie tries to stay with me at all costs, but I can't let her be here when he's acting like this.
"I SAID GO UPSTAIRS!" I rarely raised my voice towards the kids because sometimes they get startled and cry, but when I do in situations like this they know I'm being serious. I heard them all leave and the door closest to the stairs shut. Good, they went to the boys' room. As usual they probably locked the door and put a chair under the knob. Usually I stare at the door until I knew for sure they are safe, but Mr. Akagi didn't give me enough time to. He was already grabbing my neck and adding pressure.
My bruises just healed there too.
"Oh shut it!" He yells at me. I don't know what to do at this point. Hitting him with my shocks would probably put me immobile and the kids in danger, but if I continue like this surely I'd die.
"Pathetic." Luckily, not really, he drops me to the floor. I'm dry heaving on the ground. Any food I've eaten yesterday is gone by now, but I don't know if I'm more upset that there's nothing to throw up or happy. I don't get to think about it much since Mr. Akagi started kicking me. What is he even mad for? I only did what he said!
"Stand up!" I rush to stand, but just as fast as I stood up I started dodging. Mr. Akagi started throwing punches and knowing full well that I would not be able to cover any bruises on my face I use my arm as a shield instead. Which seemed like a great idea at the time went horribly wrong because I swear I felt something crack.
"Oh so you won't accept that punishment huh?" He stopped swinging and for a second I would've thought he calmed down, but then he smiles. That sinister smile with all his teeth showing and his eyes glaring.
No
Please no
"I know something you'd like instead."
I close my eyes hoping and praying that he won't do what I think he'll do, but I hear his belt unbuckle.
I hope the kids are okay.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I knock on the door three times with 5 second pauses in between them. I could barely hold myself up, but it's been an hour or so since I've seen the kids and I want to make sure they're okay.
"Denki!" Sumie hugs me tightly to which I tap her lightly with my left hand.
"Not so tight okay? Denki is a little sore right now." I croak. From the all the screaming and crying and the choking. Oh god the choking. I lift my left hand to my throat to feel nothing there. Sumie and the others are staring at me with wide eyes. I know they don't know what happened downstairs, but whenever I say I'm sore they know I'm not okay.
"C'mon let's get you guys unpacked." I limp into the room and walk over to the bags.
"No, it's fine Denki. We already unpacked." Koji's voice is shaky and I know he's trying his hardest not to cry in front of everyone especially since he's the oldest.
"That's good. Did you-." I start having a coughing fit. My throat is a little dry. "Did you have breakfast?"
"No." He shakes his head.
"Let's go down and I'll cook you something." I stumble on my way back to the door, but all the kids are still in the same positions.
"C'mon." I try to wave my right hand, but pang of pain stops me from doing so.
"Denki."
"Yes Toshi?"
"He's still down there." He's talking about Mr. Akagi, but he's sedated at the moment so this would be the best time to go get food.
"It's fine. He's all tired, so he won't hurt you."
"But he hurt you." That's when he finally breaks. All the kids, even Haru are crying.
"I'm fine. Look these are minor scratches. By tomorrow I'll be good as new!"
"Really?" Sumie whispers. I know they don't believe me, but it's the best I can do at the moment.
"Yeah, so let's go downstairs."
I would be lying if I said I thought they were going to follow me, but they did. So now I'm in the kitchen trying to figure out the expiration date on this gallon of milk when I hear the doorbell ring. I don't move since I'm not allowed to answer the door after a punishment. I know the kids are tense when Mr. Akagi gets out of his chair to answer the door and I am too. Who knows who just rung the doorbell and what mood they'll put our guardian in.
They must've not talked for long since Mr. Akagi already closed the door, but when I go back to resume my search of a date on the milk Mr. Akagi calls me.
"Denki bring some coffee for this kind gentleman and me." He calls from the living room. So I do what he says. We don't have coffee in the house so I'm just going to bring water instead. Hopefully the man waiting won't mind.
I walk into the living room with the water in both my hands till I see who is sitting with Mr. Akagi.
"Mr. Aizawa?!"
He turns away from the conversation he was having to look at me. His eyes widen in a moment's notice and I know he's already seen my bruises.
No. No please, you have to be joking.
