A tribute to Frisky

Today we said goodbye to a very dear friend: our dog of 13 years.

It was a very emotional time for us all. Half of us cried, and the half that didn't cry admitted that they were very close to doing so.

I would like to say that my last words to my dog were something very inspirational, but truth be told I was way too choked up to say anything.

I didn't write this to become emotional again, I wrote this to celebrate her life! And so I'm going to share some of my favorite memories involving Frisky, some sad and some happy.

So when my sister was about 5 (she's 10 now) she got this piece of chicken that she was very excited about. But before eating this chicken, she set it down and prayed over it. She looked up to find an empty spot where her chicken had been, and a very contented dog. Frisky, I vow to keep your record of stealing food alive. I will take your place and TAKE EVERYONE'S FOOD AS SOON AS THEY TURN AROUND.

Then there's always the times where my brother would dance with her by holding her front legs while she hopped around on her back ones. That was always fun to watch. :)

And how my brothers would put on dark clothing and sneak up on her while she was in the backyard, to see how she would react. Being the great guard dog she was, she would do everything in her power to keep them away from the house. Who's gonna guard our house now?

Frisky was always afraid of loud noises. Even if you popped a gum bubble, she would go running upstairs (where she wasn't supposed to go)! That's because when she was younger --we used to always lock her in her cage when she was a puppy-- there were fireworks and she freaked out. She was scared ever since then.

I remember when there was a thunderstorm she'd always come upstairs looking for comfort. Once she even jumped in bed with me.

The older she got, the worse behaved she got. Us kids would always say she didn't know what she was doing, but our Mom (who never wanted a dog) told us she was just being a brat. Even Mom was upset over her death. She would always get in our garbage. Who knew I would miss picking up trash?

But last but not least, there's my brothers last words to Frisky.

"Frisky, when you get to Heaven, tell them you're head of security reporting for duty."

Needless to say, I cried.

My Dad and my brother were the ones who took her to the vet today. They stepped out while it was being done, but after it was over they went back in, and they said she looked so peaceful. As painful as it is, we did the right thing.

We love you, Frisky. Now, and forever.
