"Newton! Wake up!"

I buried my head under the darkness of the pillow and pretended it was night. I couldn't see the point of getting up. I had nothing to look forward to. I know what you're thinking... Poor little rich boy. It's not as simple as that. My father died when I was twelve, leaving me with my controlling mother who doesn't care for anything but status. Except she has a deep love and very strong relationship with money, she'd marry it if she could. Whilst I have to marry whoever she decides for me. A girl. That's not who I am. Because there's this boy and I can't get him out of my head-the way his brown eyes sparkle, the way his lips curve into a smile, his voice. Everything. He doesn't even know I exist and I can't help thinking it's better for that. I don't even have a photo,he only exists in my memory. Though it's a very clear picture,I'm petrified someday it's going to fade-the way my hopes and happiness did after dad died.

The day consisted of me and my mother discussing her first love and only love-money. More meals, talk of the future and then my favourite part of the day... Seeing him.

What I forgot to mention, the boy... He works for my family. He's one of the assistants to my mother. I'd told her that I needed to get some more clothes so she chose the man of my dreams to chauffeur me around. So that's exactly what he did.

The ride was an awkward silence which I was desperate to break but didn't know how to. Until I chirped up with a simple question-

"What's your name?"

He ignored me. He stayed quiet until he saw the anger in my expression; so he cleared his throat and began to speak-

"I'm sorry if I seem rude. Your mother said I could only talk to you under extreme circumstances."

I scoff. Typical of her. "Well... She isn't here. Just please,I swear I won't tell her. What's your name?"

"Thomas."

My heart flutters as he says this. What a perfect name. A gentle smile plays on my lips as. I let out a heavy sigh "Why do you work for my mother? She's a brat."

"I wouldn't say that Newt..." Newt? I like it. I like him calling me that. "But I need the money."

He pulls up and opens the car door for me. We walk inside a shop, pretty empty as I look around. I manage to find a pretty nice shirt then look at the price tag and my eyes widen-what human in their right mind would pay more than a thousand pounds for a shirt?

"I'll take that..." Thomas clearly knew I liked the shirt as he folds it up in his arms "Anything else let me know. Your mother has said there is no limit to your spending. She also gave me a list of things she needs me to get for you." He gets it from his pocket. The list consists of- shirts,pants,books.. That's when I see it. On the paper in her crappy writing it says- engagement ring. My heart sunk but at the second time it roared like a protest that rallied against my ribs. I remember her telling me she wanted me to marry before I was twenty, currently I'm nineteen and four months. I couldn't believe this.

Thomas sees my shock as he sits me down "Just relax Newt?" He nods "I'll get everything on the list."

After about half an hour Thomas comes running back with bags full of everything mother wanted. Too many for someone to carry alone. He smiles kindly at me "Let's go Newt,or is there anywhere else you wanted to go?"

"Bookstore please!" I shoot up and he chuckles as we walk inside. This was my idea of heaven. I sprint off without Thomas, hoping he wouldn't follow as I head to the romance section. Picking up a book- I knew this book- it was two men. In love. I would never be allowed this and mother checks all the books in the house- in fact there's a maid who's employed by her to do that. So every time I go to this bookstore I try to get time alone to read a page or two, then continue off what I read when I come back. I had been reading that book for eight months,I had about sixty pages left and I was desperate to finish.

"Newt..." Thomas clears his throat "I don't think your mother would approve."

"Please don't tell her..." I beg.

"I wouldn't tell her." He watches me as I cradle the book in my arms, like it was my own child. Thomas exhales and walks closer "Newt, why are you reading this? Just interest?"

"It doesn't matter Thomas. You wouldn't believe me."

"I'll always believe you," he sighs and takes the book from my hands "I've read this book... The main character in it reminds me of you."

I gulp "What's the main character like?"

At that moment he looks directly into my eyes "Well... The book is about this amazing boy who achieves all of his dreams and gets everything he ever wanted. I know that'll happen with you too Newt. I don't need to tell you the ending because you're going to get just that. They don't check my room,in my room is my copy of this book-you are welcome to read it in there where nobody will go."

"Thank you..." I choke out-overwhelmed by his kindness "Thank you so much Thomas."

"Let's get you home," he smiles and puts the book on the shelf as we walk out. He puts the shopping bags in the boot as he begins to drive home. I let out a sigh as I rest my head against the glass- I didn't want to go home yet, just wanted to stay with someone kind, someone wonderful, for just a few minutes more.
