The Plights of Izuku Midoriya
It wasn't easy for Katsuki to tell his teachers that Izuku had directly disobeyed their orders and had left the school to effectively become a vigilante. It wasn't an easy task for a variety of reasons.
The first reason was that Katsuki was still angry. Who he was angry at was still up for debate. He wasn't sure if he was angrier at Izuku for abandoning him and endangering himself, or if he was angrier at Ashido for revealing his secret. It was hard to relay such serious information when Katsuki was stewing in his emotions.
The second reason was that it was hard to look at Aizawa and All Might when they looked so distraught and worried. Behind their palpable anger, that was. Aizawa looked like he was a second away from having an aneurysm and dying and All Might's usually open and happy expression was clouded over. Katsuki had seen both men angry before, but not to the degree that they were at that moment.
The third, and final, reason that Katsuki had such difficulty relaying the information to the adults was that they wanted proof, they wanted to read the letter themselves. Already, Katsuki's classmates had read the letter and cooed over the sweet words Izuku had written, Katsuki couldn't deal with the embarrassment he would no doubt feel when both Aizawa and All Might beheld Izuku's honeyed words.
"I see..." Aizawa grumbled as he handed the letter back to Katsuki. He didn't acknowledge the part about Izuku saying that he loved Katsuki, although his eyes had widened ever so slightly upon reading the particular portion. "That's just like him."
"We should have taken precautions to ensure that this didn't happen, we all know what Young Midoriya can be like," All Might sighed heavily. He looked his age as he leaned his head on his hands and muttered under his breath about how he had failed as a mentor.
"We had scarcely got him back here before he was off again, any precautions that could have been put into place would have been implemented too late to stop him anyway." Aizawa huffed. He turned to Katsuki and nodded his head in thanks, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention to, Bakugo. Don't go after him without our permission, make sure you're classmates know that as well. If I see any of you trying to go after him, you'll be on house arrest for the rest of your school career."
Katsuki had no doubt that Aizawa would keep his promise, he had expelled students for less in the past, house arrest was almost a mercy in comparison to the cruel and unusual punishment Eraserhead was capable of conjuring up.
When Katsuki made it back to Heights' Alliance, he came face to face with his entire class. He had been hoping to avoid them altogether, after all, they were just going to hassle him about his and Izuku's relationship. His theory was proven correct as soon as his nosy classmates' set eyes on him.
"Bakugo!" Ashido squealed, "You have to tell us everything about your relationship! Right now!"
"Yeah, I can't believe I'm not the only taken one in our squad anymore!" Kaminari grinned, "How's the taken life treating ya?"
"Did Izuku like you whilst we were dating? I don't mind, I just always thought he was distracted..." Uraraka smiled nervously, she twisted her shirt between her hands and rocked on her heels.
"Please do not let this affect your studies, Bakugo. Whilst you and Midoriya are both good students, relationships can cause a strain on a person's education-" Iida started to lecture, but he was quickly shushed by the majority of the class. They all had their questions that ranged from serious to downright stupid. They all had inquiries that Katsuki didn't want to answer.
"Shut the fuck up!" Katsuki snapped at his classmates, immediately, the room fell silent. "I won't tell you shit 'cause I don't want to. Leave me alone."
"Don't be such a downer, Bakugo," Sero grinned, "We're just curious about how you two got together when you didn't get along for the first half of our first year."
"Yeah, give us details!" Ashido beamed, "A month ago isn't all that long and yet he said that he loves you! Omg! Have you liked each other since you were kids and then you had some sort of internalised homophobia shit going on so you bullied your crush, ya know, like when little boys pull their crushes ponytails? But different."
The accuracy of Ashido's words was scary. Katsuki, frankly, didn't want to dwell on his realisations in middle school, so he started marching away with his shoulders hunched and a heavy scowl on his face, though before he reached the stairs he whipped around, "My love life is none of you business, asshats! Also, Aizawa said that anyone that goes after the nerd will have indefinite house arrest." And with that, Katsuki stormed up to his room and threw himself onto his bed. One of the pillows still had the faint scent of Izuku on it, the smell made Katsuki's heart clench and gut twist.
Katuski wouldn't say that he felt betrayed, that would be incorrect. He just felt... wronged. Izuku should have told Katsuki, he would have supported him as much as he could. Hell, Katsuki might have even followed Izuku (that would be a surprising shift from their usual dynamic) and completed his mission with him. But Izuku had run off, apparently with his hero suit as Katsuki had found out during his impromptu meeting with his teachers, leaving Katsuki in the dark with a note that declared his love for him. Katsuki had no way of returning those words, at least not until they found Izuku and dragged his ass back to UA.
Katsuki fell back onto his bed and sighed heavily, he seemed to be doing that a lot lately, and it was all because of Izuku. Katsuki didn't blame Izuku for anything- aside from running away and being an idiot- but it was still stressful. Katsuki had no doubt it was ten times worse for Izuku, in fact, he knew it was more than ten times worse for Izuku, but that didn't stop the typhoon of worry and panic that invaded Katsuki's mind and heart at the prospect of finding Izuku dead in an alleyway.
Katsuki must have fallen asleep because the next thing he knew was that he was being woken up by a gentle knock at his door.
"Bakubro, are you awake?" Kirishima asked through the thick wooden door, "Look, bro, I told everyone to back off, I know you like your privacy and all that. I know that we can't get Midobro back just yet, but we're here to help you, alright dude? Also, we're playing board games, if you want to join us."
Kirishima seemingly remained outside of the door for a few seconds longer before Katsuki could hear the sound of his slippers against the carpeted hallway floor. Once he was sure that Kirishima was gone, Katsuki let out a sigh of relief. He really didn't want to interact with anyone. He was too mentally exhausted by the day's revelations. Tiredly, Katsuki lifted his phone so that he could check the time, his eyes skimmed over the screen in a bored manner, but something cause him to pause. Right below the time display, there was a message. A message from none other than Izuku Midoriya. Katsuki scrambled to sit up. He unlocked his phone, clicked on Izuku's contact and read the message.
Nerd: LOV infiltrate HSC. Follow leads until I can take them down. Srry for leaving, ily.
Katsuki stared at the message with wide eyes. He hadn't expected to hear from Izuku at all, not once he decided to go awol and become a vigilante, but here he was, sat on his bed reading a message from Izuku. A message which ended with 'ily' of all things.
Me: Don't you dare do this by yourself, nerd! I'm telling Aizawa and we're coming to help you. If you think you can get away with this you've got another thing coming, asshole!
Me: I love you too.
Katsuki knew that the longer he sat there contemplating the message, the longer Izuku was out there on his own. So, with newfound determination, Katsuki sprung up from his bed and rushed through Heights' Alliance, towards the teachers' dorm. The sooner he relayed Izuku's message, the sooner he would be able to see his boyfriend and he could kick his ass.
Izuku's heart fluttered at the sight of Katsuki's messages. The intention of his message had been to mobilise his friends, so Katsuki's subtle threats didn't mean much to him. What meant a lot, however, was the second message that simply read "I love you too". Katsuki had said it back and Izuku couldn't be happier. Of course, it would have been more ideal to hear it in person, but Izuku thought that was only fair; after all, he did say it via letter.
Izuku couldn't dwell on his emotions for long, though, because he had places to be. It wouldn't do him well to linger in the alleyway, at the scene of a deal of information between two underground mobsters. Izuku jumped from the alleyway and hurried away from the scene, now that his suspicions had been confirmed, he needed to get into the Hero Safety Commission himself to sniff out the spies. But the question was, how?
Of course, he had told Katsuki about the League of Villains' infiltration knowing that he would tell the adults so that they could do something, but Izuku knew that All Might would insist that they did everything by book. As much as Izuku admired and wished to be like All Might, they had their fundamental differences, and that was ok, nobody was alike. Where All Might believed that everything should be done by the book, only ever straying from the rules in dire situations, Izuku viewed the rules as... more of a suggestion. They were flexible, fluid, one might say. Well, Izuku would say. Abiding by strict rules rarely accomplished what he wanted. He wouldn't have done half the things he had done if he stuck to the rules given to him. Izuku knew that he needed to act independently, at least for now, but having a backup force was useful, and that was why he had messaged Katsuki.
Now that Izuku knew that his message had been received and that if anything happened to him, the Commission would no doubt be taken down by vengeful teens, he had confidence in his next step. That step being, tracking down one of the minor branches of the League of Villains (who had expanded into an entire underground network of groups) so that he could gather as much information as he could.
Ordinarily, tracking down anything to do with the League would be near impossible, the League didn't like being found. But Izuku had an in, not that they knew, of course. But that was what happened when villains didn't watch what they were doing out in the open. Dragon's informant may give good information, but he wasn't very good at concealing his own movements.
After leaping and floating across the slums of the city for some time, Izuku landed outside of a run-down club. The pavement outside was awash with a crowd of people all desperate to get in and waste the night in a haze of alcohol and sweaty bodies pressed up against them. Izuku watched from his perch as his target argued with the behemoth of a bouncer. Even over the pounding music and across the road Izuku could hear the disgruntled man.
"What do you mean I can't get in? You just let those two sluts in!" the man spat at the bouncer. It was a rather amusing scene, the man hardly came up to the bouncer's shoulder and yet he attempted to leer over the man.
"You have clearly been drinking, and I cannot let you in." the bouncer replied in a smooth baritone.
"Well then fuck you, you bastard! This club is a whorehouse anyway!" the man sneered. He stormed away with his head held high. Maybe he was too inebriated to have had his ego affected by the interaction, or maybe he was just thick-skinned. Who's to say. All that mattered to Izuku was that the man was walking away from the club, most likely in the direction of the hideout. So, without further delay, Izuku stood from his perch on the edge of a rooftop and followed after the man, being sure to keep to the shadows that coloured the city at night.
It had been an hour since Katsuki had told his teachers about Izuku's message. They had immediately called a staff meeting and rushed towards a meeting room to discuss the information that Izuku had given them. Katsuki knew, obviously, that the infiltration of The Hero Safety Commission was a big deal. In fact, calling it a big deal most certainly undermined the entire situation, but that wasn't what Katsuki was worrying about at the moment. What had taken root in Katsuki's mind was the fact that his childhood best friend was out there on his own, most likely about to do something stupid. Trailing a member of a gang, for example.
Katsuki was by no means a patient boy, so it's fair to say that the hour wait was torturous. When Aizawa had first declared that he was calling a meeting, Katsuki had damn near begged to partake, if only so that he wasn't left out of the loop. But, Aizawa had instantly knocked him down and said that he was to stay outside and not even think about entering the room. Katsuki had been fuming, but he obeyed nevertheless. He didn't much feel like being barred from helping in the future, he had no doubt that that was something Aizawa would do.
The hour wait was long and arduous, the anxiety of the situation nibbled away at Katsuki's mind and coursed through his body. Finally, the meeting came to an end and All Might came out to speak to Katsuki.
"Young Bakugo," All Might greeted as he exited the room, the elder man looked as though his mind had been to hell and back, that's to say, he looked exhausted.
"Old man," Katsuki returned through gritted teeth, "Are you going to tell me anything or am I going to be left in the dark?"
"Right," All Might chuckled ever so slightly, "The teachers have made the executive choice to go after Young Midoriya, in shifts, though you students will not be permitted to engage directly in this conflict."
Katsuki's face clouded over with undisguised rage and disbelief. "Hah? Are you joking? You expect me to just sit around and do nothing whilst Deku is out there, no doubt a step away from getting himself killed?" Katsuki sneered.
"Whilst I understand your anger, Young Bakugo, you must remember that you are still a student and you mustn't be involved in such matters. Not to mention that even if the Hero Saftey Commission had been compromised, you are still liable to end up in the same situation as Young Midoriya. In fact, you are more liable to end up with your chances of being a hero stripped from you." All Might tried to placate, but it didn't work. It was very hard to calm Bakugo Katsuki once he worked himself up.
"What do you mean I shouldn't be involved in such matters? Did I or did I not partake in a fucking battle only a few months ago?" Katsuki snapped.
"I'm not denying that, but it was a grave mistake to let any of you anywhere near that battlefield. It is in your best interest to just leave this to the heroes for now, ok? No going after Young Midoriya." All Might chastised lightly, he couldn't find it within himself to be too harsh with Katsuki when it was his boyfriend who was in danger.
Katsuki didn't gratify All Might with a reply, he simply huffed and stormed away. Katsuki didn't like lying, so when he came to a situation where he knew he would ultimately have to lie, he tended to simply remain silent. Katsuki wasn't going to sit on his ass and wait for the heroes to bring Izuku home, he was going to do it himself, even if he did end up with house arrest for the remaining two years of his education.
It was shockingly easy to follow the man to the hideout. The ease with which Izuku tracked them would have been suspicious if it wasn't for the fact that the man seemed completely unaware of his surroundings. Anyone, even a young child, could have followed the man. Especially with the noise he was making, he hollered to nobody and shouted to the sky as he stumbled down the dark roads.
When the man finally came to a halt in front of an innocuous building that appeared to be nothing more than a run-down block of flats abandoned by the city's council, he seemed to have vented off all of his previous aggression and he seemed meek in the face of the muscular people guarding sat on the front steps of the building.
"I thought we told you to stop getting drunk and stumbling back here, Ishimura!" a woman growled lowly, she appeared to have the head of a panther. Her lips were pulled back into a snarl as she glared at Ishimura with glowing green eyes.
"I know," Ishimura slurred, "But I don't have nowhere else to go! If I stay out on the streets some assholes who hate the LOV is gonna have my ass! You know I got in trouble with a gang three blocks over, come on Rimu, please just let me in."
"Fine," Rimu snarled, "But don't think this will be a regular thing, and I'm reporting this to the boss, whether they tell someone higher up is out of my control."
Ishimura thanked Rimu as he scurried into the building with his tail between his legs and head ducked. Izuku watched this interaction with keen eyes, the darkness of the night hid him from view, but he knew that any sudden movement he made would no doubt be picked up by Rimu and her partner if he wanted to get into the building, he had to be careful.
Izuku considered simply camping out on the rooftop he occupied until morning, or until there was a change of guard, but he didn't know when the guards changed and waiting until morning left more chance of him being caught. Any way that Izuku looked at it, he was in a lot of danger. Any plan he concocted held the risk of him being captured and taken to the main body of the LOV where Shigaraki would no doubt murder him. Izuku was in a sticky situation. This wasn't his first rodeo, though. Being a hero was all about adapting to the situation. So Izuku did just that.
Izuku pulled his cowl further over his head and fitted his mask to his mouth more securely. If his friends were around, they would kill him for his recklessness, but that didn't matter. All that mattered was that Izuku was going to get inside of the building and get all the information he needed to tear down not only the LOV but also the Hero Safety Commission in one fell swoop.
Luckily for Izuku, the derelict building hadn't been repaired much in an effort to ensure that it blended in with the surrounding crumbling structures. There was a broken window around the back of the building that must have only recently been shattered because when Izuku hopped through it and landed lightly on the floor, glass crunched under his boots. For a terrifying moment, Izuku was sure that somebody had heard his intrusion and was going to come and investigate, but nobody appeared in the hall. Everything was still.
Slowly, Izuku crept down the hall, keeping an ear and eye out for anything out of the ordinary. The only sounds that filled the air were the rumbling snores of slumbering gang members and the occasional hum of televisions behind various closed doors. The place was much more occupied than Izuku had originally believed, it seemed as though he had landed on the floor of the four-story building dedicated solely to housing members of the gang. It wasn't the best place to be, if he made one wrong move, any number of hulking criminals could come rushing from the rooms on either side of him, slaughtering him where he stood.
"That's what I'm saying," a muffled voice said from the other side of one of the doors near the end of the corridor, "How can they expect us to trust them if we're not even allowed on the fourth floor?"
"Dude, you know that's where they keep all the products. The drugs, the money, the info. They ain't gonna let just anyone up there." a different voice sighed. Izuku thought it was rather convenient that they were speaking about this specific subject at this awfully convenient time.
"They treat us like slaves!" the first voice exploded, several other voices shushed them aggressively. An oppressive silence filled the floor for a minute before somebody spoke up again.
"Look Love, what did you expect? We're working for the League of Villains. This is one of the minor posts, none of the main players ever come here because all it's good for is selling drugs. Now stop pacing and come back to bed." a sweeter voice hummed.
"No! I've seen people come here to meet with the boss, and they always go up to the fourth floor, there's more than drugs leaving this place!"
"Shut the fuck up, dude. Just get into bed with your partner and go to sleep. We don't want to deal with this tonight,"
Mutterings and grumbles filtered through the thin walls. Silence fell once again. At least the interaction had supplied Izuku with some information. This hideout was mainly dealing with drugs, everything important was on the fourth floor, and none of the most prolific LOV members showed up at this place.
With this information in mind, Izuku continued down the hall and towards the rickety stairs with careful steps. The entire experience was all rather nerve-wracking. Izuku didn't expect it to be anything less than terrifying, but simply acknowledging something was scary didn't strip the fear factor from it. Izuku kept his ears peeled for any sort of abnormal sounds, when he didn't hear anything he let out a sigh of relief.
Izuku had just put his hand on the bannister, ready to climb up the stairs and gather all of the information that he could when the creak of a door opening echoed in the corridor behind him. Izuku cursed under his breath as a whipped around and watched a woman emerge from one of the rooms, she didn't appear to be completely lucid, she was rubbing her eyes and yawning as she shuffled down the hall. She was yet to notice Izuku who was slowly inching towards an area concealed in shadows. He thought he could make it before she noticed him. He was wrong.
Just when Izuku was inches away from concealing himself from the woman's line of sight, she looked up, and her eyes locked onto his masked face. In the second that it took for her to process what was going on, Izuku had already acted. There was no room for mercy or courtesy when dealing with these sorts of situations. You either act first and come out triumphant or you hesitate and get yourself killed. Izuku would rather not end up dead, he had several promises to keep and he knew that Katsuki, Uraraka and several other people would resurrect him just to murder him if he got caught and killed.
Izuku's actions were rapid. Blackwhip shot out of his hand and wrapped itself around the woman's body, it muffled her shout of shock when Izuku pulled her towards him. She squirmed and tried to escape, but it's a fruitless endeavour. As soon as the woman was within range, Izuku knocked her out with only a hint of regret in his chest. He quickly smothered that guilt whilst he pulled the woman towards the door she had emerged out of and set her down next to it, slumped against the wall. Izuku hoped to make it look like she had wandered out of her bed during the night in a bout of sleepwalking, again, he felt a twinge of regret in his chest. There was no room for regret, though. Sometimes you had to knock somebody out to complete your mission, that was just how the world of heroes, villains and those in-between worked.
Izuku was quick to hurry up the stairs lest somebody else emerge from their room and sees him sneaking around. He was already in danger of the woman waking up and sounding an alarm, he needed to gather all of the information possible and get out of the hideout. Fast.
When Izuku emerged on the landing of the fourth floor, he was glad to see that nobody else was there, it would have presented a problem if there was, seeing as he was trying to sneak around, and all. Directly in front of Izuku, there was a metal door that was clearly locked up. There was no doubt in Izuku's mind that that was the room he needed to get into. The question was, how did he get into the room without making too much noise and alerting others to his presence?
Izuku walked up to the door and gave it an experimental push, you never knew if somebody had been stupid enough to leave it unlocked. Unfortunately, his test yielded no results. The door was locked firmly, there was no way that Izuku could get in without using his quirk. With a heavy sigh, Izuku activated One for All at 3% and gave the door another experimental push. Thankfully, it gave and he was able to slip into the room, plus, the door wasn't all that damaged, you'd have to look really close to the door frame to see the way that the metal was warped ever so slightly.
Peering into the room, Izuku's mouth dropped open at the treasure trove of evidence and leads he had stumbled upon. Boards full of drug distribution routes and names of people. A blueprint of the Hero Safety Commission building. Instructions were written in an untidy scrawl about getting into position on a certain date in six months time. Izuku had hit the jackpot on his first try. From what he could gather as he wandered around the room snapping pictures of everything he could, every division of the League of Villains was going to partake in a staged take-over of the Hero Safety Commission. This was vital information that Izuku needed to get to the right people, and he needed to do so in person. Messages could be traced and intercepted. He needed to go back to UA. It was amusing, in a sense, he had scarcely been away for a day and he was already going back. His leaving had been more like a day trip than him actually running away. Izuku may have chuckled to himself at the thought had he not heard voices coming up the stairs.
Izuku's heart thundered in his ears and worked its way up into his throat. He couldn't be caught here. He knew he could most likely escape through the window, or just fight off the people who were getting ever closer to him, but that wasn't ideal. If he was discovered, if people knew he was there, then plans would be changed. He could most likely get away with that woman seeing him in the hallway, he had left her outside of her bedroom door, people might just assume she had been sleepwalking and dreaming when she said she saw someone, but there was no way he would get away with being found in the brightly lit room that contained vital information about the League's plans.
In a panic, Izuku rushed over to the light switch and turned it off just as the people traversing up the stars reached the landing. The footsteps came to a halt and Izuku held his breath.
"Doesn't seem like there's anything up here. The door is closed and the lights are off, everything seems to be in order." somebody muttered outside of the door. Izuku held his breath and silently prayed that they didn't enter the room.
"Boss gave us permission to check the room. Unlock the door and make sure nobody is in there," the familiar voice of Rimu grumbled.
Footsteps got closer to the door and Izuku ducked behind it at the exact moment that the door was pushed open, "There's nothing in here."
"Go into the fucking room, don't just stand there, you dolt." Rimu hissed, she stepped in first and was accompanied by her board partner from before. Both of them stepped further into the room, leaving their back to Izuku.
It was now or never, Izuku knew it was risky, but he didn't have much of a choice. He was seconds away from being caught. So, with no other option, Izuku activated One for All and darted out of the room and down the stairs. He made it all the way to the window that he had come through and it didn't seem like either of the guards had seen him dart out of the room. Even if everything seemed to be fine at the moment, Izuku wasn't willing to stick around to see if everything went to shit. Izuku jumped out of the window and with the aid of Float and Blackwhip escaped into the night. He had a phone full of evidence and he was determined to deliver it to UA.
So, it turns out I won't be updating more often. Sorry. I think I might make this story around 15-20 chapters. Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are.
