Something Went Wrong
Izuku woke up to the sun shining in his eyes and the click of Katsuki's keyboard as he typed away at his laptop from the desk across the room. Judging from the persistent sunlight that was determined to blind him, Izuku judged that it was around 10 am, far later than he would usually wake up.
"Why didn't you wake me up, it's so late," Izuku grumbled groggily as he rolled out of bed and stumbled over to Katsuki's side.
"You haven't been getting enough sleep lately," Katsuki replied simply without taking his eyes off of the essay he was writing. Once he was focused on something, it took considerable effort to draw him away.
"Alright," Izuku hummed, "I'm going to go and get breakfast, would you like anything to eat?"
"No,"
Izuku nodded, patted Katsuki's head (he knew that his boyfriend got annoyed when he did that), and shuffled out of the room. Izuku's mind was still laden with a sleepy fog, maybe that was why he didn't notice Shinso until he was barreling into him by the lift.
"Oh my gosh, I am so sorry, Shinso! Are you ok?" Izuku fretted over his classmate. He stuck out a hand to help Shinso off of the floor, checking him over for injuries as he did so.
"I'm ok, MIdoriya, I'm not fragile enough for you to hurt me by simply knocking into me."
"Are you sure, that looked like quite a rough fall,"
"I'm fine, really. Though... you are a lot stronger than you look," Shinso joked. At least he attempted to, just like Aizawa, Shinso struggled to change his tone of voice to match what he was trying to convey. Luckily for him, Izuku was a master at deciphering the words of people who struggled to express their emotions (after all, he had known Katsuki for over ten years).
"Ok...good. How are you today? You look like you've been sleeping more," Izuku smiled.
"Ah, yeah. Something about these dorms make it so easy to sleep. Are the rooms soundproof?"
"Hmm... I think so. A lot of people have nightmares and scream at night, so I think the school put sound dulling technology on the walls." Izuku shrugged casually. Shinso looked at him incredulously and shook his head with an amused huff.
"It really shows the extent of what you've gone through when you can say things like that so casually, you know," Shinso laughed, "Most people would be concerned that teenagers are having nightmares so bad that they scream at night."
Izuku chuckled nervously and scratched the back of his neck. Sometimes he forgot that what he and his classmates had been through was deeply traumatising, to them, it was just another part of their lives that had come and passed. It was akin to a particularly stress-inducing test. It truly said something that they all just continued on with their lives as if nothing had happened.
"Yeah... Anyway, would you like to get breakfast with me, Shinso? I know that you have a bad habit of not eating breakfast," Izuku said. He started tugging Shinso towards the lift, to which Shinso gave little to minimal struggle.
"And why do you know that, Midoriya?" Shinso asked in an amused tone.
"Because I was observing you so that I could fill in your page in my analysis book for our class. I noticed that you're a bit more sluggish in the morning than after lunch, of course, that could be attributed to you having issues sleeping, but as I've said, you seem to be sleeping better. Also, I notice that sometimes your stomach will rumble rather loud at around 11 am, indicating that you're hungry for lunch, but also that you most likely haven't eaten yet. Not to mention the fact that I never see you at breakfast, unless you're drinking coffee, which I assume doesn't have much of an effect on you because you don't seem anymore awake after it. You've probably drank so much coffee that the effects aren't as obvious now, that happens when you take too much of a drug, and your body builds a resistance. It happened to me with paracetamol. I couldn't take it for a year because it didn't do anything." Izuku went on a tangent and Shinso listened with slight concern. The degree with which Izuku observed his classmates was, frankly, frightening and Shinso was glad that he was on their side and not that of the villains'.
Just when the lift was approaching the ground floor, it let out an ear grating shriek and jolted to a stop. The lights flickered before going out completely. Both occupants of the lift looked over at each other with suspicion and concern alight in their eyes. There was no way that this was a coincidence. The majority of the teachers leave to finally put an end to the LOV and bring down the Commission for aiding a villainous organisation, and suddenly the electricity has gone? Something had gone wrong.
"What should we do, this could just be a minor power outage?" Shinso didn't sound convinced with his own words.
"The backup generator always turns on in the case of a faulty wire or outage," Izuku muttered, "I think we should, first, get out of this lift, then we can take the stairs to the common room. That's where everyone should be gathering."
Shinso nodded, though it was hard to see in the pitch darkness. Whilst it was a struggle in the dark, the two teenagers managed to manoeuvre themselves so that Shinso was holding Izuku up whilst he searched for the escape hatch in the roof of the lift.
"Found it," Izuku called down as he pushed with all his strength and dislodged the metal plate. He climbed out and offered his hand to Shinso so that he could pull his friend out into the elevator shaft.
"How are we going to get up to the next floor... and get the doors open? We're between the first and ground floors, right?" Shinso asked.
"Mhm, I know how to get us up there. Hold on tight," Izuku barely allowed the warning to set in before Blackwhip had wrapped itself around Shinso's waist and Izuku was using Float to get the two of them to the first floor doors.
When they were level with the doors, Izuku used a minuscule amount of One for All to pry the doors open and float through the small gap with Shinso in tow.
"Give me a bit more of a warning, next time," Shinso huffed as Blackwhip dissolved and he was left standing beside Izuku on slightly shaky legs.
"Sorry," Izuku said in a distracted manner, "Come on, there's no time to waste, we have to get down to the common room."
Izuku was dashing off down the stairs, using his quirk to arrive at the ground floor quicker, before Shinso even had the chance to respond.
When Izuku made it to the common room, the rest of his classmates were all gathered around the sofas, murmuring to each other with concerned voices.
"Midoriya! I am glad to see that you are safe, we were about to send a group of people to look for you. Do you know where Shinso is?" Iida asked in the authoritative tone he always assumed in times of uncertainty and crisis.
"Yeah, we were both stuck in the lift together, he's coming down the stairs now. Is everyone else here? Is everyone ok?" Izuku asked.
"Yes, everyone is safe." Todoroki hummed from close to the window, it appeared as though he had been carefully peeking through the curtains to see if anything abnormal was occurring outside.
"Good... What do you think this is about? I don't want to be pessimistic, but nothing like this has ever happened before..." Izuku said with no small amount of worry and trepidation in his voice.
"Surely it can't be the LOV, the teachers are fighting them, most likely as we speak. If any of the big players weren't there, there would be some sort of message from the teachers by this point," Uraraka tried to reassure her classmates, but all of them had a budding unease in their chests. Class 2A were prone to misfortune, it wasn't outside of the realm of possibility that something had gone horribly wrong on their teachers' end of things.
A contemplative silence settled over the amassed students. Nobody wanted to share their fears, doing so would only provoke unease. It was Iida, who finally spoke up, assuming the role he often took to in times of crisis and fear.
"There is no doubt that our current situation is concerning, but stewing in our fears will do nothing to comfort us. We need to be ready in the event that we are attacked," Iida lectured, "Our emergency costumes are in the cupboard in the stairwell. In groups of three, we shall all retrieve and don our costumes just in case something happens. After everybody is suited up, we will congregate in the lounge and discuss the next step in our plan, understood?"
"Yes, Iida," the class answered with one voice.
Within fifteen minutes, the entire class sat in the lounge, all wearing their hero costumes. Izuku sat beside Katsuki, their sides pressed closely together in an attempt to convey support and warmth.
"This is just our luck," Katsuki hissed venomously, "Of course, this would fucking happen to us!"
"There's no point getting angry, Kacchan, all we can do is hope that this isn't what we think it is," Izuku hummed.
"Hoping and wishing ain't gonna do shit for us. No point deluding ourselves," Katsuki grumbled. Izuku simply sighed in reply and pressed a kiss to his boyfriend's forehead, given the situation, nobody was in the mood to tease him about showing affection to Katsuki.
"I have to agree with Katsuki, there is no point in blinding ourselves to the very likely possibility that we are going to be attacked," Todoroki intoned.
"Who the fuck said you could call me by my given name, hah, Icy Hot?" Katsuki glared at Todoroki, though his gaze lacked heat. He was simply being 'angry' for the sake of it. Izuku thought that it was to retain some sense of normality in the frigid atmosphere of uncertainty and fear they were fermenting in.
"Well, we are best friends," Todoroki teased with a blank face, "And best friends are often afforded a more casual relationship, which in turn leads to people being on a first-name basis."
Katsuki's mock scathing reply was drowned out by the horrific sound of screeching and squealing that came from outside of the dorms. Every member of the class shared startled glances with the people closest to them before they leapt from their places and rushed towards the front door.
Izuku skidded to a stop at the top of the steps that lead to Heights' Alliance, his eyes were as wide as saucers as he took in the sight before him. Shigaraki and Dabi stood atop the machine which was the source of the unholy noise. The machine looked like a horrid amalgamation of gears, coils and rusted sheets of metal. It looked as though it served no purpose other than to make an ear-grating noise horrid enough for even naked mole-rat to cringe away from.
"Ah, the students have finally arrived," Shigaraki croaked, "We were starting to worry that you weren't even home."
"How did you get past the barrier, you crusty motherfucker?" Katsuki snarled.
"Straight to the point I see, that's very admirable," Shigaraki sneered, "I'll get to the point as well then. Seeing as your headmaster saw fit to reinforce the walls with some sort of material that I can't decay, I had to use other means to get in. Like, an inside source, shall we say..."
A wicked grin spread across Shigaraki's face as his gaze fell upon Izuku. Izuku would like to say that he was shocked by the revelation. Or perhaps he would have preferred it if he had any sort of strong reaction, but he didn't. In fact, Izuku felt rather apathetic. He'd had a suspicion, and that suspicion had simply been confirmed, he wasn't all that surprised.
"You see, Deku, you removed that device a bit too late. Of course, I would have preferred if it had remained implanted in your head, if it had I'd have been able to use you against your friends, the very thought brings a smile to my face. But, never mind that, I'm here now, and I can't wait to crush you all beneath my feet whilst your teachers desperately try to get back to you in time.
Izuku half expected Shigraki to continue to monologue, after all, if there was one thing you could rely on when facing a villain, it was them monologuing. It was like a prerequisite for being a villain, something they simply had to do. As it was, Shigaraki didn't say anything more, he simply grinned at the gathered glass with a murderous look in his eyes.
Everything was silent and still. Nobody made a move. Anticipation buzzed in the air between Class 2A and the small army of villains that had flooded the field in front of them. Neither party was rushing to make the first move, past encounters had taught them to be cautious of one another. They were at a stalemate.
All it took was the snapping of a branch, far off in the distance, for Izuku to make the first move. He had scarcely taken a step towards Shigaraki, One for All crackling across his skin before anarchy broke out and the fight had officially begun.
Sorry that this is so short. I, actually, can't be fucked to write. I don't know what it is, but writing this story literally saps my creativity from me. I can write literally anything else aside from this godforsaken fanfic. But, I am a person of my word, and I fully intend to finish this story. Only two chapters to go. Yay...
Also, the last two chapters won't be posted according to the schedule. When they're finished, they'll be posted. Anyway, thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day wherever you are.
