CHAPTER XXVIII
AFTER FOUR MONTHS
They tried hard to find her. Police were searching too. Troy hired private detectives to find her but there was no trace of Allie. They found Mike's body in a car crash but nobody knew where Allie was. Yes! Mike was dead.
Three months ago, Police entered the Bolton Villa with the news of Mike Davis' death. Nathan had a hope that maybe they found something about Allie but he was wrong. Even police were confused as there was no trace of Allie anywhere. They informed that Mike was driving out of state when a truck hit his car resulting in the death of his and his man. Actually the car exploded when that truck hit him. Janet recognized the other man as Mike's partner. Only question remaining was where Allie was.
Brooke was depressed. The school became nightmare for her. People were whispering about her and Allie. Some of them gave sympathy while some just didn't care. Caleb stopped talking to Brooke. He didn't sit with her in lunch or didn't even say hi. He was frustrated as well. Allie was his best friend and now he had no one. Some people pitied him because he looked like a zombie since the news came.
Asher was there to help Brooke but she tried to push him away. Every time she looked at Nathan, a new wave of guilt would appear. She tried everything to avoid but Asher wouldn't budge. He stayed by her side.
Nathan didn't go to school for those four months. He made it his mission to find Allie. He was going crazy day by day. His room was filled with their photos and Allie's memories. He was broken beyond repair. Even Hailey felt bad and tried to make him feel better but he isolated himself from everyone. All he wanted was Allie nothing else. He wished he could go back and make everything all right. But everything was ruined for once and for all.
Janet was traumatized. She was visiting counselor to stay sane. Every night she tried to sleep but woke up with haunting nightmares. Allie was like her own child. She was selfless, the way she was ready to die for her made her heart ache. Allie had no one, she was alone. In the end, Mike took everything from her. Every night when Troy returned, she would ask only one question and it was if he had found Allie. It was sad. She didn't talk to Nathan. He cried and apologized but Janet couldn't make up. She couldn't forgive him just like Mike wanted. The guilt was too much. She had seen what Mike did to Allie in that half hour and now she was afraid for her life. Allie didn't deserve that kind of treatment, the girl was innocent and she wanted to be happy. But they all took her happiness away. They broke her beyond repair.
It was another Sunday morning and Bolton villa was quiet as usual. Their bell rang and a butler opened the door.
"Mr. Bolton, I need to talk to you." David Hale said. David Hale was one of the detectives, Troy had hired for Allie.
Nathan followed him without wasting a second.
They all came out and sat in living room.
"I think I found the girl you are looking for. I'm little confused because of her behavior but I talked to her neighbors; they told me that she moved there 3 and half months ago. She never goes out except for grocery shopping. Even I was there for a week and never saw her outside the house."
"It can be Allie." Asher said.
"One more thing, she is pregnant." David said and Nathan's heartbeat skipped. It was Allie he was sure now. It had to be her.
"Where is she?" Nathan asked in urgency.
David gave an address.
"We need to leave now." he stood up and ran upstairs to get a bag.
Troy called Max telling him the news. Max had no different reaction than Nathan's. When he told Brooke, she started crying. Finally they had some lead and maybe they were closer than before.
The whole journey was intense and restless. Nathan's hands were shaking with the thought of getting her back. He was happy after such a long time.
Soon, they reached the old house. It was a small house, one storey. Nathan and Max ran to the door but nobody answered. Asher searched for extra key and found it in nearby plant. Brooke knew it was Allie's habit. She grabbed Asher's hand squeezing it. She was nervous as hell.
They entered the house and it was eerily quiet. Living room had one sofa and kitchen had few utensils. Otherwise the house was empty. Nathan ran upstairs. There was only one room and he opened it. The sight made his heart clenched as he stood frozen in the doorway. Max came from behind and he had the same reaction. Soon everyone piled inside.
The room was small and there was only one bed in the corner and there she was. Allie! She was sleeping with her hand on her growing stomach. Her eyes had dark bags under them and she looked unhealthy and pale. She was curled in the corner of the bed. Brooke held back a sob and hid her face in Asher's chest.
Nathan stepped forward and shakily went closer to her. His shivering hand caressed her cheek and that's when she opened her eyes. Those brown orbs widened and she sat up in her bed, hands securely around her belly. She pushed herself back in the corner. Her eyes were filled with fear as she took in everything.
"Leave me alone." She whispered. Her voice sounded so broken. Nathan's eyes turned glassy.
"Allie..." he tried to say something but she shook her head.
"Go away. Please." She pulled her legs closer to her chest and covered her ears with her hands.
Nathan tried to talk to her but she refused. She hid herself from everyone like she was afraid of them hurting her. Max came forward as he wasn't really involved in whatever happened. Nathan took few steps back. He was disheartened and felt like crying. Max went closer and sat on bed.
"Allie...?" but she didn't respond.
Max gently put his hand on her shoulder and she flinched back like it burned her. Max's eyes filled with hurt and sadness.
"It's okay. It's going to be alright, I promise."
Allie just shook her head.
"Let's go home, Allie." Max said but she refused,
"I don't have home. It's gone." She whispered.
She was so broken, her eyes were empty. Mike tore apart her peaceful, beautiful soul. Now she was nothing but some lost girl who was scared of people and even dreams.
Max took a deep breath. Being an orphan, he could understand her feelings. He had to bring her back to her old self; it was difficult but not impossible. He wasn't even sure if she was aware of her baby.
"Trust me, baby, its there. We are your home." He said but she didn't answer.
"Let's go, Allie bear, let's go home." He pleaded. She refused again. After lots of pleading and a promise of keeping others away, she nodded reluctantly.
Max pulled her closer and she hugged him reluctantly. She didn't even spare a glance at others. Max carried her back to his car. He asked others to take their own vehicle as he was driving her home.
Nathan was reluctant but they had no option. Allie wasn't even ready to look at them. She was afraid of them all. His longing eyes had hoped that maybe she would forgive him. He was happy that they found her but now he was facing his biggest nightmare where Allie wasn't even glancing at him. He was dying for her touch, her smile, her kiss, her talk, her voice but he himself had ruined it and now he was the one who had to make it right.
Brooke didn't stop crying. When she asked Max if she could ride with him, Allie took a step back towards the house so Max refused. Brooke tried to apologize to her, not that it was of any use. Max secured Allie in the back seat with belt and started driving. After a long drive, they reached home. Allie was sleeping so he gently put her in her bed. When he came downstairs, everyone was sulking in their own grief.
"IS she okay?" Nathan asked.
Max nodded and took a seat beside Ryan.
"I'll call mom." Asher left the room.
"I need you to call doctor." Max told Ryan who nodded and walked out. Now it was just Nathan and Brooke left there.
"I need to talk to you both." Max announced and they looked at him.
"You have hurt her the most. So don't expect that she would forgive you soon."
"I know." Brooke mumbled.
"So take it easy. Don't coax her to forgive you. Give her some time. She'll be alright. I talked to her in car. She answered my few questions; she is okay but under a layer of betrayal and hurt. It will take time to clear it."
"Yeah!" Nathan answered this time.
"Good. Now go and get something to eat." He left the room.
Nathan came upstairs. He saw Allie was sleeping in the corner again, her baby bump was showing and he couldn't help but touch it. It was a beautiful feeling as he smiled softly. He wanted to do so many things, he wanted to take her for her first check up, he wanted to take her out on date, he wanted to live every moment again but he had fucked it up real bad. He needed to have patience and that's where Boltons lacked.
"Nate, come downstairs." Asher called him.
---------------------------
Allie woke up and was confused for some time then remembered everything. She took a look at the room and everything was in the same way she left. Suddenly there were footsteps heard and she scooted back in her bed. Door opened and there stood Janet who was breathing hard because she ran all the way from her car to see Allie.
"Allie!" her eyes filled with tears and she hugged her tightly. Allie couldn't help but let out her own tears as she cried in Janet's chest.
"Oh my child, I was so scared." Janet sniffed.
They stayed like that for some time then Janet pulled back and her eyes landed on her stomach. A look of adoration filled her eyes. She slowly touched it and let out a crying giggle.
"I don't know if I should be mad or happy." She chuckled.
Allie's eyebrows furrowed as she wiped her tears,
"I want to kill Nathan for doing this to you." She murmured but then a slow smile spread on her lips, "But the baby will be so cute." She gushed.
Nathan's name made Allie restless as she started shaking. Janet's eyes went wide and she hugged her closer,
"Shh, it's okay. I'm here." She rocked her gently.
"You know, I'm so excited, we need to go to see doctor. I'll take an appointment, Okay?" Allie didn't give any reply but Janet didn't force her.
She kept talking about happy things and Allie for the first time in these four months felt good, felt like she belonged somewhere. When it was the time to leave Janet gave her a teary smile because she wanted to take Allie to her home, to take care of her but Max refused because it was the same place where it started and he didn't want to take any risk. Janet understood and left.
Max and Ryan brought her dinner, talked to her. Ryan cracked some jokes but it was worth it because they received a small smile from Allie. Brooke tried to talk but Allie refused. She didn't react. Max was observing everything and he knew what he had to do.
THREE DAYS LATER
Allie started talking to Max. He was happy because she was improving. But whenever he touched the sensitive subjects, she would keep her mouth shut. Allie was looking at the book when door opened loudly and her eyes widened.
"Oh! Damn, Allie, you're back." Caleb ran towards her, hugging her closer, "You scared me, idiot." He sniffled a little.
Allie's eyes twinkled with happiness as she hugged him back.
"I missed you." She stated softly.
"Missed me? I was going crazy. They didn't even tell me what happened and now, thank god you're back. God." He was in hyper mode which made Allie giggle.
Caleb was surprised to hear that as Max told him about her lack of reactions. He pulled back and kissed her forehead,
"Next time, take me with you, okay? I'm your best friend and I'll always be by your side no matter what happens." He stated.
Allie again hugged him closer wrapping her hands around his neck.
He talked about how school was boring and so many things that Allie missed out in those four months. He was thrilled about the baby that was growing in his best friend's tummy.
"I'm going to be a godfather." He fisted his hands in air. Allie laughed softly.
"Al, there is a new ice cream parlor and they have some different flavors, I heard. Let's go." He stood up and uncertainty spread in her eyes.
"I can't." she shook her head.
"Allie, you have to come out of this room." He sat in front of her on his knees.
"I don't know." She scooted back and that was the cue to leave the subject.
"Okay. Next time?" he asked hopefully and Allie nodded. He smiled widely at her and again hugged her.
"I hope you join school again. I don't like it without you." He mumbled in her hair. Allie didn't react just stayed in his embrace.
ONE WEEK LATER
"Allie, are you feeling better now?" Max came and sat beside her.
"Yeah! Just little tired."
"Oh! That would happen. Janet called me today, she was asking if you would go with her to doctor, you know." Max explained.
Allie's hand went to her stomach and she shook her head.
"I don't want to go out." she whispered.
"You need to come out, Allie. Everyone wants to see the old Allie." He smiled sadly at her. She dropped his gaze and looked away.
"Nathan comes here every day to see you." He said and Allie stiffened.
She knew he came but she just ignored his presence. Even he would sit there whenever she was sleeping just staring at her but she learned not to react.
"He really cares for you and baby."
She shook her head again, "He doesn't. He told me that."
"He was angry. You know he didn't mean it. He had so much in his mind."
"Every time I tried to understand him, in every situation. I just wanted him to trust me for this once but he couldn't." her voice broke. Max pulled her closer, rubbing her back.
"He made a mistake and he regrets it."
"He doesn't want the baby either. He denied it." she whispered in his chest.
"He wants the baby more than anything and he wants you as well. Can you give him one more chance? He deserves it. Everyone deserves second chance, right?"
"I don't know, Max. It hurts."
"And Brooke?" Max wanted to stop but Brooke wanted to know Allie's feelings towards her.
"She hates me." Allie's voice was small and shaking.
"Do you believe her? Because I see her sitting alone on rooftop every day, crying because she hurt you so bad."
"Can you just drop it? I don't want to talk." Allie closed her eyes and then ignored everything like she was doing it for weeks.
Nathan pulled Brooke closer hugging her. They were standing outside her door listening to their conversation. They were going crazy because of Allie's lack of response. But it was obvious, they broke her. It wasn't Mike who hurt her most but it was them who didn't believe her.
ONE WEEK LATER
"Allie, let's go. It's too much. You have been in the house for more than enough time now if you don't get out, I will carry you myself." Caleb threatened.
She smiled softly at him and shook her head.
"Okay. Hard way it is." He stalked towards her and lifted her.
"Caleb, put me down." She giggled.
"Go change or I'll drag you outside in this same outfit." He gently pushed her towards bathroom. Reluctantly she went inside.
Caleb ran downstairs to find Nathan and Brooke looking at him expectantly.
"She agreed?" Nathan asked hopefully and Caleb nodded like a madman.
"Now go ahead. I'll bring her." Caleb said and he walked back to her room.
In next half hour they were in front of an ice cream shop and Allie's eyes twinkled. She looked inside and old memories surfaced. The way Nathan used to bring her the whole bowl of different flavors made her heart beat harder. She buried all her feelings deep down and entered.
There was no one just an old lady behind the counter.
"Why it is so quiet and there is no one except us?" she asked curiously.
"Because this evening is reserved for you, especially for you." Caleb grinned at her. Allie frowned and looked around.
"What do you mean?"
"They want to apologize and what could be better option than ice cream?" Caleb answered and turned her to other side.
There on wall was a banner which said a big sorry and there stood Nathan, Brooke and Asher.
Allie took a step back but collided with Caleb's chest.
"Al...."
"I want to go home." She whispered and turned to leave but Caleb stopped her,
"No. You need to talk to them. They are dying for your apology and you can't avoid them forever."
"Just let me go." She tried to push him away but he wouldn't budge.
"Allie stop and look at me." he forced her to look him in his eyes.
"Trust me this once, you won't regret It." he hugged her closer, "Trust me."
Allie sniffled in his embrace.
Brooke broke down and cried in Asher's arms.
Nathan wanted to run to Allie and hold her closer murmuring those soothing words so that's what he did. He went closer. Caleb nodded softly and pulled back from her. Allie didn't even realize what happened and suddenly she was in Nathan's arms. She went stiff when she smelled that addictive cologne.
"I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry."
His tears fell on her shoulder and her heart clenched. She didn't give any kind of response. Caleb went to Brooke and then encouraged her to go ahead. She was afraid of Allie's reaction. But she went ahead anyway.
"Allie...? Talk to me please." Allie still didn't answer.
Caleb came in front and took Allie's hand,
"Allie please, you can't be mad at them now. It's over. Don't forgive but at least talk."
She shook her head again and pushed everyone away. She turned and walked outside taking a walk to home. Brooke sobbed again and Nathan looked completely disastrous.
--------------------------
"It's time for ultrasound." Janet clapped her hands together.
Everyone was so excited to know the baby and the gender. The funny thing was everyone accompanied them, Troy, Max, Ryan, Asher, Nathan and Brooke even Caleb joined too.
The look on doctor's face was hilarious which made Allie giggle. They all piled in the room trying to get the best view of the baby on screen.
Nathan came forward and sat beside Allie who was sleeping on the bed. Their eyes met and this time she didn't turn her gaze. Nathan sent her a comforting smile and took her hand intertwined their fingers. Allie closed her eyes with a small sigh.
"So are you ready?" Doctor asked.
He put some gel on her stomach and then put his machine on it. Soon there was something on the screen and Nathan squeezed her hand.
"Oh! There is your baby."
"But...." Before Janet could say anything doc smiled, "She is having twins."
Allie's eyes went wide. Nathan's eyes filled with tears, he went ahead and kissed her forehead, "I love you so much."
Allie looked at him but his eyes were fixed on screen. She swallowed hard.
"Do you wanna know the gender?"
"Yes!" Troy said grinning widely.
"I want a girl." Janet and Ryan said simultaneously.
"Baby A is boy and Baby B is also a boy." Doctor said and both of them pouted. A wave of happiness passed every one of them.
"Whoa! That's great." Asher looked beyond happy, "I'm going to spoil them so much."
"Another pair of arrogant, cocky jerks." Janet mumbled but there was a hint of tease on her face. Asher sent a glare in her direction but Caleb's laugh lightened the situation.
"We need to do so many things. I'm going to start on nursery today." Janet was grinning ear to ear.
"Oh! I'm going to help you." Ryan matched her enthusiasm.
"Me too." Caleb joined them as well and they started talking animatedly forgetting they were still in hospital.
"Allie?" Nathan broke her chain of thoughts and she met his eyes.
"I.... I... need to... Umm... talk...." He stuttered.
Brooke got the clue and she pushed everyone outside the room including doctor.
"I was so stupid. I know Allie, I hurt you so much and I broke you but I was out of my mind, baby. Mom was kidnapped and I couldn't think straight. I should have believed you but I failed. I'm sorry." Tears rolled down his cheeks, "These four months were so hard and I realized what I did. I know you can't forgive me, take your time but please don't ignore me. I love you, Allison Davis, more than anything. I know I have given you so much pain and I hurt you beyond imagination but I didn't mean it, Al, please forgive me. I can't live without you or our babies. I want to be with you, just you. I would never hurt you intentionally, I promise. I love you so much it hurts."
Tears were streaming down her face. She knew she had taken enough time and now she had to make a decision. There were no doubts that she still had feelings for him but still those five months were dreadful. She looked in his hurtful, glossy eyes and her heart ached again. Without thinking anything, she hugged him closer and they melted in each others' embrace.
TWO AND HALF YEARS LATER
"This is the last time I'm asking you Brooke, are you moving in with me in my apartment or not?" Asher was frustrated with her stubborn attitude.
Brooke threw her clothes in his direction and yelled back, "Why would I? I have a perfect dorm room and I'm happy. Why do you want me to shift?"
"I told you before; I bought that apartment for us so I want you to move in."
"But I didn't ask you to buy it. What would your snobby Gram say now?" Brooke glared at him.
"It has nothing to do with her, Brooke." He put his head in his hands.
"But it's just weird. We are in university and you...."
He suddenly got up and kissed her like crazy. First she was shocked but then she responded with the same passion. Asher didn't stop his assault even when they were out of breaths. After some time when he was sure that she was dazed, he asked,
"Move in with me, please?" And a put a kiss on her neck.
Unconsciously, Brooke moaned and nodded. That's it! It was done.
He pulled away wiggling his eyebrows,
"Now it wasn't hard, was it? He smirked at her.
Brooke's eyes went wide with realization as she hit his arm, pushing him away,
"Fuck you!"
"Anytime Babe." He winked, "Did you call Allie?" Asher turned to his TV, changing the subject.
Brooke nodded, "She is going crazy. Those boys are too much to handle." She shuddered.
"Oh come on. I have trained them personally." Asher puffed his chest smiling proudly.
"Yeah! That's why they were shouting at me to give you phone."
"Great. I should call them." He ran to get his phone to call his favorite nephews.
---------------------------------
"Dad is coming, dad is coming." Twins were chanting like crazy while running through the home.
Their enthusiasm was tiring for others.
"I'll punish you if you don't stop this instant." Allie stopped in front of them with her hands on her hips.
"But dad is coming." Blake pouted giving her his best innocent face.
She groaned looking at their pouts, "You will be the death of me." she pulled both of them closer, "I'm sorry." They hugged her tightly,
"Now you get the punishment." Christian smiled cheekily at her.
Her eyes widened and again she gave a fake glare.
Main door opened and both twins jerked up pushing her away and ran towards the sound.
Soon she heard their yelling, "Daddy!"
They were seeing him after two weeks, enthusiasm was necessary.
"Allie?" his voice brought her back and she joined them.
"How was the tournament?" she hugged him tightly.
"It was boring without you guys." Nathan pulled her closer, kissing her softly.
"Eww!" twins shuddered and looked away.
"Now I know why dad hated us so much." Nathan chuckled.
It was crazy, the way life turned out to be. Life changed. But this change was beautiful. They both were at the peak of their happiness. Allie's heart always swelled when it came to her family. Nathan was currently in university and a basketball player. Allie never wanted him to abandon his passion; she supported him through thick and thin. She herself was taking online courses for graduation. Surprisingly, Asher and Brooke were still together, fighting most of the times, but together. Caleb was in college as well and was dating a girl, he met in University. Everything was just perfect.
"Dad, we need to punish mom." Blake grinned at her and Allie narrowed her eyes in return.
"And why would we do that?" Nathan was amused.
"She scolded us." Chris piped in.
"Oh! Did she? What should be her punishment?" Nathan made a face like he was thinking hard.
"Ummm... we have decided it." Blake.
Allie glared at him and he laughed,
"NO ice cream for her for whole week." Chris said and they both giggled. Allie's jaw dropped making Nathan laugh loudly.
"I hate you." Allie huffed; scowling at them she left the room.
"Uhoh!" both twins looked at each other with wide eyes and then met Nathan's wide eyes as well. And suddenly all three of them were running behind Allie shouting,
"MOMMY!"
THE END.
