CHAPTER III
“Brooke, wake up, we’ll be late.” Allie pulled my blanket off my face and I groaned.
“Five minutes more please.” I mumbled and hid my face in my favorite tweety pillow.
“If you don’t get up right now, I will pour cold water.” She threatened and I jumped out of bed because it wasn’t just a threat. I had already seen Allie doing that to me.
“I’m up.” I yelled and ran to shower.
After half hour I ran downstairs and popped a piece of bread in my mouth and pulled Allie outside and started walking.
“I was hungry.” She whined.
“But we’ll be late, right?”
“It’s because of you. You were late and as always I waited for you to eat breakfast and as usual you didn’t let Me.” she huffed and I chuckled.
“I’m sorry.” I hugged her from one side. We shared our only iPod and reached school in fifteen minutes. While walking to our locker, I realized people were staring at us and some had evil smile on their faces.
“Brace yourself; I think shit is going to go down.” I mumbled under my breath.
“Brooke, I think those boys found a way to get back at us.” Allie stated as she looked around. She was nervous and actually I was too. We reached our locker and saw everybody was pointing towards it while murmuring something. I pushed them aside and saw water dripping from our locker. Allie opened the locker and all the stuff inside was wet. I opened mine and had same thing. There was a stinky sock which was hanging in the middle. It was disgusting. I heard laughter and turned to glare at twins. They had big smirks on their stupid faces.
“Payback is a bitch, isn’t it?” Nathan said loudly and everyone laughed. I didn’t say anything but I was fuming. He gave a small handkerchief to me and smiled.
“Trust me; I’ll get back at you.” I said through greeted teeth.
“I would love to see It.” he whispered in my ear and left. Asher was behind him but he went to Allie and mumbled, “Sorry, Allie but it was necessary.” He winked at me and left.
Everyone went to their own ways with a subject of gossip. I didn’t realize Allie wasn’t looking at anyone as she had clutched something in her hand. I turned towards her and made her look at me. She didn’t meet my eye but there were tears falling down her cheeks.
“Allie?” I was afraid.
“It was the last photo of her.” She mumbled and showed me a wet photo. It was in bad condition.
“I’m sorry.” I hugged her tightly knowing how those small memories were important to her. She always held onto those memories for living. She wasn’t strong when it came to our past but she never showed it to anyone. Today, when I saw her crying, I was more determined to take my revenge against them and there was no way I could have waited for one more day. I had to think something.
After some time, we went to our class which was Math. Janet was already there, she smiled at us when she saw us. Allie returned it but I was fuming because they were her sons who made my sister cry. After an hour the lecture was over. I took my supplies and was about to leave the class when Janet called Allie.
“Yes madam?” Allie asked.
“Umm, Allison, we talked about that scholarship yesterday right? And I told you that I will tell you about that today after school but I can’t. Actually I’m leaving after half day.”
“No worry, I will wait tomorrow.” Allie answered.
“No you can’t. You have exam tomorrow, remember? And those doubts were pretty complex.” Janet explained and Allie nodded. She looked little worried. Me? Well, I was shocked that it was our first week and teachers were giving Allie their pieces of advice. Well, that was Allie for us, a studious and favorite student of all teachers.
“And I don’t want you to suffer. So will you come by my place in the evening? I will help you.”
“Your place?” Allie swallowed and my brain started working really very fast. An evil idea popped in my awesome brain and I smirked.
“Yeah, why not? You can come and we’ll finish it in two hours max. What do you think, Brooke?” and I nodded eagerly, couldn’t wait for the perfect opportunity.
“Great then I’ll see you in the evening.” She scribbled her address and passed it to Allie. We bid her goodbye and I was more than happy.
“Why are you so happy?” Allie raised her eyebrow and I just shrugged.
“Tell me, Brooke.”
“You know we’re going to their home.”
“Their?” she looked confused.
“Those two reincarnations of Lucifer.” I stated and Allie stopped dead in her track.
“NO NO NO, we can’t go. I’m going to tell her that I’ll be okay.” And she turned but I pulled her back.
“Nah, you are not doing that. I have a perfect plan and you would love it.”
“NO Brooke, let it go. We are done with that.”
“I’m not. They made you cry and now it’s my turn to give them my piece of hell.”
“Brooke!”
“Allie, shut up and let’s go to class” and I dragged her to classroom. To our bad luck, it was the same class that we shared with those evil twins. When class started, they both came inside as girls did their best to catch their attention but they took sits behind us.
“Hey Allie.” Asher said loudly and everyone gasped as girls glared at her. Allie looked nervous but just gave a small wave.
“You were crying?” Suddenly Nathan asked her and she shook her head vigorously.
“Great.” He turned to his mobile and I wanted to kick him.
“What got your panties in twist?” Asher asked me when he saw me glaring at his brother.
“You both are bastards.” I said and they both raised their eyebrows at the same time as if they have practiced it.
“Brooke!” Allie gave me a nervous look and I turned towards board. After that I ignored them for whole class. In canteen, we sat in our normal place when Caleb joined us.
“Hey!” Allie smiled at him.
“Hey Al, how was your half day?”
“It was ok, not so happening.” She answered and he gave a small nod.
“What about you?” She asked.
“I wasn’t in lectures. My friend is coming back in next week so I was busy with those paper procedures. They are exhausting.” He let out a small sigh and we both nodded.
“SO Brooke, what plan do you have in your mind?” he looked at me and I gave a mischievous smile,
“You know what Caleb, I think I like you.” I said cheekily and he laughed.
“So what’s gonna happen now?”
“You will see tomorrow.” I winked at him and he chuckled.
The lectures were as always boring and soon it ended. I was so excited to go to Janet’s house. While coming back to home, I went to store to buy some things which were needed for my prank. Allie didn’t know what was I up to and I wanted it to be in the same way for some time. We completed our homework and some sheets and it was already six.
“Let’s go. I don’t want to be late.” Allie said packing her bag.
“Yup, let’s go.” I jumped and stood up, following her downstairs.
“Hey Max, we’re going to Miss Janet’s place. We’ll be late. Don’t wait for dinner.” Allie told him and he nodded.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to drop you at her house?” he asked and we shook our heads.
“Okay then call me if you want me to pick you guys up from her place. Take care.” He waved and we came outside. She took out the address and we took a cab to reach there. When cab halted we paid and turned towards her house. My jaw dropped to the ground because it wasn’t just house, it was a freaking mansion. Allie swallowed nervously.
“Shit! Caleb wasn’t lying when he said that they are loaded. This is awesome.” I blurted out and Allie nodded.
“I think we should go back.” Allie tugged on my hand but I pulled her towards front door. I rang the bell and soon Janet opened it.
“OH hey, Allison, hey Brooke, come on in.” She let us in and we were still in awe.
“Sit, I will be back and what will you have? Coffee??” I just gave a small nod. She smiled at us and went inside maybe kitchen.
“It’s beautiful.” Allie mumbled as our eyes wandered around house.
“Yeah, seriously.”
After five minutes or so Janet came back with coffee. She and Allie sat in love seat as they were discussing some problem from statistics. I was just waiting for perfect moment to make my plan work. Suddenly door opened loudly and evil twins entered the living room.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” it was the first reaction of Nathan when he saw us.
“Nate!” Janet glared at him and he smiled sheepishly at her.
“Sorry.” He went to her and kissed her cheek but she pushed him away,
“Go take a bath. You stink.”
“Mom!” he whined and Asher laughed at him. He was all sweaty too. He looked at me and smirked. I wanted to wipe out those smirks of those stupid faces. They went upstairs and I resumed my book reading. It was a fashion magazine. After half an hour they both headed downstairs and sat on the couch in front of me, eyeing us curiously. Then they saw Allie and Janet who were engrossed in their books. I cleared my throat to get their attention,
“Can I use bathroom?” I asked and Janet smiled.
“Upstairs, left 2nd door.” She told me and I ran upstairs. I peek a glance around to see if anyone was there but coast was clear. I grinned and opened the first door hoping it would be one of the boy’s rooms. Luckily it was as clothes were all over the bed and some posters of football players. ‘Asher!’ I knew it was his room. I again looked outside to make sure there was no one and ran to the bathroom which was attached to his room. I looked around and it was huge but not caring about it, I opened the toothpaste and added blue color in it. Yes! That was my idea, to embarrass them. When I was done, I sprinted outside to find Nathan’s room which was directly across Asher’s. I did same with his tooth paste too and did a small victory dance when I came outside. I ran back downstairs only to find Asher on his phone and Nathan was staring at Allie. She was talking to Janet as she didn’t notice anything. It took some minutes for them to recognize my presence as Nathan broke out of his stance and looked around if anyone saw him.
“Okay, we should leave now.” Allie said and stood up.
“Oh don’t. Wait for dinner. It’s ready.” Janet offered but we shook our head. It was awkward so we made an excuse.
“Okay then, bye.” Allie smiled and we came outside. Asher followed us so did Nathan.
I rolled my eyes. I turned to glare at Nathan for staring at my little sister. She was innocent for his player ways so I had to warn him.
“What?” Nathan asked agitated.
“Why were you staring at my sister?”
Allie looked shocked when I said that. Nathan had a blank face as he looked at Allie.
“Please, save that for someone else and moreover I don’t go for ugly nerds.” With that saying he turned on his heels and went back inside. My hands clenched into fists. I was about to retort back but Allie placed her hand on my fist.
“Let’s go, it’s late.” She said softly but I knew his comment hurt her. I glared at Asher who looked shocked too.
“Look, he is….” He wanted to defend his brother but we just took off. Allie didn’t say a word while coming back and I didn’t push her either.
That night I heard those sobs again, the once which haunted me whenever Allie was stressed. It was her. Her nightmares came back and I was afraid that it would start again. It happened once or twice in month and it hurt both of us. She was weak and it killed me because I couldn’t do anything for her. I just sat beside her till she fell asleep again. I was afraid that these mean people would break her more than she already is.
