So, once you understand that Albus was a manipulator, it's almost impossible not to see him as the villain of Harry Potter.Here's my explanations and the order of everything and the facts: 

1. Dumbledore hears the prophecy, that the one with the power to vanquish the dark lord is approaching. 

2. Severus tells Voldemort about the prophecy.

3. Voldemort decides that the prophecy is about baby Harry.

4. Severus goes to Albus and begs him to help in protecting Lily. 

5. Albus asked Severus what he'll give him in return for protecting Lily and James. First of all, Albus should've protected them without getting anything in return, as the both of them were members of the Order! Anyway, SEVERUS AGREES TO ANYTHING! Like, he gave his life to serve Dumbledore and became a double agent...and died. He died because of him.

After that Dumbledore helps the potters to go into hiding. Well, then somebody (probably Dumbledore, judging by the fact that he was the one to do it for Grimmauld Place and suggested it to Lily and James) cast the Fidelius charm to protect the house with Peter as the secret keeper. 

Well, then Albus takes Jame's invisibility cloak. After that Dumbledore was nice enough to keep Severus out of jail while he let Sirius Black go to jail (he needed Severus; that's why)! After that Severus is literally beholded to Dumbledore for the rest of his life.

And Dumbledore makes Lupin the DADA teacher even though he knows the position is cursed (that's why he didn't give it to Severus; because he knew he needed him) and after that he raised Harry like a pig for slaughter.

What a nice man he is!
