1. HERMIONE BELONGS TO SLYTHERIN?
It has never been clear whether muggle-borns are allowed into Slytherin or not, but to be fair, they should be, as the Sorting Hat sorts people based on their traits and beliefs. However, I can't think of a single example of a muggle-born Slytherin, so I always assume that the Slytherin House doesn't accept muggle-borns, which also explains why Hermione didn't get into Slytherin.
Now, Hermione in Slytherin sounds absolutely absurd, right? Well, it's not! Here's why:
Hermione is desperate to prove herself and the way she does that is by being the smartest person in the room, and making sure everybody knew that; and that particular type of ambition where you want to not only be successful, but also for other people to see you be successful is a very Slytherin trait.
A lot of people also say that she should be Ravenclaw, but Hermione really doesn't value learning for the sake of learning; she values learning for the power and control it can give her. Almost every time we see her learning or researching something, it is to specifically help her or her friends. It's not very obvious, but I feel like Hermione also usually needs affirmations and compliments from other people, confirming and telling her 'you saved the day' and most of all 'you're the smartest witch of your age!', while true Ravenclaws never need to hear that. She seeks this appreciation from other people about her intellect and thought process that Ravenclaws don't.
Not to mention that Hermione has the most ruthless ambition out of any of the main characters. She physically attacked several people (including teachers) as a child and student to get what she wanted — she set Snape on fire, helped stun him in the Shrieking Shack, and sent Umbridge to the centaurs/Grawp, and she goes on to become the Ministress Of Magic.
So if we're getting rid of the idea that Slytherins are just evil people that hate muggle-borns, which is not true (I say that as a Slytherclaw myself), I think she would do better in Slytherin than Gryffindor or Ravenclaw.
KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS JUST AN OPINION; NOTHING CANON!
