45 His Wish
Two, thick lines.
I covered my mouth with my hand and stared down at the pregnancy test. What was going on? I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, then opened them again to check if this was really true. It was.
How was this possible? Michael was infertile. We had been trying to get pregnant for so many months, and it had not worked out.
But it all made sense, I had all the symptoms of a pregnant woman; I was sleepy, felt nauseous and threw up. There was no more doubt that there was a little baby growing inside of me.
I jumped up and showed the pregnancy test in the pocket of my jeans. I looked in the mirror and adjusted my hair, making sure I looked fine. I was gonna tell him immediately, this couldn't wait another second, it was long overdue.
My hands were shaking as I walked down the stairs, with one hand holding on to the rail, with the other covering my mouth. I peeked around the corner looking into the living room and saw Michael sitting on the couch, reading one of his prized history books.
I slowly walked up behind him, pressing my lips together because I was smiling so widely. I put my hands over his eyes from behind and he let out a gasp in surprise.
"Susan?" he asked and put his warm hands on top of mine.
"Yes it's me" I smiled. "I need to tell you something" I whispered in his ear.
"What?" He asked, now whispering also. I put down my hands and walked around the couch, sitting down next to him. Then I took his hand and put it on my belly.
"Our little baby is growing in here" I said and choked up, looking at him with watery eyes.
"What?" Michael gasped and looked at me in shock, his hand still on my stomach.
"It worked. I'm pregnant baby " I said and my eyes filled with tears as I pulled out the test to show him. " You're going to be a dad" I whispered and wrapped my arms around him.
"Oh my god" Michael brought out and slung his arms around my back. "I can't believe this" He started crying and held me tightly against his chest. " I prayed for this so many times" He said, nearly not able to speak as he wept into my neck. I hugged him back and stroked his broad back.
"I know baby...this is a miracle" I smiled as a tear rolled down my cheek. Never in my life had I been this happy, especially because Michael's biggest dream had just come true.
"Let me see you" He said and pulled away, holding my hands gently in his as he looked at me in awe. "You're the most beautiful mother, I can't believe we are going to raise a child together Susan" He closed his eyes and smiled.
"Can I touch it?" He asked and looked at my belly.
"Of course you can" I chuckled and he put his warm hand on my stomach. There was no bump yet, but just the thought that a little baby was growing inside that Michael and I had conceived made us both incredibly happy.
"I will love this child with all my heart, I promise you that" He whispered and looked at me, while his hand rested on my belly.
"I know you will." I smiled and kissed his lips. "Now we've got a lot of preparing to do. Remember all the baby furniture you picked out?"
Michael's face lit up even more and he smirked. "Right" He whispered as he remembered. "We can decorate his or her bedroom and make it perfect, but when the baby is still young it's gonna sleep with us, right?" He smiled.
"Of course, in our bed, in between us" I said and looked at my belly. "Already stealing my man" I laughed.
Michael broke out in giggles and shook his head. "I'm so happy Susan. You have no idea. My heart of pounding and...god" he smiled widely. "You know, I really thought I couldn't have my own kids. "
"I did too" I said. "The doctor must've made a mistake."
"No, doctors don't make that kind of mistakes" Michael shook his head and took my hand. "Of course he would tell me the worst case scenario has happened to me, he took the opportunity. People always do, people use me. Imagine how much money he could've made out of this, he knew how badly I wanted to be a father and..." he got choked up. "how much I'd do for it but...I guess...it came to me. Our baby came on it's own" He smiled through tears.
"Yes Michael. Our baby came right when we needed it. It's already saving us" I whispered and kissed him. "What will you do about the situation with the doctor? Will you sue him? Imagine what could've happened if I wouldn't have gotten pregnant right now! And even though we could've had a child together, we would've gotten a sperm donor just because the doctor lied to you!"
"There's not much I can do Susan" Michael said and shook his head. "I can sue him, but then this whole thing will get blown out of proportion and everybody will know about it soon enough. I just want to be in peace now, with you and our little angel" He whispered and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, looking down at my belly.
"But it's unjust!" I said and furrowed my brows.
"Susan, this is the world I live in. I have to choose between trying to make things right or letting them go and live in peace. "
"So we're letting him get away with it?"
"Yes" Michael said and looked at me. "Let's forget about the whole thing and concentrate on our beautiful future."
*****
Later that day I walked up the stair as I suddenly noticed that Michael was talking to himself in the bathroom. I came a little closer and listened through the closed door.
"Why is this....gosh, I can't leave it like that. It needs to be just right." He said and he sounded very concentrated.
"Michael?" I asked and slowly opened the door. There he was, standing in front of the mirror, looking at his face.
"Hey" he turned around. "do you wanna...go downstairs? We can make dinner?" He said and looked at me.
"Yeah, sure. But...what were you talking about?"
"Oh nothing just...it's nothing really." He said and walked towards me.
"Wait, it's not about your looks is it?" I asked a little concerned. "You are beautiful Michael, remember that" I said and held his hand. Michael sighed.
"How do you know it was about that?" He said and looked down.
"I feel it when you're insecure about something Michael. You nearly always wear makeup and...when you don't, you're not looking me in the eyes. But, I want you to know you're beautiful Michael, I swear to go you are" I said and looked at him. His black curls were in a ponytail and some strands hung down the side of his face.
Michael swallowed. "I just...I'm never happy with it. And now the baby...I don't want her to have an ugly father"
"Hey, stop right there" I said and held his arm. "Don't even say that. God, look at yourself." I made him turn around and look in the mirror. "Look at how handsome you are, your eyes your beautiful lips and damn those sexy curls " I giggled and looked at him from the side. "Do you even realize how many girls have your posters in their bedroom?"
Michael smiled a little at that and shook his head, he was clearly embarrassed.
"Are they all blind?" I laughed. "Am I blind?" I smirked and looked into his eyes. "You know how crazy I am for you, or do I need to show you?" I bit my lip and grabbed his red button up shirt by the color, opening a button, then sliding the fabric down his naked shoulders a little.
"Susan no" Michael chuckled and held my hips.
"Michael, how many girls faint at your concerts, approximately?" I chuckled. "50? 60? How many marriage proposals have you gotten from strangers, remember those stories you told me? Women are crazy for you, heck, even men are crazy for you. Lisa was crazy for you, she couldn't get enough of you."
"Shhh don't say that" Michael shook his head and smirked. I pushed him back a little as his back hit the wall. I opened another button of his shirt and revealed the smooth skin of his chest. Michael looked down at himself and sighed.
"I've got patches all over" He shook his head and furrowed his brows. I looked at his chest, seeing light brown spots on his skin where the vitiligo had not yet eaten away the pigment in the skin.
"Do you think our baby will be bothered by that?" I said and run my fingers down his chest. "Don't you think our baby will just be happy to lay right here, close to your heart and fall asleep in your arms at night, feeling the heartbeat of daddy?" I smiled.
Michael let out a sigh and smiled widely. "That's a beautiful thought" He whispered.
"Well, it's going to be reality soon." I smirked and kissed his chest. "I love you just the way you are Michael. You may not be perfect in the way YOU want to be perfect, but believe me, I wouldn't trade you in for anything in the world" I said as I buttoned up his shirt again.
"You are mine, the man I've grown to love with all my heart. I hope you can love yourself too. That's the best thing you can do for our baby. Don't feel like you got to change for the baby, just...oh let me show you how freaking much I love you"
I held his cheeks and kissed him wildly, feeling how his lips curled up in a smile and he put his hands on my back. I pressed my body against his as he leaned against the wall behind him, trying to catch his breath while I kissed him.
"S...Susan" He brought out and held my shoulders, looking at me. "I got it" he chuckled and I could see his cheeks were blushing. "You can't be so wild now, you've got a little child growing inside of you" He whispered and raised one eyebrow. We both laughed.
"I'm very aware of that Mr. Jackson" I joked. "Come, let's look at the furniture and clothes you picked out, we need to order those soon."
"Don't we have 9 months to wait until-"
"Shhh, there's nothing wrong with preparing early" I winked and pulled him with me. I needed to get his mind off of his insecurities. I was sure that, as soon as the baby was here, his mind would be completely taken off of these kinds of things. Until then, I would have to make sure he learned to accept himself. Because after all, he was all I had.
