34 Everything For Fame

An hour after Michael got the phone call, we were still sitting on the couch. There were no more tears left, nothing to be said and we just sat there, lost in our thoughts.

Michael's hands were clenched into fists to keep his fingers from trembling, but he didn't say a word. Suddenly the phone rang and I quickly went to pick it up.

"Michael, it's the doctor. He's still waiting" I sighted after I hung up. Michael just shook his head.

"Why...there's no use" He just said and got up. "I know already! I don't need this man to tell me that my life is officially ruined." He furrowed his brows and run his fingers through his hair.

"Come on, I want you to go. Talk about this with the doctor and maybe find a solution." I said and touched his back, but he winced and took a step away from me.

"There is no solution! Siedah got what she wanted. Now everybody will know her name, she'll get a bunch of money from me and I am alone with a baby and... and I broke your heart. Great" He covered his face with his hands.

"Michael, it breaks my heart just to see you like this. Please do me a favor and go there and talk to the doctor. He has dealt with other people that are in the same situation."

It took a long time until I had convinced Michael to go there, but I didn't even know myself why I wanted him to go. He was right, there was no use for this. But I couldn't accept that this was the truth until I heard it from the doctor. It was my last glimmer of hope.

We sat in the car, Michael had put his make up on again after the tears had made his whole face covered in black streaks, but you could tell that he was not well. His whole world just had collapsed; he was going to be a father of a girl that he didn't even know yet. A child that he had dreaded to be his. He was sure that everything he knew was taking an end now; the happy days we spent together, the beautiful evenings, then funny moments and sensual times. He held my hand tightly in the car.

"Susan...I know this is hard for you and you told me you couldn't live with me like this but...please, let me just keep you for a week, a week! I can't let go of you today, I love you" Tears rolled down his cheeks and he looked at me desperately.

"Yes baby...I'm here for you" I whispered and stroked his cheek. I was in no way able to leave him any time soon, even though this was not the future I had planned for us. Maybe I would have to move on from him in the future, but definitely not now. Once the child was fully settled in with him, maybe then I could leave him in his little family and go on to find my own. I took his hand and kissed it.

"So you're only kissing my hand now, huh?" Michael said and cried even harder, leaning his head against the window of the car. "Now it's starting...you're letting go of me."

"Oh Michael, come on that's stupid." I said and put my hands on his face. "I'm sorry that I just kissed your hand, come here." I leaned closer to him to kiss is face, but he turned away.

"Susan, I know where this is going. I know you can't believe this just happened, but I do. I went through so much shit in my life already, and it's reality! I am the damn father and Siedah is the damn mother! The kid is mine and you'll leave. I won't ever have kids with you, hell, nobody will want to be with me anymore. I'm this ugly beast that just gets used and thrown away, like trash, like... " He stopped and covered his face with his hands.

"Don't kiss me anymore, if you do it now, I'll miss it too much when you're gone." He whispered.

I didn't know what to say to that, I knew I couldn't calm him down right now. He needed time to think and recollect his thoughts. As we sat there silently I slowly began to realize that there really was no more hope. I had always pretended that Steve Lory would be the father, and now it was 100% not him. And with that, Michael was 100% the father.

We arrived at the doctor's office and entered through the back door into the room and sat in front of the doctor's desk. Michael's chair was not close to mine any more, like the last time we had been here. I felt that Michael was already trying to keep his distance from me. And it hurt. It hurt like hell. Finally, as a nurse came in with the results file and gave the papers to the doctor, I saw Michael holding his own hands.

I knew that in these kinds of moments, he needed someone to hold on to.

"Michael" I whispered and he looked at me, I saw the pain and the fear in his eyes. I pulled my chair a little closer to him and took his hand. If he wanted it or not, I needed to do this right now. And I knew he needed my support in that moment, whether or not we would be together in the future. He held my hand and the doctor began to speak.

"So, Mr. Jackson, I see you got your blood tested 2 weeks ago to check if you are the biological father of Miss Siedah Garret's daughter. The kid was born on March 28th and you did the test on the 30th, is that correct?"

"Yeah probably" Michael said and cleared his throat.

"Alright, I'll give you the results now, it that ok? I haven't looked at them yet."

"Yes, please just quickly now" Michael sighed and looked at me. He was scared as hell. The doctor opened the file and read. Then he looked up and began explaining.

"Alright Mr. Jackson. Your blood is not compatible with the DNA of Siedah Garrets daughter. With that, you are 100% not that father of her child."

My heart jumped and I inhaled sharply. I sat there a while and stared at Michael. He didn't move, like me. He couldn't believe it. Nobody spoke a word.

Then I suddenly began crying. The shock, the pain, the sadness, everything began to diminish and happiness filled my heart.

"Susan" Michael whispered and wrapped his arms around me. "God, baby, I am not the father" He laughed and cried at the same time. "I'm NOT" He pressed his head against my shoulder.

"Oh Michael..." I whispered and stroked his back. "Now we can be happy again, the happy times start baby" I smiled as he rocked me in his arms.

The doctor just sat there and studied the file for a moment. "Alright Mr. Jackson, I see here Mr. Lory isn't the father of the child either. There was most likely another man involved as well, who is the actual father of the child. I'm sure you'll hear about it in the press" He chuckled and closed the file. "Do you have any questions?"

"No, thank you so much" Michael said and got up. We shook hands with the doctor, both smiling from ear to ear. As we sat in the car again, Michael and I couldn't let go of each together. We were hugging and kissing each other the whole way home. The truth had come out, Siedah had used Michael to get attention in the media, or maybe even a child from a famous person, be it Michael or Steve Lory, it didn't matter to her.

But now, her plan had failed and the child was from an unknown man, who was not going to get her a record deal or any fame in the media. And we were the winners, because we had each other again. And this time, for good.
