1. In the first draft of the film, Thumper was named Bobo.

2. Some scenes of woodland creatures and the forest fire are unused footage from Pinocchio.

3. Disney animators spent a year studying and drawing deer and fawns to perfect the look of Bambi and his parents and friends.

4. In the original novel, Bambi and Faline are first cousins. Faline is the daughter of Aunt Ena, the sister of Bambi's mother. Walt Disney probably discarded this detail because a mating of first cousins would be deemed wrong for many reasons.

5. The animation was extremely tedious. Artists had to make sure that each spot on Bambi's back was replicated perfectly in every frame. The attention to detail meant that animators were able to complete less work on a daily basis than they had on previous movies.

6. Walt's own daughter protested the death of Bambi's mother.

7. There are fewer than 900 words in the whole film.

8. Two asteroids have been named after Bambi and Thumper.

9. The little boy who did the voice of Bambi grew up to become the youngest drill instructor ever in the Marines.

10. "Man is in the forest" had a double meaning. In the movie, the line is uttered to warn of approaching humans, but to Disney animators, it meant something else. The phrase would often be used when Walt was coming down the hallway, and anyone who was slacking needed to shape up immediately.
