Meeting at Star and Sea(NSR Deity AU oneshot)

It was a cold night, the season didn't matter too much, regardless the moon was bright and on a high arc in the sky. There were no clouds to block the twinkle of the millions of stars above.

The setting is a dark cliff face along a shore, with a black sand beach streaching at the base, waves lapping at the sand. The cliff was a shallow U shape and at the center base of this U, was a tall, while, quartz-like pillar. Its surface was milky a white, with some other colors mixed in in an almost iridescent way. It even seemed to glow slightly from the inside.

In the water itself, brightly colored coral seemed to ignore the fact it was night and appeared to glow as if it was still day.

The waves crashed against the sides of this pillar when the stars suddenly grew bright, as some seemed to fall from the sky as stardust. They fall towards the top of the stone spire before flashing a bright light taking the shape of a large man. At least he looked like a man at first. He didn't have a head, instead, a glass orb with the cosmos inside floated in place. His clothing were various shades of dark blue, and just like the sky and his head, stars and galaxies adorned it, as well as moving patters of the solar system.

He looked forward towards the sea and sighed, then down at the waves and coral below. Despite not having a face, he looked down thoughtfully and as if he was waiting for something to happen.

Soon enough, the sea suddenly became calmer, the corals brighter, and a large wave as tall as the spire rose out of the water. Like the rock the man was standing on, the water pillar glowed fron the inside with a colorful light showing the sihouettes of four figures inside. But as the wave crashes down right next to the star-enveloped man— not one drop of water landing on him— instead what was left stading aren't any of the figures in the wave, but a young woman who didn't stand as much as float in place. Where her ribcage would have ended, she instead had a long fish-like tail with white iridescent scales and fins as well as other bright pastel colors. On her head, her hair was the same platinum white as her tail, pearls floating around her head like a crown. In the dark, bioluminescent markings are also visible, making her look more other-worldly.

"Hello, Supernova, long time no see."
The woman— er— mermaid, being the term, doesn't even appear to look at the other figure as she speaks through her gentle smile. Her voice sounded young, like that of a teenager. Somehow that voice matches perfectly with her ethereal look.

The other, Supernova, speaks up. He didn't have a face but he clearly seemed to cringe at what the other has said.

"Oh cease with that langauge, we are far too great for such common tongue." His voice was more appropriate for his appearance; deep, soothing, yet powerful. His voice echoed from all directions, as if it were the stars in the sky speaking instead of him. "After all, we haven't met since-"

"Since the Light died." The other cuts him off like an adolescent cutting off their parent reminding them of something. "Yes I know, but that was a long time ago, and the humans have taken on a new style of speech I'd like to... get the hang of." She paused a bit at the last part to remember at that new phrase she learned from humans.

Nova, despite not having a face, seemed to a scoff with zero amusement, but ultimately decided not to comment on the statement.

"How typical of you, Sayu." He sighed. "By the way, why did you request that we meet here? This area is sacred to you is it not? I expect a good answer from a goddess as revered as you." The tone of his voice made it clear that he wasn't joking around. Such a meeting place must mean that this better be important, at least in his eyes.

"Oh, no reason really, I just wanted to chat a bit with you." The other, Sayu, simply stated with a smile, not at all phased by Supernova's confused sputtering.

"N-no reason?! You invite me to one of your sacred lands for nothing?!"

"Oh not nothing, did you not hear me? I simply wanted to talk."

Nova sighed heavily in irritation. He placed his fingers where the bridge of a nose would be and shook his head. "Sayu, truely you have swooped so low. As expected of a false goddes-"

Nova, once again, gets cut off by Sayu, but this time by an offended gasp. Its obvious that the goddess doesn't take well to others saying she's not real.

"Watch your mouth, glass head." Sayu's voice suddenly became harder. For a moment her expression changed for the first time during this meeting into a scowl, before reverting back into a soft smile. The other god just rolled his non-existent eyes at the act. He's seen this before and its getting tiresome.

"Fine, we shall make the most of our time here. I refuse to leave knowing my time has been wasted." Nova sighed as Sayu's face lit up. Gods she's hopeless. "So say, how are Yinu and her mother faring lately?"

"I'm surprised you don't know, you are the sky. You said it yourself, 'my skies are endless' and all that." Sayu does those air quotations with her fingers.

Nova cringes, though not as much as before.

"Yes yes I am aware however a god as important as I must attend to their own duties." Supernova emphasizes by placing a hand to his chest and gesturing with the other towards the sky. Sayu is simply amused by his never-ending ego and purses her lips before answering.

"Fair enough. Well the two have been... well enough lately. Of course their domain is still in a bit of a mess, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as before. It is understandable though, he was Natura's partner after all." Sayu's smile ever so slightly falters, and her voice enveloped in a sadness.

She wasn't too associated with the pair while the other still existed, choosing to spend most of her time in the depths, but she was the goddess of love, Sayu understood that pain.

Nova only caught a few of this behavior, but at large didn't notice as Sayu didn't show much of anything before she was back with that grin.

"Ah, I see. I wonder how much more time it will take before they manage to get a hold of themselves and their domains. Such a waste for two revered goddesses to fall apart at such small things." The god said with a finger to where his chin would be, as if he were in thought. "How about Neon? I wonder how he's been doing as of late."

Sayu seemed visibly surprised at this at turns her head towards the other god. "Now I'm really surprised, I thought you were close to him despite that ego of yours."

Nova appears to flinch at the statement, but brushes it off.

"Well I've been quite preoccupied during this past century. Humans and all their pesky prayers, they may keep us alive and relevant but that doesn't mean we have to like them."

Sayu only lightly laughs at the response. "Well then, I'd say I'm not too sure. He's been.. quiet lately, not totally silent though, so I think he's probably working on something quite important."

"I see, I have observed that he has done similar things in the past, always trying to satisfy those humans. That's one of the things I cannot seem to wrap my head around about him, or any of you for that matter." Nova once again held a finger to his chin, 'eyes' closed in thought.

Humans are to worship them unconditionally, are they not? So why does it appear that the others are always trying to impress those little things? Perhaps he himself should put in a little extra effort so his worship may spread further.

No. He has already done his work making the sky around this tiny ball of dirt. The rest may have created the world around humanity, but the dark sky he has created above shall always be the most spetacular thing humans have or will ever witness. They have no need for improvement.

Supernova was snapped out of his quick train of thought when Sayu asks him a question.

"Say, Nova, you seem like you have no idea what any of our ongoings have been." Sayu had a small smirk on her face,"A century is a bit of a while after all, are you sure you were just 'busy'?"

The other god paused before answering.

"Firstly, do not call me 'Nova'. Second, did you not hear what I said? Maintaining the balances of the sky have been taking all my time these past few years, especially after the previous events. You've been barely able to keep the depths together yourself, yet you find the time to mingle with the others due to how close your territories are. As the sky, I am separate from all down here on this dirt pile."

Sayu could have cut the other off at any moment of his ramble as she knows this is just one of Supernova's pride-driven and defensive rants, but chooses not to since as stated before, she finds some amusement in them.

"Good point." She simply says. The goddess has a feeling that the other may have something to do with Neon, but decides to leave it at that.

Nova was slightly surprised at the fact Sayu didn't retort in some way, but it was Sayu, she was up to something. "Since you brought up the state of my domain, how about yours?" He asks flatly.

In truth, that accusation he pointed at the goddess was pure assumption. Her domain of Akusuka was like a base of operation, almost every god has one. Her's hidden in the far, far depths of the sea that not even Supernova can see it from the sky. He finds that ironic considering her domain glows so brightly that it probably rivals the sun.

"Ah, you're right, everything has become quite harder to manage ever since the Light went out." Sayu wasn't afraid to admit it, those few decades after it happened was pandemonium. "Of course, I was grieving too, so it was partially my fault. Akusuka didn't shine as brightly for some time just as the rest of the world did. Currently, we are doing well, the tremors have ceased and the ocean is shining once again." She says as she gestures towards the coral below. The bright whites, yellows, blues, and pinks, softly and visibly glowed even in the dark water.

Even with his pride and ego, Nova internally admits that he was happy for Sayu. In fact, he felt happy for everyone. He'll probably never admit it but he knows that everyone, even him, went through hell after the light dimmed. Everyone was grieving but at tge same time scrambling to put the world back on its axis. It was good to know that after only a century, their work payed off.

"Do you remember when the sun used to radiate a glow so glorious that it rivaled even my stars? When the sun's rays were as gold as.. well, gold itself." Supernova finally spoke up, letting a sort of mlencholy do the talking.

Sayu was taken aback by the sudden subject and question. "Why?"

"The sun is about to rise from the horizon." DJ points to the east to their right. Sure enough, the stars seemed dimmer there and there was but a sliver of orange peeking from the sea.

Sayu caught the underlying message and slowly replied. "Yes.. yes I do. It's only been decades and yet it feels likes its been forever but also that it was just yesterday, do you get what I mean?" Sayu's voice seem to change slightly, like someone else's emotions were talking.

A pang of nostalgia suddenly hit the two as the white orb showed itself from the horizon. The sky and sea were painted with vibrant oranges and yellows and golden-white rays light up the surroundings and their faces. As the light got caught by the white pillar they were standing on, it relected around on the inside before the pillar shone a rainbow of colors, and the sea seemed to reflect those colors. They could look at the blinding sphere of light without burning their eyes— at least the one who does have eyes. As they watched the sun creep an inch further up the sky, they both knew how much more spetacular it was in the past.

Soon Sayu clears her throat to gain Supernova's attention.

"So it seems I must leave now, my duties as goddess must be attended to now." She says as a wave similar to the one that brought her here lifted itself from the water's surface in front of her. "I do wish I had some more time to recollect on our time apart."

Nova only nods at this. "Yes, I admit, I too wish we ahd more time, however I too have to come back to my domain." It felt strange to let his ego drop a bit.

Sayu smiled before entering the wave and effortlessly swam down it, tail barely even moving to propel her forward. Nova looked ahead as he sees her swim through the coral and into the deep sea, her white glow the last thing he sees before diving into the depths.

Supernova sighs, however this one was much lighter than the irritated or tired ones he gave Sayu, and he dissipates into that bright stardust and travels west towards his domain.

Omg, I'm done

Howm'st've??-

Christ I'm exhausted

This took days to write

And yet it still gets like a 6/10 from me

Ahhhhhh--

But seriously, this is only like the 2nd proper fic I have properly written without giving up on it or just deleting it

So sorry it feels wrong, to me its literally just dialog exposition about this AU and thats it

I shall give a huge HUGE thanks to my friend stormcause cuz omg her criticism and tips on separating paragraphs REALLY helped

Also they single-handedly stopped me from deleting/comepletely rewriting a chunk of the progress

Omg I frikin love you Storm-

And another thanks for my fan and friend MotherlyDino- since they were the first person I gushed my ideas for this AU to

Speaking of my AU, yes, this is another deity AU, this time No Straight Road because... ahh.. well this one npc calls Sayu a goddess so I was like "lol I should make another deity AU"

As for what exactly Deity Sayu and DJ Subatomic Supernova looks like... I'm not sure either

I imagine for Sayu its a mix between her 1st phase form and 3rd phase form(minus the twirly tail) from her boss fight plus some stuff from her some of her concept art then crank down the cuteness a bit and replace it with... idk an ethereal beauty?

For DJ SS... I'm not too sure, maybe just a fancier, flowier version of his normal outfit. Maybe a robe?

Idk, eh-have somes pics of them instead, Imma leave it to your imagination-

Sayu's 1st phase(aka original) form
Cute as fuck, I know

3rd phase form
She lookin like a hippie Imo-

Best full body pic I could get-

Early sketches for mermaid Sayu
You see those god-like fins??!-
(But seriously, she really looks more like a goddess in some of these sketches-)

DJ SS during the 3rd phase of his boss fight

Concept art of DJ SS which is practically the same as the final product except hE ACTUALLY COVERS THOSE HAIRY LEGS OF HIS-

Yeah there you go

Actually... I did make some crude and bad 'concept art' for this fic

Yes its incomplete and yes I hate it too

uGH THAT  S H A D I N G -

ITS HORRENDOUS OMG MY EYES--

But yeah, I'm done with my minor fandom-preacher moment lol

One more important note is that this AU is in a sort of beta version, so ideas that appear here may be changed or altered in the final draft(if there will be one, considering my reputation with AUs lol)

Like for example, I'm pretty sure I made these two act more human than they actually would
Or maybe its not a mistake or anything, after all, I did take alot of inspiration from Rick Riordan's version of the Greek gods from Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus

I mean the concept for this AU is kinda inspired too, which I'll elaborate on sooner or later

So... yeah

I really hope you were satisfied, if not, at the very least give me some critique and tips on how I can improve

I am aware that I have a few issues on writing, and I'm hoping to soon iron them out

Also I really wish I could post this on Ao3. I want to get this concept out there, cuz I love the idea of Deity AUs and rn, the No Straight Roads tag on Ao3 is booming(rn, the part that still loves the Boboiboy Deity AU fic 'The Old Gods' I found on Ao3 is the one talking), but sadly, I don't have an Ao3 account and I'm not tech savy enough to have much access to my email account

But thats mostly irrelevant

So yeah, hope you enjoyed, I need the confidence to not hate this in just 3 days-

K bai-
