Chapter 7
I stared in horror at the ashes at my feet. Alex had been murdered in front of my own eyes.
I saw my best friend die.
Hot and salty tears streamed down my face. I picked up the stake. It was the one from my dream. I got up and began to pace. Fresh tears began to form in my eyes. My sadness quickly turned into anger. How dare that man kill my friend!
"It she's a vampire. She's basically a miscarriage." The man said. I turned toward his direction. This man makes me sick!
"You're messed up. You do realized that you just killed my best friend?" I snarled. He sighed. "Child, vampires are blood hungry leaches. They deserve to die." He explained.
I was just about to say something else when I felt two hands grab me. "We'll be leaving now." Ashlyn said in monotone. I mentally slapped her. If that was even possible.
Mrs. Higginbothom stood near the pile of ashes. She was examining the stake. Creases began to appear on her forehead. Beats of sweat began to drip it's way down her face. Her hands began to tremble. She dropped the stake and cautiously made her way toward us. She motioned to the door and we followed.
Outside was freezing. As if one cue, snow began to fall. The street was now covered with a pure white blanket. It was a beautiful sight.
"That was a death wood stake. Only three exist in the world, " Mrs. Higginbothom explained. "The death wood tree grows underground in the Earth's core. Many have tried to retrieve this, all have failed, except one. Her name was Juliet Carvno. She wasn't human. She was a lava wolf. Lava Wolfs are resistant to heat, completely. They take on the body of a human, but can turn into wolfs."
"So how'd she get it?" I asked. "The miners built a tunnel. Once they died they were very close to the core. Juliet dug into the core. She eventually made three death oak stakes. Before she cloud make the fourth one, a hell demon killed her. His name was Eric Dawner.
As I listened to her, I noticed something within the trees. I quickly shushed them and began to make my way toward the forest. The rustling stopped.
