Do you believe?
Celeste believed in magic. Not the fairies and unicorns kind, but the real life, everyday kind.
Like the moment you snuggle into your bed and find that perfect position to drift off to sleep in. Or your first sip of coffee on a lazy Saturday morning.
Hocus Pocus!
She felt it when she slipped into a warm bath after a hard workout and when she jumped into pool on a sweltering day.
Abracadabra!
There were also those special magical moments that linger in your memory for the rest of your life.
Like the first time you lift your feet from the ground and keep your balance while pedaling a two-wheeler. It felt like flying.
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
Or the moment you wake up on Christmas and rush to see the gifts under the tree. Even when you no longer believe in Santa, it's still wonderful to share presents with your family that morning.
Open Sesame!
A first kiss can be awkward, but your first really good kiss, where everything clicks, is a feeling you always cherish. You may even chase it.
Bippity-boppity-boo!
In Celeste's memory though, the height of magic was the moment she knew she loved Emmett.
They were only dating for a couple months when he helped her and her roommate move into their apartment. Most of their friends had bailed on them, too hungover to help.
But Emmett showed up, as promised.
He drove the giant rental truck that intimidated her. When Celeste was in tears over everyone else cancelling, he called his brother to help.
After they carried every piece of furniture up the four flights of stairs, he refused to let her give his brother money for pizza and beer. He did instead.
She showered and then suggested he should as well. When they squeezed together on her twin bed, she confessed her feelings and they made love that night for the first time.
Shazam!
He bought her a queen-sized bed that Christmas.
In spring when her roommate was upset after a break-up, he watched chick flicks with them and assured her friend that she'd find somebody better.
That summer, Emmett was with when her mother called with the news that her grandfather had died. He held her close while she sobbed.
He made her forget about her fear of commitment.
Presto Chango!
But now, this walk home from dinner on a crisp and beautiful fall night was truly the most spectacular of them all.
Celeste looked down at Emmett. He was on one knee, his hand outstretched, palm up with a velvet box in its center.
Her legs shook. His voice was as steady as his hand.
"Celeste, you've enchanted me since the first moment we met. I don't know the spell you have over me, but I never want it to break. Please bind us together forever and make me the happiest man alive. Will you marry me?"
She answered with a kiss more powerful than any words she knew.
