Chapter 1-How It All Started

                              (Irene's Pov.)
"Everybody, wake up!!! Get your butts out of bed. We need to train already and we all overslept!"

I started opening all their doors, starting with Xandria, the youngest of us six. She is only fourteen, but the hardest to wake up in the morning, no matter how late. I tried to sneak in and grab her before she moved, but she had already heard me and teleported to some other place in the house. *Sigh*

"I'll get her later. "

I went into Katya's room and tapped her. Out of all of them, she's probably the most compliant, aside from the few times she freezes me when especially grumpy. Luckily today was a good day for her. Next mission - Alexander, the zombie.

I started to make as much noise as possible.

"WAKE UP!!!"

No movement.

*Slap*

A groan.

I pushed him off the bed, and finally received a positive result.

"I was trying to sleep! Jeez. "

He may be older than me by a year, but I am in charge of him. :) I open Karina's room next, but it seems empty. Knowing better, I pause and listen. There's a rustling noise near the bed. I smirk and jump on her invisible form.

"Got ya!"

I hear a pop down the hall and follow it towards a couch with a lump on it. Xandria thought she could escape me? Oh, she thought wrong. I grab her arm to prevent any escape.

"Ireeeene!" Xandria whined.

"You are coming with me to wake up your brother."

The only two things that she wakes up for are food and annoying her brother, Tamar, my favorite though quite a handful.

We tiptoed into his room up to his bed. I grabbed his arms and Xan grabbed his legs, where we carried him, struggling all the way, to the kitchen.

"You're eating breakfast whether you like it or not," I commanded.

Everyone had come down already to eat.

"Any news on the London case?" Katya asked.

"No", I said, "but Chief Lee said we need to train even harder these days as many other mutants have been cropping up even faster than before. Too many are brainwashed by Birdbrain. His forces are expanding too fast. You all know that Chief is counting on our team and experience the most. Are you all up to it?"

"Yes!" They all answer with determination.

  ****************
Now that you are all highly confused, I will explain everything. I am Irene, only eighteen years old and leader of S.P.A.D.E.S., my special team who work for Chief Lee in South Korea. Our whole operation is built on finding others with special abilities and training them before the Vulture does.

You may have heard how the virus was released, so after that a powerful mutant rose up, trying to build his own army of mutants. We have no idea who he or she is or what motive they have to build an army, only that he feeds off of death to gain strength, so he has gained too much power over the years.

Chief Lee, the most badass woman to walk the earth, then started her own organization to counter this cause. You may be wondering at this point why a group of teenagers would be the main task force and not some older, more mature people.

1) The virus seems to have mostly targeted
        younger people.
   2) The younger a mutant is, the easier it is for
        them to adapt.
   3) The Vulture wants older mutants, since he
        thinks children are weak.

I was ten when I became a mutant, two years after the virus was released. My family agreed  to send me to train under Chief Lee along with many other mutants. My hair turned purple and I could only change color at first, but over time I could control my hair to do basically anything. That was the worst year ever. Everyone else could control the elements, turn into animals, teleport, fly or do any other amazing power, but I was a failure in their eyes.

Chief Lee saw potential in me though, not necessarily in super abilities, but in intuition and intelligence, so she encouraged me through tough times. By the time I had turned eleven, I was determined to show everyone what I could do and to become a leader of my own team. Karina, Alexander, Katya, Tamar and Xandria came to school in Korea over the years scared and confused, but we became inseparable. We were determined to make the same team even though we all shouldn't graduate at the same time.

When I turned sixteen, Chief Lee announced that I was now ready for the field as a team leader. I asked if the others could graduate with me and become my team even though we weren't the usual ten people for a complete team. I was refused my request, but I pestered her until she relented at the end of the school year. I had persuaded her that even though they weren't done with training, they would still learn under me as I had already lead them through most of school and they had taught me much in return. We worked better together. She was worried for us at first, since Xandria was only almost twelve at the time, but we worked hard to keep our team.

I haven't been able to visit family in the U.S. much especially now that I'm in the field, but all of us keep in contact with our families. Tamar, Xandria, Karina and I are from different parts of the U.S., but Alexander is from Brazil, and Katya is from Ukraine. Karina, the oldest, is twenty-one. Alexander is nineteen. Katya and I are eighteen. Tamar is seventeen and his sister, Xandria, is fourteen. We are what make up S.P.A.D.E.S..

[End Note]
Thank you for reading. Don't worry. The story will become more interesting in the next two chapters. I haven't introduced BTS yet, since there was a lot of background to cover. Anyways, thank you and I will get back soon.
