A few weeks later
Monica felt her body wake up, and she felt the warm sun rays from the window falling on her face. Her eyes fluttered open before looking over to the opposite side of the bed, which was empty.
"He had an early start today." She said to herself as she sat up and stretched a little.
She stepped out of bed and grabbed her Thai silk Japanese nightgown hanging on the wall, next to Freddie's kimono, and put it on. Then she headed downstairs and into the kitchen
There was a small jug of wild flowers on the table waiting for her. And propped up against the jug was a small piece of folded paper. She picked it up and unwrapped it:
My darling,
I am so sorry I couldn't be here for breakfast. We had to make an early start today in the studio, but before I left I found these in the back garden. Reminded me of you, my lovely.
See you later, and good luck today xx
"Oh Fred..." she thought to herself as she smiled. She folded it back up for later and went to fill the kettle.
She was glad for his words of support, for she had a job interview for waitressing today and of course she was nervous about it. She had to support herself financially now in her new home. It was a nice, quaint restaurant closer to the city centre but not far away with a rather nice manager; Freddie had taken her there a week before one evening and noticed a sign on the front window advertising applications. Her friend Paula on the other hand, decided to break it off with Derek and go back home to Belfast; unfortunately it had not gone on anywhere the next morning, and she had to go back for universities anyway. Monica was grateful that Freddie was different. He was so far caring, empathetic, devoted to her as much as she was to him, and happy now that he was so in love. He helped her settle in and move and unpack her boxes, and took her to the studio one day to meet the boys, which luckily she enjoyed and she got on well with all of them. At home her mum and dad wished her well, knowing that there was a course in London that she applied for as well, so if anything went wrong she'd still have a sense of security and a reason to stay.
After she fed the cats (whom she got on very well with, as her family had one named Missy at home) and had breakfast she went upstairs to brush her hair and get dressed in something simple, presentable and sophisticated. She chose her black A line dress and green shirt to go underneath, and wore her brown shoes with tights. She brushed her hair and and grabbed her camel coat before heading out the door, feeling incredibly nervous...
..................................................................................................................
"Well, Monica," the manager Mrs Christina Bradley adjusted the papers in her hand as the two sat across from one another at a table in the closed restaurant. "I think you're fine. You've got the job."
"Oh thank you," Monica smiled in relief and shook her hand. "When do I start?"
"Well, I'm going on holiday with my family. I expect you here Thursday of next week at four pm sharp, alright?"
"Alright." They both stood up. "I will see you then. Have a good holiday."
"Thank you," Mrs Bradley smiled. "Looking foreword to working with you."
When she had gotten outside she went to the nearest telephone box and dialled the number to the studio she kept in her purse.
"Hello Wessex Studios?" The secretary answered.
"Hello, is that Linda?" She asked. "It's Monica, Freddie's girlfriend."
"Oh hello Monica, do you want to speak with him or pass on a message?"
"If he's not busy at the moment, please yes." She said, hoping she'd be able to hear the sound of Freddie's voice.
"They're having a break at the moment fortunately. I'll hand him over." Linda replied.
"Oh thank you very much." She felt herself smile, and after a moment's silence Freddie's voice popped up "hello?"
"Hi Freddie it's me. I got it!"
"You did?" She could hear him smile through the tone of his voice. "Wonderful, darling! When do you start?"
"Next Thursday at four o clock."
"Good. That'll keep you busy for the next while. We should celebrate."
"Oh yes?"
"I'm taking you out tonight," he said. "I know a place nearby. I'll be back at the flat this afternoon around two, alright? We're finishing early today"
"Alright" she smiled. "Love you."
"Love you too, baby. Oh! And guess what happened today?"
"What?" She giggled.
"I beat up a punk." He said proudly.
"Oh my god what?" She gasped, hand over her mouth.
"That's right. Sid Vicious. He was being annoying, and I could smell the bloody alcohol on him."
"What did you do?!"
"I grabbed him by the jacket and pushed him out the door, that's what."
And in the background she heard Roger huskily shout, "Oh shut up Fred it was only a little shove!" To which she heard Freddie scoff and theatrically scream, "SHUDDUP!"
She giggled, "well that's not really beating him up, that's just acting like a security guard-"
"Oh stop it, you!" He sighed teasingly. "I'll see you later."
"Okay, bye"
Then they hung up.
"Oh, I love him." she thought to herself as she stepped out of the telephone box and back out onto the busy streets.
Later on...
"Is this the place?" Monica asked as they both walked hand in hand down the busy Kensington high street.
"Yes. I think you'll like it." He answered.
They entered a quaint Indian restaurant in a nice old refurbished building. Luckily tonight it wasn't too busy, and the occasional indoor house plant, photos from the British colonial period in India hanging up on the wall and Arabic mirror added an exotic flare to the minimal, dimly lit atmosphere.
"Oh Freddie you were right" she looked around as he took her coat off. "It is beautiful."
He giggled, "thought so."
"Your early bird menus..." a waiter handed them out as they settled down at a table.
"Thank you..." they both said as the opened them and flicked through.
"A lot of this reminds me of what my mum makes" he murmured a moment later.
"Oh yes?" She looked up.
He nodded, "of course, hers are the best..."
She smiled and nodded before looking back down at the menu, but it was obvious Freddie was trying to say more.
"I should take you to meet them some time soon." He suddenly said. "I know that they'd think you're a very lovely girl."
She blushed a little, "I'd love that."
He took her hand across the table. "Good. It would mean a lot to them, and me."
She smiled, "I'm glad."
He stroked her hand with his thumb before pulling it up to his lips and kissing it, "we should probably decide what to eat."
She giggled and scanned the menu again, and moments later a waiter came over, "would you like to order?"
Monica lifted her head, "oh yes, can I please have the Thai green curry?"
The waiter nodded and turned to Freddie after scribbling it down, "and you sir?"
"I'll try the samosas, please," he handed the menu back.
"Alright, what about drinks?" The waiter tucked them under the arm.
"Do you have Pinot Grigio?" He asked.
"Certainly, I'll get you a bucket." The waiter nodded before heading off.
"Thank you so much for this." Monica squeezed his hand a little across the table.
"Not at all," he winked and grabbed a napkin. "You deserve it, dear."
She giggled, "do you always spoil your loved ones this much?"
"Very much so," he smiled as the waiter returned and poured out two glasses. "Even when I had hardly anything to live on."
"Oh?" She asked before she nodded the waiter in acknowledgment.
"Thank you- uhm yes." He took his glass. "Things weren't very easy before Bohemian Rhapsody. But I suppose I always behaved like I was rich."
She sipped "You do remind me of some sort of Great Gatsby or a Q-"
"A Queen?" He giggled. "You got that one right."
The meal went very well, and after they left the restaurant as the sun set and the clouds in the sky cleared the two took a walk through Kensington gardens right up through to Hyde Park, chatting along the way hand in hand.
"You slapped him?" Her hand flew up to her mouth as she tried to contain her giggles.
Freddie nodded and blushed, "well kick my back. I suppose I could've managed my annoyance better. It's okay to giggle, dear."
"I hope you didn't slap him again on the night of the actual production."
"Nah... my drama teacher issued me a warning... my aunt and uncle came to see me though which was nice." He kicked some dirt stones on the ground as they walked.
"Did you get to see them often?" She looked over.
He shook his head, "only during the summer holidays... they got me to play piano at holiday resorts as a part time job... my mum actually came to visit one of them once to watch me play."
"What about your family back home?"
"Maybe once every few years... I always got them something when I went back. Anyway, it's your turn..."
She smiled. The past half hour was spent talking about school, and it seemed that they both had lots to tell. Now they were trying to think of embarrassing stories.
"Alright, I know you're going to tease me about this for years to come, but please try and be mature about it." She begged.
"Oh yes?" He smirked.
She sighed, "in first year during a physics lesson, I farted."
He giggled like a small child, "oh darling is that the best you can do?"
She bit her lip, thinking hard, "Well, okay, I have a better one."
"Ohh okay." He smirked,
"During my a levels, my single sex school had amalgamated with a boy's school in another part of Belfast nearby, and boys in my year group had to move over to my campus."
"Go on..." he shuffled closer.
"Okay, so, a lot of the toilets we were often used to using had changed into boys toilets."
He giggled again, "oh this sounds good..."
"And one morning I was tired and I needed to go to the toilet but I couldn't concentrate because I had bad sleep. So I accidentally followed a boy who happened to be friends with two of my crushes-"
"Two of them?" Freddie gasped.
"Yea but one of them looked like you actually but he turned out to be an arsehole. Anyway-"
"Oh yes?" He smirked.
"Yep, but you're much better." She said, causing him to blush.
"That's why I love you. Carry on."
She rolled her eyes playfully, "anyway, I followed this friend of the crush into the now-turned boys toilets. And I didn't realise until I noticed that the seats were all up and a scared looking junior walked out of a cubicle."
Freddie burst out with cackles, "oh dear! That's-Really that's unfortunate."
"Then for the rest of the year this group of popular boys nicknamed me The Girl in The Toilet."
He laughed, "oh fuck them all, but love that was brilliant."
"Easier said that done." She blushed. "My dad tried to make me feel better and stuff but yeah..."
"Don't worry, if something embarrassing happens when you're with me I will never let it down" he took her hand.
"Oh for fu-" she sighed, but he stopped her.
He giggled, "You have my trust, and I have yours right?"
She smiled, "Of course."
"Why don't we sit down?" He walked towards a bench nearby.
"Alright." She said as he lead her over and they both sat down.
He pulled her close, "I'm so glad we could do this."
She laid a head on his shoulder, "Me too, Freddie."
He looked down at her and kissed her head, "So what do you think of London so far?"
"I really love it," she smiled. "There's always something to do every day."
"And that's exactly why I love it here." He turned to her.
She giggled when she felt him looking at her.
"What is it?" She turned her head and looked up at him, but his head quickly turned away.
The process repeated. Every time she felt his stare she lifted her head to look up at him and he'd quickly turn his head away again and again with a smirk growing on his lips every time.
"What is it?" She asked again, but he just giggled.
She shook her head and sighed, then decided to turn her head to him. But before she knew it he quickly leaned in and met her lips, giggling when they broke.
"You're like a small child sometimes" she held his hand.
He blushed, "oh I know... some people find it hard to deal with."
"I like it. In fact, that's what I love about you." She gave his hand a squeeze.
"Oh you," he pulled her close again. "I'm so glad I found you." And her heart fluttered at his words,
They looked around the dark, lamplit park.
"We should head back," he stood up gently and helped her up. "I think it'll be too far a walk. I'll catch us a taxi."
She nodded and held his hand as they headed back to the sidewalk, and he signalled a taxi that happened to be driving past.
......................................................................................................
"I feel like a movie, don't you?" He asked as he closed the door behind them and took his coat off.
"Yes... I'll go switch it on." Monica headed into the lounge.
She bent down to the set and Vertigo was starting.
"You like Hitchcock?" She called from the room.
"Yeah leave it on..." he replied from the kitchen as he put teabags in. "Which one is it?"
"Vertigo" she answered as she strolled in and joined him.
"Wonderful... haven't seen that one in years..." he put the hot water into the cups. "I can manage this myself, darling. You go and sit down."
"Alright" she nodded, and he smiled and pecked her lips.
A few minutes later when she had settled on the sofa Freddie came in with cups of tea.
"Oh yes," She smiled a little and turned to him, and he sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around her as she lay her head on his shoulder.
She sipped as the cats curled up at their feet on the ground, "thank you so much."
He smiled and kissed her head. "Anything for you."
The two sat there and watched the film, enthralled and suspenseful, in the warmth of each other's company, the room lit by a single antique lamp beside the sofa. Then they got to the moment near the end when Scotty realised that the actress Judy was in fact Madeline, and was pretending to be her throughout the film, and believed that he had finally brought her back from the dead. At this point the two perked up a little.
As James Stewart looked across the hotel room bathed in green light, and Madeline stood at the door as the soundtrack swelled with airy, romantic strings, the pair couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu as they watched an important and powerful piece if cinematic history.
"Reminds me of the moment I laid eyes on you across the room in the club." Freddie whispered in Monica's ear before planting a kiss on her jaw.
"Same... you stood out, even made time slow down." Monica giggled slightly and looked up at him as Kim Novak slowly made her way over to Scotty in a ghostly manner on screen.
Then, the moment Scotty and Madeline kissed and embraced, Monica and Freddie instinctively looked over at one another, their hearts beating a little faster and breathing getting a little heavier. He leaned in and sensually kissed her lips, caressing her cheek as she rubbed his chest.
"You looked so beautiful that night..." he choked. "Sitting there alone, your blue eyes caught in the lights."
"The way your gaze made me feel as soon as our eyes met..." she whispered back. "I can't use words to describe how the sight of you made me feel. My head was whizzing..."
He kissed her again, a bit more passionately, and Monica felt so distracted from the film she wrapped her arms around him and laid down, and he got on her.
"Monica..." he rubbed her cheek and kissed her again.
Her heart raced as his lips traced down her mouth, her jaw, her neck. She reached over and pulled his shirt off as he tugged her flares and panties down before she ran her hands up and down his warm skin on his back and chest.
"Damn you turn me on" He murmured as he nibbled her bottom lip, unbuckling his trousers.
"I want more..." she let out as she looked up at him and wrapped her legs around his waist.
"I'll give you more..." He caressed her thigh and kissed her as he positioned himself.
He let a moan out under his breath as he slowly pushed into her, and she gasped.
"Oh Freddie" she breathed, and slowly he started to thrust.
"Mmm... yes baby" he growled deeply.
Monica had nothing to say to that. She moaned and held onto him as he gradually increased his speed.
"Yes!! Ugh yes!!" She cried out louder as the pleasure hit her, wave after wave.
"Monica aah..." he kissed her lips hungrily.
"Y-Yes?" She whimpered.
"I can't resist you..." he groaned as he thrusted.
"I don't wanna let go..." she breathed as she orgasmed.
"Good." He kissed her neck. "I won't let you... I need you..."
"Oh baby I'm here..." she moaned as she clawed his back in pleasure. "I'm here."
She felt him give a few final thrusts as he nibbled her neck, moaning loudly, before she felt him violently shake as he released.
"Fuck..." he groaned one more time before he fell on her, her chest heaving breathlessly.
She draped her arms around his limp body and kissed his head as he waited until he caught his breath, the sound of her rapid heartbeat in his ear.
"Monica..." he pulled out gently and lifted himself up a little to look at her. "I love you."
"I love you too Freddie." She said as she held his face in her hands, and they kissed.
He sat up and pulled his boxers back up, and she grabbed her panties off the floor as he stood up and went to switch the television off, even though the film wasn't over yet.
"Bed now?" He asked as he picked his shirt and trousers up off the sofa and folding them onto the arm rest.
She nodded, and he stretched his arms out towards her as she let him pick her up. He carried her up the stairs and into the bedroom before laying her down gently on the mattress, the duvet peeled back.
"Sorry we didn't get to see the rest of it, baby" he sat down on the bed .
"Don't worry about it," she pulled her shirt off and lay down. "I had a nice evening."
"I hope so." He smiled as he pulled the duvet up over them.
"It's true." She snuggled up against his bare chest, and he kissed her head as he held her close.
"Sweet dreams..." he trailed off tiredly a moment later, and in response she held onto him tighter as she fell into a deep sleep.
