Must have been the wind

(alright this one pretty much has a story so i really hope y'all don't mind)

I was asleep on my bed, but then I heard glass shatter in the apartment above mine.

I rubbed my eyes and thought it was probably a part of my dream, but then I heard a voice of a girl and it sounded like she'd been crying.

I want to go to back to sleep but I was too worried about the girl who live's above me.

I jumped out of bed and walked out and took the elevator to the second floor.

I walked down the hall and stand in front of where my door would be if I was on the first floor.

I take a deep breath and knock on her door.

She opens up she has a fake smile plastered on her face, but I ask

"May I ask about the noise I've been hearing?" She flinches and her smile falters but she says,

"I think your ears are playing tricks on you" That's when I notice her sweater is zipped up to her chin. She continues

"Thanks for caring sir that is nice of you, but I have to go back in." We stand there awkwardly and she says

"Wish I could tell you about the noise, but I didn't hear a thing" I could tell she was lying and then she smiled and said

"It must've been the wind"

I take the elevator and trudge to my home.

I lay back down, but not on my bed but on the floor, the cold concrete pressed against my back.

But I just couldn't shake the feeling of worry.

I didn't want to intrude because I didn't have all the facts.

But I couldn't bear the thought of leaving her.

So I jumped up from the floor and took the elevator to the second floor once more.

I took a deep breath and knocked upon her door once more.

The girl opened up her door once more, and I once again ask about the things I've been hearing, and not looking at my eyes she said

"I think your ears are playing tricks on you" I notice her sweater is still zipped up to her chin,

"Thanks for caring sir that's nice of you, but I have to go back in. Wish I could tell you about the noise, but I didn't hear a thing." She smiled and said "It must've been the wind" She closed her door.

I then have an idea.

I rush downstairs and get my old boombox, and face it up at my roof.

I put on the song lean on me

Just so the girl upstairs knows she can lean on me

I hope when she hears the lyrics she knows that she'll be, ok.

When she hears the words I know exactly what i'll say

I hear a knock on my door, I open up and it's the girl.

And i say

"Promise i'm not playing tricks on you, your always welcome to come in. You could stay here for an hour or two if you ever need a friend" I go in a hug her

"We can talk about the noise when your ready, until then..." I look at her and say

"i'll say it must've been the wind"

We grin and on that day, I became friends with the girl upstairs.
