Liar, Liar, House on Fire

Evelyn slammed her door. "Shut up!" she shouted. "Rarity's dead, and it's my fault!"

Viola sighed. "No, it's not! We all have our secrets, Evie."

Evie grabbed a knife. "I swear. If you ever call my that again, I will shove this up your a-"

"Calm down!" Vi smiled. "Look, I know this is really hard for you, but we're going to be okay. Since you're Eviw, you're protecting the other girls."

"The other girls?"

Her sister nodded.

Evie glared at her. "They're my friends, and I'm not just going to leave them. They need me now. I can't keep on this façade forever." She pulled her wig off. "If you care about them, you'll help me find A. That's the only thing that will help."

Vi closed her eyes. "Fine. I'll help you."

Sunny sighed. "Okay."

Indigo tried to hug her, but Sunny pulled away. "You're girlfriend is dead. You can cry if you want to. You don't have to stay strong for us."

"Can you leave? I just need space right now."

Indigo walked back to the door. "I'm here for you. You can always come to me."

Sunny waited until Indigo was gone, then sank to the floor. She let her tears flow freely. Her face was cupped in her hand.

River pulled out Mera's ear phone. "What were you doing that day?"

Mera blinked. "What day?"

"When Henna was killed. You weren't with any of us. So where did you go? Did you want to find Evie? Rarity already did, and now she's in a body bag." River pulled out a vial of blood. "What is this? And tell my the truth."

Mera bit her lip. "Are you sure you're ready for the truth? It will really hurt you." She waited. "I'll tell you. That blood is real. But it's Sour Sweet's. She asked me to keep it safe. She drew it herself because someone wanted it." She lifted her face to the ceiling. "I know a lot about Henna. And this is where the truth takes a bad turn. Do you really want to hear this?"

River nodded. "I need to know."

For a minute, it was completely silent. Mera finally spoke. "Okay. I killed Henna."

Starlight was typing. She put her hair up in a ponytail. I wonder if my muffins are done baking.

I need A's IP address. It only took her a minute to get into A's computer. She clicked on the email folder. Messages from A filled the inbox. She searched A's Facebook and Twitter. Nothing.

She leaned back. Then she saw something. A's bank account registration form? She opened the file. It had A's address. If I can get in her bank account, maybe I can find out where the texts are coming from.

But before she could do anything else, her oven exploded. She jumped on the floor. Her house was alive with flames.

Starlight pressed against the wall. Fear flickered in her eyes. The fire was getting closer to her. It exploded again, and everything was engulfed by the fire.

Glass slashed Starlight's face. Blood was pooling on the floor. And she was fighting to breathe.

She covered her mouth. Come on, fight it! Her vision was clouding. You can do it. She breathed in smoke, and started coughing. Just stop; give up. Starlight broke into tears. Stop fighting. She let herself fall.

I'm going to die.

"Where is she?" Fluttershy asked.

Sonata fell into her arms. "She's in the ER." She sighed. "I called the others. They're coming."

A doctor called them up. "Starlight Glimmer has first degree burns, a broken leg, a shattered rib, and permanent lung damage. Ultimately, there's no way she could live."

Fluttershy looked down. "Is she conscious?"

"Kind of. She's in and out," the doctor said. "Do you want to see her before-"

Sonata let out a sob.

The doctor led them to the room.

Starlight was laying on a hospital bed. Her skin was black and red, and her hair was smoky gray. "You're here." Her voice was thick and raspy.

Fluttershy pressed her lips together. "I'm so sorry this happened. If we hadn't asked you to look for A, you would be fine right now."

"I wanted to do it."

Sonata gently kissed her hand. "You shouldn't talk. We'll be here with you until it's all over. We won't leave you."

Starlight smiled. "I love you." She sighed. After that, her breathing never picked up again.

No. She's dead. Why, Celestia?! Why?! Sonata bit her lip.

Mera was crying. "I saw her standing there. The only thing I remembered was her almost killing us. And I wanted her dead. So I grabbed my nail file, and I stabbed her back. Then I picked up a brick and threw it at her head. She fell, and I kicked her around the room. Then I wiped her blood all over her face and left."

River glared at her. "Why would you do that? I don't care if she hated us. It was only because-" Her phone went off. Mera waited. River grabbed her jacket. "We have to go. Starlight's dead."

When everyone was at the hospital, a new A text came through.

Roses are red,

Dead people turn blue.

Starlight's in a grave,

And soon you will be, too.
