So many friends around me are losing sight

Of all the things they have, of all that's theirs in life.

They're melancholy, sad, and angry at the past.

They try to make themselves happy with things that just won't last.

Burdened, I wonder what I can do, what can possibly be my part?

How can I do nothing and quench the murmurings of my heart?

If I do nothing, is hope gone and all lost?

What price is too big? Can there be too great a cost?

What am I willing to give up, to count as a loss?

Then my questions are simply answered by the cross.

So I pray to be a light, a candle bright in darkness.

May God shine through in all I do, so their night is no longer star-less.
