9. Elusive Sunday

Saturday had been a fun day with Jimin, but it had effectively left her tired out again. As Sunday rolled around, it did so with complete and utter silence. Unlike Saturday, there was no early morning knock at her door. There wasn't even a late morning knock. As Lia got up around noon to make her growling stomach some lunch, she realized that this new person wasn't going to show up of his own free will.

"Fine. I'll bring him a peace offering then..." mumbled Lia as she opened the fridge. The cold air from inside rushed out at her as she rummaged through her leftovers. She really needed to go grocery shopping soon.

She found some leftover slices of pizza wedged in the back of the fridge, taking it out and heating it up. She then tucked two bottles of water under her arm and wandered out into the hallway. She moved across the hall, soon rapping her toes on their apartment door. Silence greeted her, so she tried again. This time she kicked at it with her foot since her hands were full, and she wanted the knock to be louder. Just when Lia was convinced they were gone, she heard rustling on the other side of the door.

"Hello?"

"Hi," said Lia as she cleared her throat. "My name is Lia. I brought over pizza. Didn't know if you wanted to talk."

"I'm not up for company," came the voice. "I'm busy today."

"Oh...well...I already heated it up. Can't you take time for one slice?"

"No."

She hadn't been expecting this, frowning a bit. She tried to juggle things in her arms so that she could put a bottle of water and a plate of pizza on the ground outside the apartment.

"Well, if you change your mind, I'll leave it here."

She didn't hear any response from the other side of the door but assumed they were listening. Walking back into her apartment across the way, she kicked her door shut with her heel.

"They are a ray of sunshine..." mumbled Lia to herself.

She took her heated up slice of leftover pizza and her water into the living room. Placing it down on the coffee table, she sat cross legged on the floor and turned on her television. She began to watch whatever game show she had found on the television. Lia was about halfway through the program when she heard a knock at her door. Getting up off the floor, she walked over to open the door. She was just able to see the black dressed back of the man who had knocked as he walked back across the hall to the apartment across the way, shutting the door behind him. Looking down at her feet, she saw the plate with the pizza slice on it that she had left for him. There was only one bite taken out of the slice of pizza; a note delicately placed near it. Bending down to pick it up, she opened it up and read the delicate writing inside.

'Tastes like cardboard'

"Well beggars can't be choosers!" she shouted across the hall just as the elderly lady next door to the recluse came out, narrowing her eyes at her.

"Miss, it's a Sunday. We shouldn't be screaming on a Sunday."

"Sorry," said Lia as she quickly grabbed up the plate with the pizza slice, shutting the door.

As soon as she was inside, Lia immediately threw the slice of pizza away and went back to watching the game show that was still on. After that, she spent a majority of her day organizing her apartment some. There were still some boxes that she had yet to unpack even though she had been in this apartment for a few months. Lia found a box cutter and began to cut open some boxes. She forgot some of the stuff she had hidden away inside. As she began to pull things out and put them in their respective places, she heard a knock at her door. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a pizza delivery man standing there.

"I didn't order any pizza," said Lia as the man held a pizza box her way.

"Well someone ordered a pizza for you. It's already paid for. I'd enjoy it if I were you. Have a great day miss."

Lia stared at the delivery man as he went downstairs and outside before casting her eyes at the closed door across the way. Marching across the hall she kicked at the door with her foot again.

"Why are you banging on the door?" came a voice from the other side.

"Did you order pizza for me?"

"Yes. I thought you needed to see what fresh pizza tasted like."

"You're a turd! A turkey! A turdkey!"

"Um...excuse me?"

"You heard me," said Lia with an eventual sigh. "But thank you for the food. I won't say no to free food, but I can't eat a whole pizza by myself. Would you like some non-cardboard tasting pizza?"

"Fine, but I...I'm staying in here."

"Why? Do you have cooties?" teased Lia.

"I don't like strangers," said the voice.

As Lia was about to respond again, she saw the elderly lady come out of the apartment next door. She was bundled in a coat; a small hat perched on top of her head.

"Sweetie, are you harassing the neighbor?"

Lia could hear chuckling from the man on the other side of the door as she put a small pout on her face.

"No I'm not. I'm offering him food and company."

"Well...have fun with that dear. I'm going out."

Lia didn't understand why the woman had to announce that she was leaving, but watched as she did just that. That meant that the entire apartment was vacant for now aside from the two of them since the creep's apartment was still empty. Now it was just Lia, this man, and the cats.

Oh. Now she understood. Her cheeks flushed red as the man on the other side of the door continued to laugh.

"You think this is so funny. This is your doing turdkey," said Lia.

She set the pizza box on the ground outside his apartment before going back to hers to grab some paper plates and water bottles. Lia was soon back across the hall with the materials, sitting on the floor.

"Open your door at least a crack. I will give you some pizza and a water bottle since apparently my water from before was adequate enough for your sophisticated taste buds."

"Water is water," said the man as Lia rolled her eyes, opening the pizza box and digging out a few slices. She put two on the plate and put the water bottle beside it.

"Alright. Your meal is served."

She heard the lock on the door turn before a pair of hands shot out to grab the food before the door was immediately shut and locked again.

"Why don't you want to show your face to me?" asked Lia.

"As I told you, I don't like strangers."

Lia grabbed a slice of pizza out of the box for herself as she moved to lean up against the wall by the apartment door so she could hear him better.

"What's your name?"

"Yoongi," he said. "And yours is Lia you said, right?"

"Yes. Have you read the notes?"

"I always read the notes they leave behind," said Yoongi, "But just knowing your name  or hearing about you doesn't mean you're familiar. I still don't know you."

"Well - hate to break it to you - but you're not going to know me if you continue to keep yourself holed up like this."

"You just need to give me time," said Yoongi. "I have my reasons for not liking strangers."

Lia was sure that he did and took another bite of the slice of pizza in her hand without saying anything more for a moment. The two of them eventually continued to make small talk as they ate their pizza, soon parting ways for the evening after it was done.

"Maybe next time we meet I can actually see your face?" asked Lia hopefully as she began to pick up.

"Maybe. I'm not making any promises."

"I'm not asking you to," said Lia. "It was nice to meet you even if there was a door between us. Have a good night, Yoongi."

"You too."

Lia moved to go back to her apartment after with the leftover pizza, tucking it away into the fridge. She continued to putter about with her cleaning until she felt herself getting sleepy. As she fell to sleep that night, she kept thinking about Yoongi and what she could do to get him to trust her.
